10 Best Free Software Downloads for Feb 2013

With 2013, the software market is booming like anything, every day, every hour there is something coming new and due to the immense competition the quality of products has been increased considerably.

We make an extra effort now and then to make a list of best software launched or revamped in previous months, this time we have collected ten best free software for feb 2013. Let us know which of the following free software gives you a piece of mind while using it. With great interfaces and marvellous typography these software have made me say wow.

1. Bitdefender 60 Second Virus Scanner – Anti-Virus Tool :

Min requirements Windows XP/Vista/7/8 File size : 156KB (installer)

The problem with a lot of anti-virus programs is that they take ages to scan your system and often hog important resources, making it difficult to use your computer for other tasks. As you can probably guess from the name, Bitdefender’s 60-Second Virus Scanner is different. It’s light, super-fast and, while it certainly won’t replace your existing security software, it’s handy to have as a second line of defence.

The interface is a simple widget that sits on your Desktop and can be repositioned or shrunk down to the System Tray. To run a scan simply click the magnifying glass in the centre of the widget and watch the timer as it counts down the brief scanning time.

While the first scan does indeed take just 60 seconds to complete, subsequent checks are considerably faster. On our test PC, the average time after five scans was just 26.3 seconds. Fifteen scans later, the time had dropped to 17.1 sec. The scan is so fast because it’s carried out in the cloud, which means the data is analysed online and only checks a few critical system areas. According to the report it generates, 60-Second Virus Scanner targets around 30 or so processes and just over 1000 files. The program settings let you change the scan frequency (this can be daily, weekly or monthly); Choose if you want the scanner to start alongside Windows; and turn real-time scanning on or off.

2. Collapse, Collide – Game

Min requirements: Windows XP/Vista/7/8

Collapse, Collide is a short, experimental platform game that uses some stylish pixel art. You control a character who can cling to walls and jump when falling – two tricks that prove very helpful for getting you through the levels. There are secret areas to discover, and a hard mode that does away with checkpoints to make the game more challenging.

3. SoftPerfect WiFi Guard – Wifi Scanner

Min requirements: Windows XP/Vista/7/8, Mac OS X or Linux

It will scan your network and present you with a list of connected devices, telling you when they were last active, and flashing up a warning if it detects any unrecognised ones. If you know a device is safe, you can tell Wi-Fi Guard and it won’t warn you about it again. The program can scan your network automatically at predetermined intervals.
