Tinder Unveils AI Matchmaker, Video Speed Dating, and IRL Events

Tinder held its first-ever product keynote, "Tinder Sparks 2026," unveiling more than 10 new features designed to combat dating app fatigue and win back Gen Z users. The updates lean heavily on AI, in-person events, and video speed dating, backed by Match Group's $50 million investment in product development.
Chemistry: AI That Scans Your Camera Roll
The headline feature is "Chemistry," an AI-powered matchmaker that learns about you through questions and, with your permission, analyzes your camera roll to understand your interests and lifestyle. It then curates daily match recommendations designed to reduce swipe fatigue. Chemistry is rolling out in the U.S. and Canada after testing in Australia and New Zealand.
Tinder says Chemistry will eventually grow from a standalone feature into something that shapes the entire Tinder experience, making it more personalized over time.
IRL Events and Video Speed Dating
A new Events tab (beta in Los Angeles starting late May) lets users discover curated local events like speakeasies, bowling nights, raves, and pottery classes where they can meet matches in person. Profiles of event attendees will be viewable on the app after the event, similar to "Missed Connections."
Tinder is also piloting three-minute video speed dating sessions in LA, where users can join scheduled video chats as a "vibe check" before committing to meeting in person. Users can extend promising conversations beyond three minutes.
Smarter Safety with LLMs
Tinder's "Does This Bother You?" feature now uses large language models to detect harmful messages and auto-blur disrespectful content, moving beyond simple keyword detection to understanding tone and conversational nuance. The "Are You Sure?" prompts have also been fine-tuned to better identify potentially harmful interactions.
The Bottom Line
Tinder is basically admitting that swiping alone does not work anymore. The company is throwing everything at the wall: AI matchmaking, astrology modes, IRL events, video dating, and a visual redesign with "Liquid Glass" aesthetics. Whether letting an AI scan your camera roll to find you a date is genius or dystopian probably depends on how your last few Tinder dates went.
