People with income below Rs 3 lakh per year will be exempted from tax, said Arun Jaitely who presented Union Budget 2017 today on Feb 1st at 11 am on Wednesday, during the Budget Session.

Personal Income Tax:
- Arun Jaitely said that for first time tax payers, no scrutiny will be done.
- FM: IT return will have 1 simple page form that will be introduced.
- Arun Jaitely : 99 lakh people showed income below the exemption limit in 2015-16 out of 3.7 crore individuals who have filed the tax returns.
- 15% surcharge will continue for incomes above 1 crore.
- 10% surcharge for people with income between 50 lakh to 1 crore.
- Zero tax for people using rebates on Rs 4.5 lakh income.
- No income tax for people with income of 3 lakhs and below and maximum of Rs 2,500 tax for income between Rs 3 and 3.5 lakh.
- People with income between Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh will pay tax of 5%, which is reduced from previous 10%.
Companies Tax:
- Minimum Alternative Tax (MAT) will not be removed in 2017-18. “I propose to allow to carry forward of MAT for a period of 15 years as against 10 years now: Arun Jaitley.
- 5% tax rebate for companies with turnover above Rs 50 crore. The overall income tax will get reduced to 25%. More than 90% Indian companies will get benefit from this and it will boost the MSME sector said FM.
