The fort was once home to Princess Ratnavati and a Tantrik fell in love with her. When he tried using magic to win over her, princess poisoned him to death. Before dying the Tantrik cursed everyone in the village to die and for it to remain roofless. It is said within one night, everyone in the fort died and ever since the fort remains roofless. In fact, several houses in the villages around are roofless and roof collapse soon after being built. Several people agree to have experienced abnormal activities even during sunlight.
2. Dumas Beach, Surat
Dumas Beach is one of the spookiest places in Gujarat and the stories will send chills down your spine. The black sand beach was once the cremation ground for Hindu’s and hence is possessed by several haunting spirits that never left the region.
If tales are to be believed the white sand of beach turned into the black from the ash of burnt bodies. People claim to have heard weird eerie sounds, people laughing and whispering after midnight when there was no human presence there. 3. Delhi Cantonment
Delhi Cantonment is said to be haunted by many. A lot of people agree to have seen a lady dressed in white asking for a lift. If you don’t stop or deny, she starts running with the speed of the car.
Also, a lot of people who ask her the way can’t reach home that night and keep circling the city.
4. Tunnel Number 33
Tunnel number 33 is one of the creepiest places in India. The tunnel falls on Kalka- Shimla rail path and is the longest rail tunnel of the country.
The train tunnel is said to be home to the ghost of a British Engineer Captain Barog who was supposed to build this tunnel. He was fired from the job after he failed to complete it and under depression committed suicide under tunnel itself. He shot himself to death.
It is believed ever since his spirit haunts people and unlike others is said to be a friendly spirit. A lot of travellers as well as guards and train drivers report having experienced paranormal activities here.
Kuldhara village lies in close proximity to Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. The village is deserted, creepy and horrifying. Since the 1800s this village hasn’t seen any human activity apart from enthusiastic tourist and eager archaeologist.
The story of this village goes back to a few centuries. According to the tale the village Kuldhara was once inhabited by Paliwal Brahimans. The residents were known to be super-wealthy and ruled a major part of Rajasthan. A minister named Salim Singh fell in love with the daughter of Sarpanch of the village. He threatened the villagers to let him marry the girl else he’ll impose high taxes on the villagers.
The entire clan left the village overnight and moved elsewhere to save the daughter and themselves. They cursed the village while leaving for it to not have any human activity in future. The village is haunted by many spirits who were left behind.
6. Savoy Hotel
Savoy Hotel in Mussoorie is haunted by the ghost of Lady Garnet Orme who was found dead in one of the rooms under suspicious conditions.
The investigations proved the presence of poison in her body and confirmed a murder. Ever since the employees, as well as the customers at the hotel, have felt her presence. Many claims to have heard weird noises from the room where she was killed. The ghost haunts people at night who stay in rooms around. The hotel even inspired famous writer Agatha Christie to write the bestseller “The Mysterious Affair at Styles”.
7. Ramoji Film City
Ramoji film city is often called universal studios of India. Based in Hyderabad, the hotels in Ramoji are haunted. The film city is built on a graveyard for Nizams and many have experienced several paranormal activities. The food kept in the rooms gets scattered without any human presence in them. The mirrors are often found stained with some weird messages written in a language that resembles Urdu.
The lights kept on top for shoots often fall injuring several light men. The ghost troubles women the most. Right from tearing their clothes to knock on bathroom doors. The month of September and October are horrifying for the residents. On no-moon days during these months between 6 PM- 9.30 PM is when the mass suicide happens. The bird’s suicide happens only on a stretch of 1 mile by 600 ft land and is one of the creepiest things we have come across.
While many have tried to explain this with their scientific as well as non-scientific theories but nothing really is convincing enough to explain this. This has been the centre of curiosity for many over years and still continues to be so.
9. Agrasen Ki Baoli
Do you know how it feels to be stalked? Being constantly watched and followed, wherever you go. It is even more terrifying when the entity following you is not living and unknown. The Agrasen ki Baoli is an age-old stepwell located on Hailey Road in New Delhi.
It is very popular for its antiquated architecture, but unfortunately has no records of who built it and when. According to the sources, people who have visited this Agrasen ki Baoli claim that something invisible followed them and the faster they ran the quicker it chased. Presently this site is being taken care of by the ASI since it has historical significance.
10. Fernhill Hotel
Do you remember the popular horror movie Raaz? Watching this film was a spine-tingling experience for its spectators. But something more horrifying happened behind the scenes. The cast and crew of this movie were victims of some paranormal activities.
According to a social media platform, Actress Bipasha Basu said, “Once Sarojji and her troupe checked in late at night and were kept awake by someone rearranging the furniture in the room above. The dancers who had an early morning shoot tried calling reception but the phone was dead.
Desperate for sleep, some went down to complain, only to have the receptionist escort them outside and point upwards to show that there was no floor above.” Many more unusual events happened to post this incident and since then the hotel has been closed down.
11. Sanjay Gandhi National Park
Sanjay Gandhi National Park, one of the most visited parks is amongst the haunted places in India. ‘Mamma told me, don’t be talking to strangers, because strangers are danger’. These lyrics from a very famous dance number are genuinely applicable at Sanjay Gandhi National Park.
The wilderness at this park is engulfed with something really creepy. Visitors claim that they have come across the spirit of a lady dressed in white who asks for a lift. 12. Mukesh Mills
Mukesh Mills is one of the most famous haunted places in India. Due to a disastrous fire at the mill, in the year 1980, it was shut down. Since then it has been deserted. This place came to limelight when the film industry started using it for shooting horror movies. But the cast and crew of these movies started witnessing paranormal activities.
Even today several actors say no to shooting at this mill. One of the most told tales is when one of the actresses who was at the mills shooting for a movie warned the crew members to leave the place immediately in a manly voice. 13. Dow Will

This small township is famous for some of the best boarding schools in West Bengal. The Dow Hill Boarding School for Girls is at the centre of supernatural activity by all accounts.

Both Doice Vas and Vera Vas lived very happily, but unfortunately in 2001, Doice Vas was mercilessly stabbed to death in her bedroom. 16. Khairatabad Science College
Khairatabad Science College in Hyderabad disintegrated to ruins but the dead bodies used in the biology lab were not put to rest. 19. Malcha Mahal
The mysterious occurrences at Malcha Mahal in New Delhi make it famous among the most haunted places in India. This Mahal is located amidst the wood in close proximity of the Buddha Garden.

There is signboard that displays a warning related to the hound dogs and a trespasser being gunned down. 20. Writer’s Building
The writers’ building was an age-old building from the British era. It was built for the writers who worked for the East India Company. Unfortunately, it was destroyed during a natural disaster. Then the government rebuilt a new writer’s building on the same premises. It is believed that this building is ghostly.
According to the stories, the soul of Late Captain Simpson who worked with the British East India Company dwells in this building ever since being murdered by three revolutionaries. Residents claim that they have heard footsteps and voices post-sunset.
