A virus in our computer just acts like a infection in a human, it spreads all over body, infecting and harming in every way it can. But we are lucky, that there is a way to protect our computer by a good and effective antivirus program.
In the starting days of Antivirus softwares, they generally detected viruses in computer. But nowadays, they are totally full protection software which basically acts like a layer over all programs in your computer to protect from various threats like virus, trojan, worm, malware, spyware, rootkit infections etc.
Even I recommend to use only one Antivirus program because more security programs can become cause of slow computer speed. But, there are many free Antivirus programs in the market and it’s difficult to choose the right one from ever growing number of Antivirus programs.

Coming to the point, in this article, I looked at several free Antivirus programs available which are best till know in protecting your computer from various viruses, threats and malware infections.
So, here’s the SaveDelete’s compilation of top 10 free Antivirus programs available in the market to make your computer virus free without losing any penny.
1) Microsoft Security Essentials : This antivirus is from Microsoft team and totally free for Genuine Windows users. It has a good detection rates and most of all very light on resources. Automatic updates works perfectly fine. To see the whole review and how to install MSE on your computer, please click this link.
2) Avast ! Free Antivirus : Avast is often seen as the biggest competitor to other Antivirus programs as it is very simple and easy to use. Avast is loaded with most features, real-time protection capabilities including web, E-mail, P2P, network shields, boot-time scanning. It is very light on resources and hardly take minutes to schedule scans. But there is one negative point that you have to register first and it takes time to register. Otherwise it is widely preferred Antivirus program for many users.
3) AVG Free Antivirus : AVG has been around in the Antivirus market from ages and gained lot of loyal users to their kitty. They also provide upgraded version which is very costly but I believe that their free Antivirus program is great for users having personal computers. AVG user interface is pretty simple and it takes a minute to install on your computer.
4) Bitdefender : Bitdefender is one of the best contender for top Antivirus software which provides advanced protection against viruses, phishing attacks, spyware, malwaere and various other real-time threats. It takes only minutes to download it and work without slowing down your computer speed. There is also a very nifty feature included in the latest version that it helps to protect leaking your personal information via E-mail, Web or IM.
5) Avira AntiVir Personal : One of the best pick if you are looking for simple to use and light on Antivirus software. It works perfectly fine to detect virus, spyware, rootkit threats. The best part of Avira is that it is quiet outstanding in terms of finding malware. Few false positives about Avira is that it does not inlude E-mail scanner in free version, but if you open any infected E-mail, it comes again into action. And with every update, it shows advertisements but you have choice to disable them. I still believe that Avira is strong Antivirus program and you should try it.
6) Comodo Antivirus + Firewall : This program was started as a commerial Antivirus software but now available free for both personal and commercial use. It is very simple to use, light on resources and doesn’t affect your computer speed. It offers real-time scanning, automatic updates, email scanning, detects worms and spyware. The virus definition is update daily and Host Intrusion Detection allows you to protect from attacking viruses, spyware, and other malware before they infect your computer.
7) A – Squared Free : This program was detecting and removing only trojans in the starting but recently included the Ikarus antivirus engine. It scans your computer from Trojans, Viruses, Spyware, Adware, Worms, Bots, Keyloggers and Dialers. The only negative point about this software is its large virus update size. Its comes with Antivirus + Anti – Spyware.
8 ) Rising Antivirus : Rising Antivirus Free Edition is Antivirus solution from China. It is a simple program which runs low on the memory and do every bit of task that every other Antivirus software does. It protects computers against all types of viruses, Trojans, worms, rootkits and other malicious programs. One feature is good is that it provides full protection to your account information. It mostly updates on alternate days and if you are looking for “install and forget” program, this program is best.
9) PC Tools Antivirus : All-in-one program which can protect your PC from virus, worms, trojans and also included scanning of incoming and outgoing mails. It provides you on-demand scans and automatic updates. The negative points are that free edition offers limited support and updates are non-priority based which are essential for real-time virus protection program.
10) Spyware Doctor with Antivirus 2010 : As the name suggests, its comes with Anti-spyware and Antivirus program which provides full security to your computer. It detects almost every infection like spyware, adware, trojans, viruses, worms, keyloggers, identity theft, phishing, popups and malicious websites. It updates automatically mostly on daily basis.
1 More Bonus Free Antivirus
11) DriveSentry : DriveSentry is free anti virus software for personal computer use only. It comes with Anti- spyware, Antivirus and Anti-Malware program. It provides real time protection and updates regularly.
Hope you like my list of top 10 free antivirus. If you know any free Antivirus which you feel that it would fit in the list, please be kind and share with others in the comments section below.
I am using KIS 2010 and very happy. Anyway free antivirus sometimes help me a lot

Thanks for sharing this article Yogesh. It helped me a lot and I am sure will help many.

buddy if you want anti virus licensed one for 6 months then you can down load from here:-
http://www.technama.com/2009/download-mcafee-antivirus-plus-2010-free-6-months-trial/
on this link you will get all available 6 month anti viruses and they are really affective..
i will recomend you for mcafee plus and kaspersky don’t download norton it consume more resources from your computer and will make your pc slow..

download Anti virus and enjoy…
May be Avira should come on Top, It is far better from others.
I’m using NOD 32….I’m OK with it but sadly it’s not in your list Yogesh..Is it good according to you?
.-= shiningtweety´s last blog ..15 mind-boggling door designs that you’ll keep staring at! =-.
Nod 32 is one of the most effective Anti-virus softwares at present. Its detection rate for new malicious threats is far better than Norton, McAfee, Kaspersky.
The only downside is that it is a paid software so it can’t be in this list.
Also Comodo AV has a lockdown mode which is the single best protection against variety of threats that keep coming every day.
Yea comodo av is good!!its free and better than other av…it automatically checks updated virus in databases before scanning..
try VIPRE PREMIUM antivirus, let me know who better
I have been using the free version of AVG for years now and have been very happy with it. I will have to check out some of these others now though!
.-= Kevin M.´s last blog ..Sermon Synopsis 4/18 – What’s love got to do with it? Pt. 2 =-.
The best two, IMHO, are:
Panda Cloud Antivirus & Avira’s Antivir version 10.
These are both ‘cloud based’ programs. This means that they don’t need definition updates ever, as the ‘cloud database’ is always up to date.
They need internet connection to work. That is a REALLY BAD disadvantage, because you might be spreading shit while trying to take care of it…
Why is Panda Cloud Antivirus not mentioned here? I found it to be very good against most trojans. Most of all it is really light on resource usage. Perfect for users who hav old hardware.
hello Rahul all antivirus is good agar aap update kro to
Great list indeed. I used to use AVG then Avast, but now I am happy with Microsoft’s Security Essentials. Thank god I found your site in some directory and I am glad I found it. I am subscribing to your feeds. See you in Google Reader
.-= Amit´s last blog ..Get Google Calendar Events and Alerts on Desktop with GMinder =-.
I also tried microsoft antivirus. The disadvantage is that, it takes time to update and scan. It also is a heavy antivirus. It can slow down your PC.
I use Panda Cloud AV: http://www.cloudantivirus.com/en/
If you are interested in speed and memory usage, and are able to understand spanish, read my review at Análisis de antivirus gratuitos (http://guti.bitacoras.com/index.php?entry=entry081207-182836)
I miss Panda Cloud AV (www.cloudantivirus.com) I think it’s great (actually that’s the one I’ve got installed on my netbook)
Have you tried it?
I recommend to use Linux instead, its free and its free of viruses too.
its also free of working software like photoshop etc.
GIMP and bunch of other programs, and honestly no one needs photoshop unless he/she is professional Graphic Designer and to touch up photos or add effects there are bunch of web based apps like pixlr, picnik, aviary and may more… Linux is fast, secure, safe and very easy and above all it is free and never stops working when you need it.
But if you are a professional, better use windows. Windows support more programs and is more user friendly. It is very simple to use and you can update your system for free. Linux on the other hand, it is mostly for begginers.
Linux is for beginners? Sorry i am not trying to disrespect you, but what you just said shows you have NEVER used Linux. Its easy to use , it auto updates, it is very secure, and anything windows does Linux can do too (with the exception of game support). The Gimp graphic editor can do anything PS can do, it can even use PS filters. Oh and the best thing of all…..ALL THE SOFTWARE IS FREE!!!
Thanks. I use Avira v.10, but I’ll try Microsoft Security Essentials
yo utilizo el sentido comun y essentials y malwarebytes

I agree with you. But kaspersky needs to update its parental contol. It blocks website which contain words like a rifle model and block it as weapon.
nice list i use avira
Thanks for sharing.
I have been using Avast for years and it works great. I have haven’t gotten any viruses on any of my systems. Believe me, Avast has caught a lot of attempts from different sources and has stopped them before any damage was done.

It’s going to be interesting to see how Microsoft Security Essentials performs. My guess is it’s going to be a major flop…especially since the users aren’t paying for it. AVG on the other hand has been around for years and years and has a paid version. It works pretty well and will likely be around for a long time to come.
AVG sometimes interrupt like update and scan especially if you are having a heavy process.
I use AVG Internet Security 9.0 right now.
I would agree with you on #1 being MSE, but I think it should be followed up by Panda Cloud as #2. Avast and AVG are just too bulky now and tend to slow down systems I have used them on recently.
I use AVG for one computer and KIS 2010 for other computer
I would bump Avast! to the top due to the recent fiasco with MSE upgrading to a new version. Thousands of people, including me on tne machine I had it on, were left with no protection after the “upgrade” disabled the old version but failed to install the new one. The old version was not completely uninstalled and the entry in add/remove programs would not work. You had to run the setup in a DOS box and even then manually remove the folders from Program files before being able to install the new version. This was the second consecutive “upgrade” that behaved like this. The affected machine is now running Avast! along with my main computer. MSE works fine when it’s working but beware the program upgrades.
BAD BAD MSE! (SPANK SPANK)
Two years ago I went from Avast! to MS Live until they stopped support for it and I shifted to MSE after finding out how to get rid of the ghosts from live and Avast! that were still hanging around. Last month a trojan made it through that was severe and posed as a virus protection program that installed on my machine, it was called AVfakpro or some such that shut me down for 3 days and included a nifty popup generator to harass me while I tried to kill it. I suceeded at killing it manually and thoght my problems were over. NOPE apparently it was at a site I had recently frequented and I contracted it again and it’s the same but rewritten with better code that has left me in a bad spot. I safemoded my puter, pulled up essentials and again killed it. Next day it appeared again and now it’s lodged in my boot sector apparently and I can’t get rid of it. Unfortunately I can’t even do a fresh wipe and install as I didn’t get system disks with this puter. (and threw out the case with the code sticker when I installed it into my beloved tower). So now I need to buy Windows AND get another AV program running. (NOT MSE for SURE!)
Jeff, before you do all that, download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. The free version will do. Install it, make sure it’s fully updated and scan with that. It should find and remove that rogue program. To be sure it does you might want to run the scan in safe mode.
thanks yagesh for sharing me this page it helped me a lot 2 solve my problem.
i have been used avast! for 3 years & still preety good with its protection, now i used the new version, and it not slowing my PC! thanks to avast! team..
I’ve used AVG for years and it interesting that some commentators felt it is getting a bit bulky since I’ve noticed it slowing down my pc. Useful list, thanks
1st-I used almost all antiviruses from this list
(out of Microsoft, Comodo and DriveSentry …); here is missed Avast Free, is better than many from here, even if give a bit too many “false positives”, better so than too few real positives
(right now im using 3 (free only!) 2 from list and 1 not; of course only 1 active/enabled, 2 only for on demand purposes; and as extra 1 antispyware (also free), enabled ofc …)
2nd-Norton SUX! my opinion … k, not very sure if last n versions … i tried it 1 maybe 2? years ago, i hate when i cannt disable/deactivate guard/background scanning! doesnt matter what antivirus, can be the best from world, isnt for me … PC Tools and Spyware Doctor also SUX! its detected my 100 % SAFE Bitdefender as rogue antivirus!! O_o can you believe that??
3rd-Best 2 from all the world are, nooo, not NOD :p, but Kaspersky and Bitdefender!! after these 2 maybe McAfee …
oops! sorry … Avast is … damn, mea culpa …
ITS really a good collection of antivirus softwares..thanks for sharing with us…
It’s not worth it. You might as well invest in Kaspersky or Avast
thank you for the information, success
I personally use many anti-virus software but i found Nod32 is one of the best anti-virus for pc. If you have or looking for Nod32 username and password follow this link http://tinyurl.com/35fvyvk .
I’ve been using AVG and Avira, but now I prefer Norton, because it is safer than free antivirus, especially when connected to a local network
Well, I use Avast Free and I am pretty pleased with it. It does not catch ALL viruses but it does a pretty good job and it does not slow your PC very much like norton, kaspersky or panda. Other cool thing for avast is that it always blocks iframe viruses in sites.
I was looking for quality anti virus for my PC from a long time. Finally, I have found here. I can find words to express my gratitude. Thanks for your kind support and help.
Great summary of the antivirus software. I personally recommend avast! for it’s large signature database that is updated frequently enough to keep you safe from the most well-known viruses and latest outbreaks. It’s downside is that it doesn’t always catch less widespread viruses.
i dont have anti-virus in my PC , beacouse he work fine !
Would the editor of this page / review also recommend beginner users one of them.
hello people. My favorite antivirus is Kasperky which i found at top ten best antiviruses http://www.best-antivirus.co/.It seems to me very good because here i could find the review of it
good luck
I would like to know if there are features that these AV softwares should include to make our pc’s more safe and usage easy and simple.
the best antivirus ia rav(rising),pctools is the worst,it slows down the computer and it is not useful.i got a virus in 1 month with pctools and in 1 year with rav i still didnt have virus.
MY chice is AVG IE-2010
BitDiffender Total Security-2010
I have used Microsoft Security Essentials, Avast, AVG and Avira
Microsoft Security Essentials is new and its not so good.
Avast find Viruses but it slows your Computer.
AVG its good but sometimes he cant find Viruses.
Avira is not so good because it says Virus to all things.
And so not all(FREE)Anti-Viruses are good.
Microsoft Security Essentials hangs computer on Scans
I prefer AVG Internet Security
Does any one has AVG IS 2010 license key
Great review. By the way im currently using Avira and it works wonders. It updates everyday and it does not slow my computer.
i like you rate MSE on the top But where is Avast ,AVAST must be on no. 3 as it is simply the best program with a lot of features for free ,its detection rate is also good.
So i request you to change the list and add AVAst on no. 3 after MSE and Bitdefender
sorry, my mistake ,you rated it on no. 2
Sorry remove my comment
I say, best is Avast & Enode32,
but Microsoft Security Essentials, I really don’t know, sp help us?
Nod 32 is not free but MSE is not also but also its detection capability is very good than the paid products ,you can trust microsoft security essentials. It is simple to use and a very good antivirus
Thanks a lot for sharing this list .
I first was using AVG but now switched to Comodo
Thanks for the information.
MSE should be the best choice for those who are using genuine and licensed windows OS.
Otherwise I preffered AVG as a free antivirus.
whoever made this list is an idiot
From my experience
1-comodo
2-avg
3-panda
btw avira and nod32 and kaspersky r useless believe me

i was infected with a deadly i was using nod32 and when i scan it says ur pc is clean lol even i installed Microsoft essential same result but when i swicth to the master comodo it get rid of it easily
i recommended it and even the new one is antiviurs and antispware
comodo is best
I had use lot of commercial anti-viruses[kis,node32,avg] and other free antiviruses
but, comodo is the best antivirus.
when it comes the best i never contented for a second best i always look and think which great,, am always on a antivirus forum section and i carefully take notes all details regarding downloading antivirus.. but i couldn’t decide which is available or suite to ma windows xp. i encounter problems from avira b4 lol usually license key. file corrupted i think,. help me chatter.
What about ZenOK Free Antivirus? its free and pretty good, from my experience I would stay with it, it has been the best security software I have ever used.
I believe the best antivirus program to be released this year has to be the Bitdefender Antivirus Pro 2011.
I enjoy with AVG and combain with Smadav, and then keep up to date my microsoft security essential.
I THINK I WANNA INSTALL ALL OF THE “TOP LISTED” ANTIVIRUS ON MY PC. SO I CAN HAVE SUPER SECURITY PROTECTION.
I think that malwarebytes free and avast free is a realy ood combinashion if you know how to stop avast sheilds and then put on malwarebytes.Malwarebytes free is only a scaner no scheilds.
To stop avast sheilds right-click on avast icon located on taskbar and click on avast! sheids and then click desable permanently then open malwarebytes.
oops i mean good not ood
I have been using Avast for a long time and I love it
segun programas especiales de deteccion … panda cloud es el mejor antivirus en base a proteccion en la clase de : free
en la clase de experto : Kaspersky Internet Security 2011
en la clase allround : pricipiantes y expertos gana:
Symantec Norton Internet Security 2011
hasta la otra ..!
Thanks
Its Avira ..
1000 times best
Install it and forgot about Viruses
i prefer avast 5 free edition. it offers all kind of protection lyk a paid AV. so simple to update thro’ slow connections too. happy to have it now. AVG is a bit sluggish in now finding the viruses. any way thanx for the review
Thanks for sharing these free pages. I currently use my universities free anti virus but I know I won’t be able to use it forever so these will be useful. In your opinion, what is the best one?
using avira and avg but didn’t find the best one till now
I have been using Avira since long time and well satisfied with its detection rates. Nice list of antiviruses.
all the anti virus are great.all you have to do are update it daily and stay safe.p/s jeff ,please update mse daily to stay safe.in one word UPDATE DAILY
i use microsoft essentials and works good and reacts very fast when any virus attack is there on my laptop.previously i had tried norton which is also a better software but not free for more time.Other than that i also used mccafee but for a limited time and it dont show that much effect like norton and microsoft essentials. Anyway it depends on how you use your laptop and what sites you are visiting.
Avg 2011 is the best
I only used MSE, avast, norton and avira antiviruses in 2010. Now I thinking to use kaspersky or ESET-NOD32 antivirus.
kaspersky use too much ur memory use Nod32 it is fastest and good AV
I always went for AVAST and MSE!
ive used avira,avast,nod32,macfee n norton, but kaspersky is my stress free prescription
You might consider to add ZenOK Free Antivirus is the software I use to protect my pc against trojans, malware ect…so far very good.
sorry to say but I tested my self in more than 30 computers Microsoft Security Essentials is lame in caching and disinfecting normal virus apparently nod32 or even avast was more effective in those process. 4 of the 30 computers were infected with a worm I had to format them and install OS again…..and installed AVG free and Malwarebytes free with USB disk Security and until now everything is fine.
best antivirus 2011
1 . the shield deluxe 2011 (5 star) best
2 . Trend Micro Titanium Antivirus 2011 (4 star)
3. norton internet security 2011 (4 star)
4 . Panda Antivirus Pro 2011 (3 star)
can any body give me idea about choosing a free best anti virus for my PC. i used AVG but it was slow down all other process. which is the best just send me A mail with free link with that for downloading that virus.
try a combination avast! and malwarebytes
Any reader after reading this article want to have keys of Nod 32 then visit below link
http://geeklove2rock.blogspot.com/2011/01/nod-32-antivirus-free-activation-key.html
i used AVG for long, then i changed to microsoft essentials… i kinda like it. coz of simple features..
i think kaspersky is much better
and i would like to introduce a new antivirus
to download visit http://www.tnsantivirus.com/
Avast is the best for me,and now is full, tough i need to register 1 time per year
I think that the best AV will be the one that is best suited for each individual PC or Laptop. I had MSE on my cousins Windows 7 laptop, and it was a beautiful thing. However, MSE did not do so well on my Windows XP laptop, unfortunately.
Want To Free From Virus Just Shut Down Shut Down Your Modem That’s It…………..
All Antivirus Is Ridiculous Waste Our Money All Time Get This And That From Network
Why Does All Anti Virus Professional Company Create Antivirus Furthemore They are All
Bussiness Man ??????Can Play With Our Money Is Like U people Are Playing Poker Win Win
Situation. Why Can’t They Design Such As All In One Antivirus etc Inside The Modem Itself U ppl Think About It .Am I Right To Say This. For Poor Ppl Out There Such As Me Need To Buy Every Year To Install New Antiviirus.
In our two PCs, we are using Avira and Avast for anti-virus because recently, my files were being corrupted by the unwanted virus. And my anti-virus could not clean the problem detected. But good thing that it’s okay now. I have my friend fixed it.
Avira a lot cool than avast the reason why it slows ur machine is that it protect it from too much functioning which is radical for virus escalation. I am on facebook meet me there
Avira is not good antivirus because this is not reliable for internet.
Free Avast Antivirus is the best! Defenetly! Best regards
I am using AVG antivirus, this is very good.
I have used AVG ….. But when i updated all were correct.ion my computer….When i update with AVAST it say’s my computer is not genuine…
SO .. I THINk . AVAST IS THE BEST…THAN AVG ….
KASPERSKEY is the top ONE

I believe Avira and Avast are better than others. But I have now personally switched to Kaspersky..
There are some interesting points in time in this article but I don’t know if I see all of them center to heart. There may be some validity however I will take hold opinion till I look into it further. Good article , thanks and we would like more! Added to FeedBurner as nicely
Nice article. It is very informative post.
Bit defender is the best………………….
microsoft is the best n microsoft products is bestes i love microsoft
great post Yogesh, I prefer the AVG antivirus, I’m using this antivirus in the last three years and I’m very pleased with it: It’s free, you get automate update, the UI is very easy to handle and the GUI is friendly. That’s is why I keep using it all these years. thanks for sharing this review.
I will rate kaspersky as no.1 paid antivirus, though it consume a little more bandwidth, but it could be nothing against saving your system against all the dangers on the web. I myself use kaspersky internet security 2011 and its update rate is quite good. All the other free antivirus are good to try.
I’ve always used AVG and never had any issues. I think that having effective anti-virus software improves the life of your machine no-end.
Thanks for posting this article. I’m definitely tired of struggling to find relevant and intelligent comments on this topic. Everybody today seems to go to extremes to either drive home their views or suggest that anyone else in the world is wrong. Thank you for your accurate and relevant insights.
mediahuset nova svindel
the best free anti-virus according to my research is avg
avg website
Thanks for your wonderful job to list them.I need some free sites to view.
kaspersky is also the very best antivirus software
I was using Avg for a long time, and I was very happy with it until I outdated it , of 20012, the it become a virus against to my computer. It showing a software that saying need accepting the web, and I did, then I have one the worse virus call java trojans, viruses, the I have to delete now I’m trying http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/security_essentials/default.aspx , the version of AVG 20011 was wander full, but the new is bad bad, maybe it work fine , all depend tape of system on your computer . My is windows 7 and felling as the new version of AVG need improve.
I would keep searching for the best , Good Luck to all.
I think it is about time that we get something other then microsoft. I swear they control the whole world. Lets move away from them before it is too late!
I used Avira and Avast. Those are good free anti-virus software. But I think we should better buy an license to secure more our computers.
AVG is very heavy on systems
Great post, I have been looking for this, thanks for provinding the information.
A very Helpful Information,thanks SD.
By the way,I preffer Net-protector Anti virus which is famous in India…
I use AVG myself, i find it keeps out the most viruses, trojans and internet malware scripts
i have used Norton in the past but i found it hogged the CPU
