Apple CarPlay Gets ChatGPT, Google Meet, and Audiomack — Plus WhatsApp Revamp Coming

Apple CarPlay just got its biggest app update in years. This week, three major iPhone apps officially launched on CarPlay: ChatGPT, Google Meet, and Audiomack. On top of that, WhatsApp is beta testing a completely revamped CarPlay experience that goes far beyond its current Siri-only functionality.

The headline here is ChatGPT. With iOS 26.4, Apple introduced a new category of "voice-based conversational apps" for CarPlay — and OpenAI wasted no time becoming one of the first to ship. This opens the door for other AI assistants (Gemini, Claude, Copilot) to potentially arrive on your car’s dashboard in the coming months.

ChatGPT on CarPlay: What You Can (and Can’t) Do

Google Meet Comes to CarPlay

Google Meet is now available on CarPlay, making it the first major video conferencing app on Apple’s in-car platform. It’s designed for professionals who need to join meetings while commuting:

• Audio-only participation — your camera is automatically turned off

Notably, Google Meet launched on Apple CarPlay before Android Auto — Android Auto users are still waiting for the same feature. This is a rare case where Apple’s car platform beat Google’s own.

Audiomack Expands to CarPlay

Audiomack, the 11th most-downloaded app in the App Store’s Music category in the US, now works on CarPlay. The app focuses on independent artists and is especially popular for Afrobeats and hip-hop. The CarPlay app includes:

• Discover, Charts, Playlists, and My Library tabs
• Stream and download songs for offline listening
• Full playback controls from the CarPlay interface

WhatsApp CarPlay Revamp (Coming Soon)

WhatsApp already works on CarPlay, but only through basic Siri commands. A revamped version is currently in beta testing that significantly upgrades the experience:

• Lists of recent chats and phone calls displayed on screen
• Favorites tab for quick access to your most-contacted people
• Proper CarPlay-native interface instead of Siri-only commands

No official release date yet, but expect it within the next few iOS updates.

Why This Matters: CarPlay Is Becoming an App Platform

The bigger story here isn’t just three new apps — it’s that iOS 26.4 introduced a whole new app category for CarPlay: voice-based conversational apps.
