A film about five university students who set out to take revenge on a corrupted government responsible for the death of their friend will give you goosebumps for sure.

What could quickly be passed off as a niche film became one of the biggest box-office successes of that year. One of those patriotic Indian movies, which is also a thriller and, most all, based on a real story. Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal delivered their career-best performances in this one, which is the perfect Independence Day watch.

4. Lagaan

The first ever patriotic Indian film to create a buzz at the Oscars, Lagaan is about everything India loves- cricket and Bollywood. Showing the story of how cricket became a sport in India, Lagaan is still a favorite sports film in Bollywood.

5. Swades

The story is about Mohan, a NASA scientist who comes to India and decides to stay back for the development of his childhood village will always feel patriotism and love for the country. From the times of good Shah Rukh Khan movies, this one’s directed by Ashutosh Gowariker.

6. Lakshya

Lakshya is one of the patriotic Indian movies that will be remembered for many reasons. Farhan Akhtar’s sterling direction, Hrithik Roshan’s splendid dance moves, but most of all, the Kargil War and how a brat turned into a soldier fighting for the country at the border.

7. Mangal Pandey: The Rising

A patriotic Indian film in the truest sense of the word, this film chronicles the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 and the person behind it, Mangal Pandey. It was India’s first revolt against British rule and is an iconic incident in the history of India’s independence.

8. Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl

The story is about one of the first Indian female air-force pilots in combat in the Kargil War; Gunjan Saxena is an inspiration to many young girls and women. This patriotic Indian movie of today tells the story of a young woman achieving her lifelong dream of becoming a pilot.

This patriotic Indian film is about a businessman who saves his countrymen stranded in Kuwait when Saddam Hussein-led Iraq invaded Kuwait. Unfortunately, this invasion led to the Gulf War. This film is based on the real-life story of a Kuwait-based Malayali businessman Mathunny Mathews.

A Neeraj Pandey-directed movie at its finest, this is the story about an ordinary man who takes matters into his hand because he is fed up with the system and its corruption. Even though the film is a work of fiction, its script is partly inspired by the 11 July 2006 Mumbai train bombings.

One of the earliest films that gave us musical genius is called AR Rahman. Directed by Mani Ratnam, this Tamil film is about a simple girl from a village in Tamil Nadu. He desperately tries to find her husband after militants kidnap him during a secret undercover mission in Jammu and Kashmir.

4. Good Girls (2018-2021)

Imagine three suburban mothers pulling off a heist and making Breaking Bad-like money. What follows is a roller-coaster of events as things spiral out of hand for these women. This thriller-comedy series stars Christina Hendricks as Beth Boland, Mae Whitman as Annie Marks (Beth’s sister), and Retta as Ruby Hill, their friend.

5. Anne With an E (2017-2019)

Based on Lucy Maud Montgomery’s 1908 storybook, Anne of Green Gables, this Netflix series, set in the early 19th century, shows the life and journey of Anne Shirley-Cuthbert, an orphan girl who starts to stay with an unmarried brother-sister Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert.

6. Raising Dion (2019-2022)

Raising a 7-year-old kid has never been as tricky and challenging as it is for single mother, Nicole Warren. And as she deals with the untimely death of her husband (Michael B Jordan), Nicole learns about her son Dion’s (Ja’Siah Young) superhuman powers, which makes things challenging for her.

7. On My Block (2018-2021)

This coming-of-age show highlights the adventures of Monse Finnie (Sierra Capri), Cesar Diaz (Diego Tinoco), Ruby Martinez (Jason Genao), and Jamal Turner (Brett Gray), who are growing teenagers of color. It depicts their bond right from the first year of high school. However, their strong friendship is tested when they begin thinking about their future and what’s in store.

8. Easy (2016-2019)

Easy shows the lives of several individuals who are living in Chicago, trying to find a grip on modern living, relationships, technology, sex, and general knowledge. This hidden gem is an anthology show with perfectly scripted standalone episodes that do not require you to watch in sequence.

9. Dirty Money (2018-)

The Netflix description perfectly summarizes what to expect in this two-season series. It says, “From showing payday loans to cars that cheat emissions tests, this investigative show exposes brazen acts of corporate greed and corruption.” Crimes like tax evasion and insurance scams of billions of dollars make it a must-watch.

10. Tuca & Bertie (2019-2022)

This animated series by Lisa Hanawalt may remind you a bit of Bojack Horseman. This show tells the story of two daring and fearless bird best friends — Tuca (voiced by Tiffany Haddish) and Bertie (voiced by Ali Wong), who are in their thirties and explore female sexuality.

11. The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell (2018)

Christine McConnell is a fantastic baker with a dark secret lurking below what the eyes see. Her delectable recipes give rise to some delicious fluffy bread, cookies, and other chocolate confectionery items, but there is something different and haunting about them. This show lets you tuck into some bread skulls and clawed whoopie pies freshly baked from her oven.

3. Eames: The Architect and the Painter (2011)

Another highly recommended film every architect should add to their watchlist is this. The film shows the life and works of Charles, and Ray Eames, considered the era’s two of the most impressive American designers.
The duo was famous for their influence on modernism and creative, unconventional work that bought in new trends and designs for furniture and interior design.

4. Ex Machina (2014)

The suspenseful plot goes around a young programmer named Caleb Smith, who won a competition to holiday at his CEO Nathan Bateman’s mountain retreat. However, there is more to this solitary CEO with his holiday prize than is shown. Caleb has to participate in a groundbreaking experiment in synthetic intelligence and find how human-like Nathan’s robot named Ava is.

5. The Infinite Happiness (2015)

The Infinite Happiness shows the works of Danish architect Bjarke Ingels. He is the person behind Copenhagen’s interesting ‘8’ housing development, and the movie focuses on the lives and experiences of its residents. Instead of speaking to the architect himself, the camera brings out the happy everyday stories of these residents who share anecdotes of birthdays, playing outdoors, and stories of Halloween and family gatherings.

6. The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)

The drama-comedy is about a fictional country called Zubrowka. Gustave H is the concierge at this famous European hotel where Zero Moustafa, a lobby boy, is his trusted companion. A mysterious murder, theft, and finding of a priceless Renaissance painting make it a delightful film. The impressive visual of the hotel building, its traditional European furniture, and color schemes enhance the character of the building.

7. The Architect (2016)

Another splendid light-hearted film that every architect should watch. Sure to resonate with architecture students, the main character is an outstanding young architect named Miles Moss, hired by a married couple to design their dream house. However, things go reverse as Miles is shown to be a very self-centered and arrogant architect who is utterly obsessed with his work.

8. Midnight in Paris (2011)

When a successful screenwriter, Gil, struggles to overcome writer’s block, he strolls at midnight in Paris and falls in love with this splendid architecture and beauty of the most romantic city. During his night walk, Gil goes back in time where he meets Ernest Hemingway, Zelda and Scott Fitzgerald, and Josephine Baker. While the story is not based on architecture, it is one of the finest Woody Allen movies every architect or movie buff should watch at least once.

9. Blade Runner (1982)

The director focuses on a futuristic world that is neither fantasy ridden nor a different place to live. In the movie, Los Angeles of 2019 is a dark city full of cyborgs named Replicants, created by human beings for entertainment. The dystopian film shows the horrors of how these Replicants are out and about hunting for shelter. In such a scenario, Rick Deckard is an LAPD blade runner tasked to hunt these cyborgs.

10. The Belly of an Architect (1987)

With architecture as its central theme, the movie revolves around the life of American architect Stourley Kracklite who arrives in Rome with his wife Louisa Kracklite to host an exhibition in honor of the 18th-century French neo-classical architect Étienne-Louis Boullée. The importance of the spherical shapes that dominate the frame and how the film gets its unusual name.

Scooby Doo is a cartoon show all about adventure. Scooby-Doo has five characters, Brainiac Velma, Jock Fred, Fashionista Daphne, Hippie Shaggy, and Shaggy’s talking dog, Scooby-Doo. They get into their green van and hit the road to solve various mysterious phenomena.

2. Popeye The Sailor Man

The coolest part is that I started eating spinaches after watching Popeye have them. Popeye, as the name suggests, is a rough and tough sailor. And, he has a heart of gold and always does what he can for others.

3. Aladdin

Adapted from the legend 1001 Arabian Nights, Aladdin follows the basic story of the original version. It follows Aladdin, a homeless person whose life changed after he fell in love with Jasmine, the princess of Agrabah.

4. The Jungle Book

Everyone knows the incredible story of The Jungle Book, written by Rudyard Kipling. It follows Mowgli and his friends Bagheera and Baloo in a series of different adventures together in the wilderness.

5. Tom and Jerry

One of the most liked cartoons of all time, Tom and Jerry, was a childhood favorite of mine. If someone puts Tom and Jerry, we would still be glued to the screen watching the wild chase of the cat and mouse.

6. Looney Toons

Looney Toons came like a filler show between two different shows. We loved it. With its hilarious bunch of characters like Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny, Loony Toons always made us laugh out loud.

7. The Flintstones

The Flintstones followed Fred Flintstone, today’s -stone-age day man. Fred always finds himself in a series of misadventures resulting in hilarious episodes.

8. Pokémon

Seeing Misty, Ash, and Brock on a journey to explore and enjoy the world of Pokémon was something we made sure not to miss at any cost.

9. Winnie the pooh

This show was about the cute (unfortunately) fictional Teddy Bear, created by A. A. Milne and later adapted by Disney. In the front, beloved Teddy Bear Winnie-The-Pooh and his friends encountered exciting adventures in the Hundred Acre Wood.

10. Doraemon

This is amongst our favorite shows and one of the best old Hindi-dubbed cartoons. We have probably watched every episode along with all the movies of Doraemon. Doraemon is the story of a robot sent by Nobita’s grandson from the future to help Nobita in various ways.

11. Duck tales

The Duck Tales was an American cartoon about a veterinary science expert who shed light on the behavioral characteristics of ducks and explained the different aspects of their lives.

12. Johnny Bravo

Even the name Johnny Bravo strikes a feeling of heroism in your minds. Johnny Bravo is a muscular man who wears sunglasses and tries to get women to dating him.

13. Ninja Hattori

Ninja Hattori follows, as we have probably guessed, a Ninja. Hattori becomes a guardian and a close friend of Kenichi Mitsuba, a student in the elementary school who often runs into trouble.

14. TaleSpin

TaleSpin is about characters created by Rudyard Kipling. Shere Khan, Baloo, and King Louie run business operations in Cape Suzette.

15. Shinchan

Shinchan is the naughtiest and cutest pre-school kid on the planet who causes a stir wherever he goes.

2. Luck

Brought to you from the creators of Toy Story and Cars, the animated film Luck includes star-studded names such as Jane Fonda, Simon Pegg, and Whoopi Goldberg. Sam was always born unlucky until she fell into the “Land of Luck.” She hopes to bring all the luck back, but to do that, she has to reunite with the magical creatures to turn her chance around.

3. Carter

Premiere date: 5 August

Starring Joo Won, the action-thriller movie follows the life of an amnesiac agent who doesn’t remember anything about himself or his name. He later receives a mysterious message to obey orders to join a dangerous mission.

4. Locke & Key: Season 3

Premiere date: 10 August
Platform: Netflix
Get ready for adventure as Locke & Key comes back for its final season. We witnessed a stunning defeat against Dodge in season two. However, the Locke siblings will have to band together again to retrieve the remaining magical keys and face the most significant threat: Captain Frederick Gideon.

Jamie Foxx stars as hard-working blue-collar dad who wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted daughter. Still, his mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job is a front for his natural source of income, hunting and killing vampires as part of an international Union of vampire hunters. Also starring Jamie Foxx, Dave Franco, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, and Snoop Dogg.

6. She-Hulk: Attorney At Law

This Marvel Studios series follows Jennifer Walters as she navigates the complicated life of a single, 30-something attorney who is also a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk. The nine-episode series welcomes a host of Marvel Cinematic Universe vets, including Mark Ruffalo as Smart Hulk, Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky/the Abomination, and Benedict Wong as Wong.

7. Umma

Premiere date: 24 August

The supernatural-horror movie explores the life of Amanda (played by Sandra Oh) and her daughter living on a quaint farm. Their world changes dramatically when the remains of her estranged mother from Korea bring along a terrifying curse.

8. House of the Dragon

Platform: Disney+ Hotstar
Set 200 years the Game of Thrones, the spin-off series focuses on House Targaryen, a Targaryen royal family, and their power to have control over dragons. Starring Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, and Paddy Considine, the show will be adapted from George R.R. Martin’s 2018 book “Fire & Blood.”

9. Samaritan

Thirteen-year-old Sam Cleary suspects his mysterious neighbor Mr. Smith is a legend hiding in plain sight. Twenty-five years ago, Granite City’s super-powered vigilante, Samaritan, was reported dead after a fiery battle with his rival, Nemesis. Most believe Samaritan goes into the fire, but some in the city, like Sam, have hope that he is still alive.

1. The Test Case

Captain Shikha Sharma, the main character, is the sole female among a squad of Indian Army officers undergoing special forces training. She is the first female student in the school, making her a “test case” for the Indian army’s plan to hire women for combat-related positions. Despite being brilliant and very motivated, the plot follows her path of overcoming obstacles at home and biases by her coworkers.

2. The Forgotten Army – Azaadi Ke Liye

The Forgotten Army is the story of Indian soldiers who marched on the capital shouting “Challo Dilli” to free India from colonial authority. The first women’s infantry regiment from the Russian troops of 1917–18 was part of the Subhash Chandra Bose-led Indian National Army, formed from Indian soldiers who had emigrated to the Empire of Japan during World War II.

3. Avrodh: The Siege Within

The chapter “We Don’t Know Fear” from India’s Most Fearless by Shiv Aroor, and Rahul Singh inspired the film Avrodh. The nine-part series’ first few episodes focus on the strike’s preparation, while the latter two deal with the strike itself. The mission is kept a secret from everyone as planning proceeds at the highest echelons of government in New Delhi.

4. POW: Bandhi Yudh Ke

Two soldiers with a sinister secret in joint return to their families after spending seventeen years in captivity. While a government spy tries to reveal they’re terrible secret, the two families attempt to continue where they left off. The POWs are currently trying to acclimate to the surroundings they left 17 years ago. The government agent uses several strategies to identify these POWs but runs into problems.

5. Bard of Blood

When four Indian spies are kidnapped, RAW operative Kabir Anand is excommunicated, and a brave analyst and a sleeper agent engage on a secret mission in Balochistan. Unfortunately, the mission quickly goes south, and Kabir is forced to confront his past demons.

6. 21 Sarfarosh: Saragarhi 1897

More than 10,000 Pashtun and Orakzai tribal members attacked an army station in Saragarhi in September 1897, and 21 soldiers of the British Indian Army’s 36th Sikh regiment fought them.

7. Regiment Diaries

Historical videos and testimonies of soldiers highlight the wartime experiences, distinctive customs, and overarching values of the many regiments of the Indian Army.

A task group lead by Himmat Singh is looking for the person responsible for many terrorist acts. It’s an entertaiment series you will binge watch. The heroric and normal attirute of Himmat Singh is just more than amazing to keep you gripped throughput the series.

Which one is your favourite?

1. Monsieur Hulot’s Holiday (1953)

The French slapstick comedy is a simple story of a clumsy man named Monsieur Hulot whose hilarious antics cause pandemonium at a seaside resort where he is spending his holidays. The film technically has no dialogue and just background noises. It is, therefore, more along the lines of Charlie Chaplin films. Yet, the film is not as widely known to international audiences as Charlie Chaplin movies or even Mr. Bean.

2. Mississippi Masala (1991)

One of the most romantic underrated films ever, Mississippi Masala, revolves around an Indian-origin girl, Mina, and an African-American man, Demetrius, as they struggle to make people around them accept their love. The problem they face primarily comes from Mina’s family, who cannot forget the pains they had to endure when they were forced to leave their home country, Uganda, by the dictator Idi Amin during the ethnic expulsion of Asians in 1972.

3. Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003)

7. Raincoat (2004)

8. Kabhi Haan, Kabhi Naa (1994)

Not only is Kabhi Haan, Kabhi Naa one of the best-underrated movies of the 1990s, but it is also perhaps the most underrated film in Shah Rukh Khan’s career. The film was released the year after SRK gained fame as an anti-hero in Baazigar and Darr and was expected to be another mega-hit in his career. When the film hit the theatres, some critics were particularly appalled that it deviated from Alexandre Dumas’ acclaimed 1844 French novel of the same name. The film also stars Adam Driver in an important role. Unfortunately, even though critics gave it a thumbs up, the film was a flop. Only for Kalpana to get murdered in front of his eyes, without ever knowing the truth about him. It is a heartbreaking love story, revenge, and disability, made to perfection by Aamir Khan.

3. Anand

This film is an emotional roller coaster about a dying man who looks at life with an amazingly positive attitude and enjoys his time, knowing that his disease is incurable and that he will die soon. His last wish is to live to the fullest. The film’s climax, Anand’s death, and all the characters seeing him for the last time are one of the most heartbreaking scenes ever.

4. Kai Po Che

Abhishek Kapoor’s Kai Po Che is a film about three friends who experience love, loss, earthquakes, riots, success, and failure. Set in 2001 in the tumultuous state of Gujarat, the movie is a commentary on communalism and how the personal is political.

5. Veer-Zaara

This movie is based on cross-border forbidden love. A Muslim girl from Lahore falls in love with a Hindu Indian pilot, played by Priety Zinta and Shah Rukh Khan. He sacrifices his freedom to protect her dignity and life. Unfortunately, he gets framed and stays in a Pakistani jail for a very long time as qaidi number 786, all for love. It is a story about selflessness and sacrifice.

6. Kal Ho Naa Ho

Not one person does not cry while watching Shah Rukh Khan throughout this movie, especially in the climax. A film that subtly celebrates heartbreak and instills the belief that living one moment at a time and enjoying to the fullest, Kal Ho Naa Ho will make you cry and brighten your day simultaneously.

7. The Sky Is Pink

This movie is somber; it starts with death. The story explores what it’s like taking care of and then losing your child. What does your life become after a loss like that? Can love survive grief? Aditi and Niren are parents to 18-year-old Aisha; they go through so much to take care of her, despite knowing she has a terminal illness.

8. Lakshya

The story about growing up and war is essential in every person’s life. Karan’s conversation with his father, fixing his problems, and talking is beautiful. It reminds me how many soldiers do not get to make that call. Karan is in the war zone, and his father is comfortably seated on a sofa, watching TV, creating the perfect juxtaposition.

9. Sadma

Somu becomes the caretaker of Nehalata. She regresses to childhood due to retrograde amnesia after suffering a head injury in a car accident. He becomes the center of her universe till she is cured in the climax, forgetting about him entirely. He chases her to the railway station, falling and severely injuring himself. Covered in mud, he calls to her and mimics a dancing monkey she likes, but she does not remember him. He continues his attempts until the train departs, driving him to insanity.

10. Dil Bechara

Dil Bechara is the adaptation of the novel The Fault in Our Stars. Kizie and Manny, two young cancer patients, blossom as they fall in love with each other and life. It is a sad, romantic movie that makes you cry, yet it has a lot of heart. The story’s underlying theme is celebrating life despite death’s inevitability. Although it has a fun tone, end and sorrow loom over everything, from the natural and on-screen tragedy.

The MI franchise quickly became a must-watch with gadgets to rival any James Bond film, a grittier vibe, and stunts above and beyond anything we’d ever seen before.

10. Being the Ricardos (2021)

Unraveling the complex personal/professional relationship of television stars Lucille Ball (Nicole Kidman) and Desi Arnaz (Javier Bardem), Being the Ricardos aims to shed light on the couple that once enraptured 72% of all American television viewers. Flashbacks, interviews, black and white sequences, you name it, Sorkin uses it to dig deeper than any film has done before.

Katy Keene is a beautiful musical Archie Comic adaptation that is a must watch. Associated with Archie Comics Berlanti Productions produces this series, CBS Television Studios, and Warner Bros. Television. This TV series is about the lives of the four characters from Archie Comics, which also included the fashion legend-to-be Katy Keene. Desperately trying to grab the spotlight they all chase their dreams in New York City.

6. Sabrina the Teenage Witch

Produced by Filmation, an American animated sitcom television series is an Archie Comic adaptation. This series featured new episodes of Sabrina with Groovie Goolies which is a spinoff of The Archie Comedy Hour. Same as The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, this series too follows the life of a teenager witch who fights her darkest enemies using her magical powers based in Greendale.

7. Sabrina Goes to Rome

An Archie Comic adaptation and a part of the Sabrina the Teenage Witch series you can watch this weekend. The film features the notable characters of Sabrina Spellman, Salem Saberhagen, and a British witch Gwen, who Sabrina meets when she’s in Rome. This film features a combined cast and a plot based in Rome, so none of the scenes was shot in the standard set of Greendale.

8. Sabrina Down Under

This is a sequel of Sabrina Goes to Rome. Much like its first part, this movie is also starring Sabrina and her cute talking cat Salem Saberhagen. Directed by Kenneth R. Koch, this movie shows Sabrina going to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef along with Gwen, and there they try to keep safe a secret mermaid colony that is in danger because of ocean pollution by a local marine biologist.

This one is a musical comedy film about a fictional rock band. Directed and co-written by Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan, the film is loosely based on the Archie Comics series. The film stars are Tara Reid, Rachael Leigh Cook, and Rosario Dawson as the Pussycats, along with Gabriel Mann, Missi Pyle, Alan Cumming, Parker Posey, and Paulo Costanzo as supporting characters. This film is based in the imaginary town of Riverdale.
