Windows 10 Calculator Not Working is a common issue. It is a very unusual occurrence for a straightforward app like Calculator when it doesn’t work. You would be surprised to check that Calculator not working on Windows 10 is a widespread issue.

#1 – Reinstall Calculator

The way to reinstall Calculator to solve Windows 10 Calculator not working is not a conventional method.

The Calculator doesn’t have a direct uninstallation option. Carry out process in Windows PowerShell. First, uninstall the Calculator, install it on the PC. Follow the given steps:

  • Step 1: Open Start menu, search for PowerShell by typing “Powershell“. Right-click on the Windows PowerShell option from the search result, tap Run as Administrator from the right-click menu.
  • Step 2: Type the following command in PowerShell and tap Enter:
    • Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}
  • Running the command will re-register Windows Calculator on the PC.may take a few minutes, wait until the process Itis concluded. Once done, check if you have the Calculator app back on your PC. When found, run the Calculator and see if it’s working.

#2 – Reset Calculator

The foremost thing to get the Windows 10 Calculator Not Working issue on PC is to reset the Calculator app. It is a straightforward process to carry out and barely takes any time. The method has been found to solve the problem for many of the complaining users. Follow the steps to reset the Calculator app:

  • Step 1: Tap the Start button and open the Start menu. From the Start menu, tap on the Settings option.
  • Step 2: The Settings window will open. Find and tap on the Apps option.
  • Step 3: Check the list of Windows 10 apps installed on PC. Find the Calculator option to tap on it. Check for Advanced options to open it.

  • Tap on Get.
  • Tap Install.

#4 – Create New User Account to solve Calculator Not Working in Windows 10

While using the Calculator app for the first time and not working in Windows 10, there could be a User Access Control restriction on PC. Create an identical User ID as yours by following these steps:

  • Step 1: Tap on the Start button. In the Start search bar, type adds user, then click on the Add, edit, or remove other people option from the search result.
  • Step 2: Under the Family & other people section, tap on the Add someone else to PC option.
  • Step 3: Click on the I don’t have this person’s sign-in information choice.
  • Step 4: Choose Add a user without a Microsoft account option.
  • Step 5: Add a new username, password, and a password hint. Add all this information and tap on the Next button.
  • Step 6: After account creation, log in with the new version. Clicking on button in the Start menu, as shown in the image below, then selecting the unique user ID.

After logging in with new ID, try to access the Calculator and see if you can still open Calculator in Windows 10. Try to run the scans given below.

#5 – Running SFC Scan To Fix Windows 10 Calculator Not Working

Suppose none of the above methods could run the Calculator with a possibility that there is an error with the System Files on computer. Running an SFC scan can scan system files for a faulty file, once found, it will solve the mistakes. Follow steps to run an SFC scan:

  • Step 1: Click Windows + X keys to open Win+X menu. Select the Command Prompt (Admin) option for running command Prompt in Admin mode. A dialogue box will allow Windows 10 to open Command Prompt; tap on Yes.
  • Step 2: Type the sfc /scannow command and tap Enter to run it. SFC scan runs till it finishes. The overall scan may take some minutes to complete, so be patient and not interrupt the scan. Once the scan is full restart the PC and runs the Calculator app, still unable, try running the next scan.

#6 – Run DISM Scan

It may happen that the SFC scan was unable to fix corrupt files. This is done in case DISM or Deployment Image & Servicing Management Scan comes into the picture. It restores the corrupt files that were responsible for an incomplete SFC scan. To run a DISM scan, follow Step 1 from the SFC as mentioned above Scan method.

After that, type the command in Command Prompt and press Enter key:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Let the scan run without interruption until it is complete when the scan is finished and rerun the SFC scan. Let it complete.
Restart PC and try to access the Calculator.

#7 – Update Windows 10

One of the reasons you would be unable to open Calculator in Windows 10 is that Windows is not up to date. Update Windows to check Calculator is working. Complete the update to follow the steps:

  • Step 1: Open the Start menu to look for the Settings option, and tap o open the Settings window.
  • Step 2: Update and Security option in the Settings window. Select it.
  • Step 3: Go to the Windows Update section. Under the Windows Update section, press to start a a search if some new Windows update is available.

Follow the update wizard to fulfil the Windows 10 update.
Once the Windows update is finished, PC will restart. Check with Calculator if it is working now.

#8 – End RuntimeBroker.exe Process

An application may not start only because the already running background processes are not letting it to. You can try to end the process named RuntimeBroker.exe and then try to open the Calculator app. To complete this process, follow the steps given below:

  • Step 1: Open Task Manager on PC. Tap Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys on the keyboard simultaneously.
  • Step 2: In the Task Manager, get a list of tasks running on your PC. From the list, please find out the RuntimeBroker process and make a right-click on it. From the right-click menu, tap on the End process option.

This will finish the RuntimeBroker.exe process on PC. Now, try to open the Calculator again. If the Calculator reset could not solve the issue, quickly check for an update of the Calculator app is available. If yes, update to fix the problem. To update the Calculator app, follow the steps:

  • Step 1: Tap open the Start menu by clicking on the Start button or tapping the Windows key on your keyboard. In the Start menu, tap on the Store tile to open Microsoft App Store.
  • Step 2: In the Store, get the search bar to find the Windows Calculator app page thru typing “Calculator“. Open app page.

If the Calculator app on PC is not up to date, get an Update button. Click on it and recheck if still unable to open Calculator in Windows 10.
In case unable to find the Update option or problem was not solved, try Method #3.
