Google Docs and Open office are my favorite, now also gonna check other.
Add LibreOffice to your list (www.libreoffice.org).
It’s a fork of OpenOffice that has many bug fixes, speed improvements, and program enhancements. I’ve found it works better with Microsoft 2010 file formats than OpenOffice was.
Wow.. this is a wonderful collection.. thanks for the great post.
OK well for a start not one of the above word processers is as good as word. The online word processers are inferior to Open office and Lotus and don’t even come close to word.. Open office and Lotus are the best by far. Neo office is not better than the latest Open office, (Libreoffice). In fact for the cost of a mac I would of thought that apple would of at least put in something almost as good as word.
I’m always puzzled by people who love MS Word. The 2007 version I have is some of the worst, overly complicated software I’ve used (like a contraption made of 10,000 pencils and 100 feet of tape just to turn the page of a book). Some of us need to us a word processor regularly but find it ridiculous that we should have to buy a large manual or take online courses to learn something that should be rather intuitive for the computer savvy. I think the Word lovers might have Stockholm syndrome.
I never tried Word processing except for Microsoft. But I’m open to possibilities. Thanks for sharing!
Great list!
But if you seriously want to get down to distraction-free, full-screen capable writing, there are even better options, like:
- ommwriter (OSX/WIN) (FREE)
- focuswriter (OSX/WIN) (FREE)
- scrivener (OSX/WIN) ($35-$45)
I found SSuite’s free word processor WordGraph to be an excellent and refreshing alternative.
It’s interface is very easy to understand and has very nice features not found on other word processors like thumbnail-view and word count.
Certainly worth a look at…
