Free Password Generator - Create Strong Passwords

Generate cryptographically secure passwords instantly. Our free password generator creates random passwords with customizable length, character types (uppercase, lowercase, numbers, symbols), and strength indicators. All passwords are generated locally in your browser — nothing is stored or transmitted.

Choose one of five password types: Random, Memorable, Passphrase, PIN or Pronounceable. Random passwords have a length setting and switches for uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers and symbols, and can leave out look-alike characters (il1Lo0O). Memorable passwords let you set the number of words and the separator, capitalize the words and add a number, and a passphrase is a natural-sounding sentence. Each generated password shows its strength, its entropy in bits and an estimated time to crack.

What Makes a Password Secure?

  • Length matters most — every character added exponentially increases crack time. Aim for 16+ characters
  • Mix character types — uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols together
  • Avoid patterns — no dictionary words, birthdays, or keyboard sequences like "qwerty"
  • Unique per account — never reuse passwords across sites. Use a password manager

Bulk Generate

Bulk Generate creates between 2 and 100 random passwords at once, with a Copy All button. Your recent passwords are kept in a history panel in your browser, which you can export or clear.

Security Tips

  • Use a unique password for each account
  • Longer passwords are exponentially stronger
  • Use a password manager to store them all
  • Enable 2FA wherever possible
  • Never share passwords via email or text

How Are Passwords Cracked?

  • Brute Force: Systematically trying every possible combination. Modern GPUs can attempt billions per second.
  • Dictionary Attack: Using databases of common passwords and words. Simple substitutions (P@ssw0rd) are well-known.
  • Rainbow Tables: Pre-computed hash lookups that trade storage space for cracking speed.
  • Credential Stuffing: Using leaked password databases to try the same credentials on other sites.
  • Social Engineering: Tricking users into revealing passwords through phishing or deception.

Frequently asked questions

Is this password generator truly secure?

Yes! We use the Web Crypto API's cryptographically secure random number generator. All generation happens entirely in your browser - no passwords are ever sent to our servers.

How often should I change my passwords?

Only change passwords when there's a reason: suspected breach, shared account access changes, or security updates. Frequent arbitrary changes often lead to weaker password choices.

Should I use the same password type for all accounts?

No. Use strong random passwords for important accounts (banking, email), memorable passwords for less critical sites, and passphrases for accounts you must type frequently.

What is entropy and why does it matter?

Entropy measures password randomness in bits. Higher entropy means more possible combinations. A password with 60+ bits of entropy is considered strong. Each additional bit doubles the cracking difficulty.
