How to Book Train Tickets with the Indian Railways UTS App

Booking train tickets has become more convenient with the Indian Railways' Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) app. This app allows you to book non-suburban train tickets up to three days in advance, and suburban tickets on the day of travel itself. Below, you'll find a straightforward guide on how to use the UTS app to make your bookings.

Step 1: Download and Register on the UTS App

Getting Started

First, download the UTS app from your app store and create an account. Registration is simple: provide your mobile number, name, password, gender, and date of birth on the UTS website or directly through the app. Once registered, you will receive an SMS with your login credentials and a zero-balance R-Wallet for seamless transactions.

Exploring the App

The app's homepage offers various options such as 'QR Booking', 'Quick Booking', and 'Platform Ticket'. For standard ticket bookings, navigate to the 'Normal Booking' tab. Here, you can choose between two types of tickets:

  • Book & Travel (Paperless): Purchase and store your ticket on your mobile device.
  • Book & Print (Paper): Pay online but print your ticket at a UTS kiosk or railway station counter.

Step 2: Book Your Ticket

Selecting Your Journey

Turn on your mobile device's GPS if you're booking a paperless ticket. Select your departure and destination stations under the 'Depart From' and 'Go To' sections. Then, press 'Get Fare' to proceed to the payment page. If you're curious about the train timings, the 'Next Trains' option shows the upcoming trains to your selected station.

Finalizing Your Ticket

Choose your ticket type"”paperless for digital use within station premises or paper if you need a printed ticket. Set your GPS to high accuracy if you're outside the railway station to ensure the app functions correctly.

Step 3: Payment and Confirmation

Making Payment

Select whether to pay through the R-Wallet or other online payment methods such as debit card, UPI, internet banking, or credit card. Payment gateways like Paytm, MobiKwik, and FreeCharge are integrated for your convenience. Once the payment is successful, your ticket will be booked instantly for paperless mode. For paper tickets, head to the nearest booking counter or UTS kiosk to print your ticket.

The UTS app is designed to streamline the process of booking train tickets in India, making it quicker and more user-friendly. Whether you're commuting daily or planning a trip, the app provides all the necessary functionalities to ensure a smooth travel experience.
