Privacy Policy
Grateful: Gratitude Journal · Effective 17 August 2026
Grateful is a private journal, and privacy is the whole point. There is no account, no sign-up, and no personal profile. This page explains exactly what the app stores, and how the advertising that keeps it free works.
Your journal stays on your device
- Everything you write in Grateful is stored locally on your device only. It is never uploaded, transmitted, synced, or backed up to any server of ours — we have no server, and no way to read a single word of it.
- Your streaks, calendar history, chosen categories, reminder schedule, and app-lock setting are likewise stored only on your device.
- That's the complete list — Grateful collects no name, email, phone number, location, photos, contacts, or health information of any kind.
If you use Grateful's Face ID app lock, authentication is handled entirely by iOS; the app never sees or stores your biometric data.
Advertising — how the free app stays free
Grateful is completely free, with every feature included. In exchange, the app shows one small banner ad, served by Google AdMob.
- Like any mobile advertising service, AdMob may collect device information (such as device model, IP address, and advertising identifier — "Device ID" and "Advertising Data" in App Store privacy terms) to serve and measure ads, including for tracking where you allow it. Google describes this in its own privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
- You decide about tracking. Grateful uses Apple's App Tracking Transparency: personalized ads are shown only if you tap "Allow" on the standard iOS prompt. If you decline, you still get the full app with non-personalized ads instead — nothing is locked or reduced.
- You can change your choice anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Where required by law, a consent message (Google UMP) is shown before ads load.
- The app never passes your journal entries, prompts, streaks, or anything you do inside Grateful to the ad system.
Analytics
None. Grateful contains no analytics or crash-tracking SDKs beyond what Google AdMob itself uses to serve ads.
Purchases
There are none. Grateful has no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, and no paid tier.
Notifications
Reminders are scheduled entirely on your device using iOS local notifications. No push server is involved, and reminder content comes from the prompts bundled with the app — never from your journal entries.
Children
Grateful is written for adults and is not directed at children. It offers no accounts, no social features, and no chat.
What Grateful never does
- Never asks you to create an account or share contact details.
- Never uploads, transmits, or sells your journal entries — they exist only on your phone.
- Never collects health or wellbeing data.
- Never shows full-screen, video, or pop-up ads — one small banner, nothing more.
Your controls
- Deleting the app deletes everything Grateful stored, including all journal entries.
- The iOS tracking permission can be granted or revoked at any time in Settings.
- Reminders can be adjusted or silenced from inside the app or iOS Settings.
- The Face ID app lock can be turned on or off anytime in the app's settings.
