Early life And Family – Shamita Shetty was born on 2nd February 1971 in Mangalore, Karnataka. She was born in the Tulu Bunt family. Her father, late Surendra Shetty (died on 11th October due to cardiac arrest), manufactured tamper-proof water caps for the pharmaceutical industry. Her mother name is Sunanda Shetty. Shamita Shetty is the younger sister of well-known Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty. Shamita Shetty spent her early childhood in Bangalore, and then family shifted to Mumbai.
Education and Qualification – Shamita Shetty completed her schooling at ‘Saint Anthony’s Girls High School’, Mumbai. She completed her graduation from ‘Sydenham College’, Mumbai. She graduated from commerce and is B.com. As she wanted to make a fashion designing career after graduation, Shamita Shetty pursued fashion designing diploma course from SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai.
Career:
Acting Career – After completing a diploma in fashion designing Shamita Shetty started her internship under the famous fashion designer Manish Malhotra. Manish Malhotra hinted spark in her and advised her to pursue an acting career.
Shamita Shetty made her debut in Bollywood with Yash Raj film ‘Mohabbatein’ directed by Aditya Chopra in the year 2000. In the movie, she portrayed the role of Ishika which earned her IIFA Award 2001 for Star Debut of the year female. Soon after the movie, she gave two of the best numbers to the Bollywood including ‘Sharara Sharara’ in ‘Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai’ 2001 and ‘Chori pe Chori’ in the movie ‘Saathiya’ 2002. In 2005 she appeared in the movie ‘Zeher’ and was appreciated for her acting. She was also nominated as a Star of Year Female at Stardust Award for her acting skills in Zeher. Shamita has also worked in the movie ‘Fareb’ with her sister Shilpa Shetty and has been part of multi-star cast movie projects such as ‘Bewafaa’ in 2005 and ‘Cash’ in the year 2007. Some other movie Shamita appeared in include Agnipankh, Wajahh: A Reason to Kill, Mohabbat Ho Gayi Hai Tumse, X Hari Puttar: A Comedy of Terror and Naan Aval Adhu. Career as Inetrior Designer – Shamita was always passionate about becoming a designer, so she decided to focus on interior designing alongside her acting career. In year 2011 decided to follow her passion for interior designing. She created her first solo project Royalty, a Mumbai club. Because of a love for interior designing she graduated from Central Saint Martins and the Inchbald School of Design in London. She also designed Chandigarh losis Spa for which she won the ‘Best Interior Award’ at ‘Asia Spa awards’. She has a registered interior designing company called as ‘Golden Leaf Interiors’.
Other Works In The Entertainment Industry – Even after leaving the Bollywood, entertainment industry kept Shamita drawing back. She made her come back on the small screen as a contestant in the Indian reality show ‘Bigg Boss’. However, she opted out of the show to attend her sister Shilpa Shetty’s wedding after staying in the Big Boss house for six weeks. During her stay in the Bigg Boss, she was the only contestant who was not nominated even once. After Bigg Boss, she appeared in the reality show ‘Jhalak Dikhla Ja’ which is the Indian version of ‘Dancing with Stars’. Shamita also appeared in mini web series ‘Yo Ke Hua Bro’ (2017) that streamed on Voot. In the year 2019, she participated in ‘Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi’ and became one of the finalists.
Personal life and affairs- Shamita Shetty is not very open about her personal life. Once there was a rumour that she was in a relationship with the Indian actor Harman Baweja. Both were spotted together on several occasions but eventually parted their ways and got separated.
Shamita Shetty is not married. In one of her interviews, she said that marriage for her is a very secret affair and she will not tie the knot just for its sake. The actor further adds that partners these days do not respect each other enough and do not hold to their relationship as people used to in the past.
