3. My Rec Tec Pellet Grill Won’t Light

If you start your pellet grill and it doesn’t light, there are 3 main reasons:

  • There are no pellets in the firepot to burn
  • The heating element is defective/damaged
  • A malfunctioning induction fan

Contact Rec Tec Customer Support online or by phone for help troubleshooting the problem.

4. My Grill Won’t Power On

There are 3 main reasons your Rec Tec Pellet Grill isn’t powering on:

  1. The fuse on the controller is blown
  2. GFCI breaker on the outlet has been tripped
  3. You are using a damaged power cord, outlet, or extension cord

If the controller fuse is blown, it can be replaced. You can reset the GFCI breaker by simply pressing the ‘Reset’ button on the outlet.

A defective heating element or auger motor could also be the cause of your GFCI outlet repeatedly tripping. Contact Rec Tec online to order 250V replacement fuses or a new controller if the problem persists.

5. Why Isn’t My Rec Tec Pellet Grill Getting Hot Enough?

Getting your pellet grill hot enough is a common problem for novices and beginners. Your Rec Tec Grill is designed to reach temperatures in excess of 400F (max 500F).  Generally, smoking meat should be done in the 200 – 225F temperature range. Your Rec Tec Grill however is built for smoking and grilling, which is why it has such a high temperature range.

There are several reasons your grill may not be heating up enough:

  • Poor airflow inside the grill
  • Weak induction fan
  • Excessive ash build up
  • Poor quality pellets
  • Pellets with too much moisture

Wet pellets or pellets with too much moisture take longer to burn and produce more steam than smoke. Poor air flow inside the grill can be fixed by regular cleaning to remove obstructions from vents and the induction fan.
