Is an estimate legally binding?

Generally no — an estimate is your best assessment of the cost, not a fixed offer. If the scope changes or hidden work appears, the final invoice can differ. If you want the price to be fixed, say so on the document and keep the scope precise; many businesses add that work beyond the estimate is quoted separately.

What is the difference between an estimate and a quote?

In everyday use a quote is a fixed price you commit to, while an estimate is an informed approximation that can move with the scope. Both are issued before work starts and neither is an invoice. What is the difference between an estimate and an invoice?

An estimate comes before the work and asks for approval; an invoice comes after the work and asks for payment. An estimate creates no debt and is never entered into accounts. How long should an estimate stay valid?
