Whatsapp recently launched IFCN Chatbot developed by Poynter Institute’s International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) to keep an eye on fake rumors and misleading information related to the COVID-19. Facebook-owned WhatsApp messaging app took a great step to stop the fake news from being circulated on its platform.
By using the IFCN Chatbot, whatsapp users will be able to judge whether the piece of the content they received, is rated true or false by the professional fact-checkers. During thsi time of pandemic, tones of news and information are being forwarded each day and user dont really know which one is true and which one is false.
To stop the spread of COVID-19 fake and misleading information WhatsApp has collaborated with Poynter Institute’s International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) to allow users to check the authenticity of the news. A new social media chatbot makes it easy to scour the Institute’s database of COVID-19 hoaxes. According to the recent reports, there are more than 4000 hoaxes related to COVID-19 were recorded by more than 80 fact-checking organizations from 74 countries.

Ben supple public policy manager and global election lead at WhatsApp said: “We are very pleased to now be able to support IFCN’s essential fact-checking work with the launch of this important service for WhatsApp users.”
IFCN said “The system is capable of identifying the user’s country via the mobile country code and then sharing the nearest fact-checking organizations. Anyone can submit information for review directly to local fact-checkers or visit their website to learn more about misinformation circulating in the region.”
How to use IFCN Whatsapp Chatbot:-

- Whatsapp users need to save number +1 (727) 2912606 as a contact and send “hi” to activate the IFCN Chatbot.
- Or they can click here and say “HI” to begin with International Fact-Checking Networkbot.
- Once the activation is done, the Whatsapp chatbot will appear in your WhatsApp and claims to offer service 24×7 in order to bust myths and check facts about COVID-19.
