DoorDash has revealed plans to introduce AI-driven voice ordering technology for restaurants, aiming to enhance sales by ensuring that all incoming calls are addressed. This advancement will not only address customer calls promptly but also offer personalized recommendations to enhance their dining experience.
According to DoorDash’s 2023 Restaurant Online Ordering Trends Report, a significant portion of customers, approximately one in five, prefer placing takeout orders over the phone. However, a considerable portion of these calls, up to 50%, remains unanswered, leading to potential revenue loss for restaurants.
Rajat Shroff, DoorDash’s Head of Product and Design, emphasized the need to meet evolving customer expectations and offer technology-oriented solutions. The incorporation of voice-based ordering, Shroff noted, serves as a response to these demands and supports restaurant operators in expanding their businesses.
DoorDash’s innovative approach combines artificial intelligence with live agents to ensure quick and efficient handling of customer calls, minimizing wait times. This strategy empowers restaurant staff to concentrate on in-person diners during peak periods, as AI takes over call management.
The new system guarantees a tailored voice ordering experience across various languages, eliminating missed calls and lengthy hold times. Repeat customers will find it easier to reorder their preferred meals, and live agents remain available for additional assistance when required.
For restaurants looking to streamline phone order deliveries, DoorDash offers DoorDash Drive, a white-label solution that facilitates direct delivery. This solution provides customers with a seamless end-to-end experience, including order tracking capabilities.
