Threads now allows users to deactivate their account independently of their Instagram profile

Meta introduces a new feature allowing users to delete their Threads profile independently of their Instagram account. This update, confirmed by Instagram head Adam Mosseri, will reside in the settings menu under “Delete or Deactivate Profile.” Although not yet available universally, it’s anticipated to be accessible for all users soon.

This capability to delete solely the Threads profile addresses an initial concern about the app, which currently necessitates an Instagram account for sign-up. Mosseri had previously mentioned the company’s exploration into enabling independent deletion of Threads accounts shortly after the app’s launch. For those hesitant about permanent deletion, deactivating the Threads profile remains an option.

Additionally, Mosseri shared news about the platform rolling out a feature that allows opting out of displaying Threads posts on Facebook and Instagram. This update comes after Meta’s response to user feedback requesting more control over their experience.

Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO, disclosed that Threads boasts nearly 100 million monthly users. Speculations by app investigators suggest potential upcoming features such as hashtags and direct messages (DMs). However, the anticipated support for ActivityPub is still awaited, personally speaking.
