Take the notes.
Then actually review them.
Most note apps are very good at the writing and quietly indifferent to what happens next. StudyJournal is built around the second half: write your pages by hand with Apple Pencil, star what matters, and find it waiting for you in a review notebook when the exam gets close.
A notebook that remembers why you wrote it.
Star a page, and revision writes itself
The star in the margin is the whole idea. Mark anything worth returning to — a worked example, a definition that finally landed, the thing you keep getting wrong — and StudyJournal collects those pages into review notebooks organised by subject. When the exam is a week away, you are not scrolling through four months of notes looking for the good bits. They are already gathered.
Written by hand, properly
Apple Pencil ink on real paper texture, with sticky notes, typed blocks and images layered on the page. Two fingers to undo, three to redo — the gestures you already use.
A Today page worth opening
Study time this week, your streak, the exams counting down, and the weather — a single calm screen that tells you where you are before you start.
AI that reads your notes, not the internet
Ask for a summary of a notebook, or a set of flashcards, and it is built from what you actually wrote. Summaries land back in your review notebooks as pages of their own.
Your handwriting, tidied — or not
Turn scrawl into clean text when you want it legible, and put it back exactly as it was when you do not. Dictate with your voice when writing is too slow.
The journal is free. The AI has a meter.

Questions, answered.
What is StudyJournal, exactly?
A handwriting-first study journal for iPad. You write pages with your Apple Pencil the way you would in a paper notebook, star the parts worth coming back to, and StudyJournal gathers those starred pages into review notebooks — so revision always has somewhere to start.
Do I need an Apple Pencil?
It is built around handwriting, so a Pencil is how it is meant to be used. That said, you can add typed text blocks, images and sticky notes to any page, and dictate with your voice when writing is too slow.
Is there an account or sign-up?
None. No account, no email, no sign-up. Your notebooks are stored on your iPad, and there are no ads and no analytics trackers anywhere in the app.
What does Plus add?
Only the AI allowance. Writing, starring, review notebooks, the Today dashboard and exam countdowns are all free and stay free. The free journal includes 3 AI actions a month; Plus raises that to 50, for $1.99 a month or $14.99 a year.
Is my writing private?
Your notebooks live on your iPad and are never uploaded. The only time anything leaves the device is when you explicitly ask for a summary or flashcards — and then only the relevant pages are sent, under a random identifier with no name or email attached, and they are not stored on our server. Read the full privacy policy.
When is it out?
StudyJournal is in the final stretch before submission to the App Store. This page will carry the download link the day it is approved.
Nearly there.
StudyJournal is finished and heading for review. It will be free to use, with an iPad and an Apple Pencil all you need to start.
