Nvidia Launches DLSS 4.5 with 6x Multi Frame Generation Exclusive to RTX 50-Series

Nvidia has launched DLSS 4.5, its latest AI-powered upscaling and frame generation technology. The headline feature: 6x Multi Frame Generation, which generates six AI frames for every one rendered frame — but it’s exclusive to the RTX 50-series GPUs.
What 6x Multi Frame Gen Does
Previous DLSS versions could generate up to 3 extra frames between rendered frames. DLSS 4.5 doubles that to 6x, meaning for every frame your GPU actually renders, the AI model creates five additional frames. The result is dramatically higher frame rates without proportional GPU workload increase.
The technology uses a second-generation transformer AI model that Nvidia says produces more accurate interpolated frames with fewer artifacts than the previous convolutional approach.
The RTX 50-Series Lock-In
The 6x feature requires dedicated hardware only found in RTX 50-series GPUs. RTX 40-series owners get DLSS 4.5’s other improvements but are capped at 3x frame generation. This is Nvidia’s tried-and-true upgrade incentive strategy: the best feature requires the latest hardware.
The Bottom Line
DLSS has become one of Nvidia’s most compelling competitive advantages — it’s the reason many gamers choose GeForce over AMD alternatives. By making the most impressive version exclusive to the latest generation, Nvidia ensures there’s always a reason to upgrade. Whether 6x frame gen actually looks good in practice will determine if this is a genuine leap or just a marketing number.
