With the January transfer window now open, the highly inflated numbers of Premier League transfers are thrown around with speculation rife. This article also serves as a better opportunity to make this year’s transfer window more interesting, with different theories around what will actually happen.
Jimenez linked to United
Wolves’ boss Nuno ceases to rule out the possibility of Jimenez joining Manchester United in January, as he states “anything can happen when the window is open”.
Manchester United are on the hunt for a new striker as their Premier League form continues to get worse. Jimenez has scored 17 goals, with nine assists for Wolves so far this season, making him a prime target for United — with a £51 million price tag.
His great form would have expected to be something that Wolves wouldn’t see worth letting go of, but it seems Nuno has hinted that him leaving is a possibility, perhaps indicating they would be happy with the money — or that he is trying to force a move away.
Arsenal step up their interest in Jerome Boateng
Arsenal have signalled official interest in Boateng by launching an enquiry. This comes at a time where Arsenal’s defence appears to be their weakest point, alongside Calum Chambers getting a long-term injury.
Boateng is roughly estimated to cost £13 for Arsenal should they try and acquire him, which might be the coup that Arteta is looking for. The world cup winner is known as a strong player on the ball, something that Arteta could help the way his Arsenal team start attacks from defence.
Newcastle looking for a Giroud loan this January
Newcastle United are looking to sign the French Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud this January window on loan. Chelsea however, are looking for a replacement before letting go of Giroud. In fact, Chelsea have already had a bid rejected for Lyon striker Dembele, which is a stumbling block in the Giroud loan move.
Giroud will most likely be looking for game time, as this was his reason for leaving Arsenal football club, and is likely why he is accepting of the Newcastle loan. Furthermore, minutes will be necessary if Giroud wants to star in the French squad, which is packed full of talent, for the Euro 2020 competition.
The Newcastle boss Steve Bruce is looking to bulk up his attack with some forwards currently struggling.
Edison Cavani edges closer to Atletico Madrid
PSG boss Thomas Tuchel has made a desperate plea for Cavani to remain at the French side PSG, where he stated “I trust that he will stay with us”. Cavani however remains hopeful that the move will happen to Spain, in which the 32-year-old’s contract is set to expire in the summer.
Cavani is reported to be extremely keen on pushing a move to Someone’s Madrid side. Cavani is currently struggling with form after an injury, but would hope to find new form in a new league.
Cavani’s price tag reportedly comes at a very low £12 million, due to his imminent contract expiration.
