Chrome is on the verge of undergoing a slight visual transformation

Google’s widely used desktop browser, Chrome, is set to receive a refreshed appearance in the coming weeks, inspired by the Material You design language. This update will encompass redesigned icons aimed at enhancing legibility and new color schemes to better complement your tabs and toolbar. Chrome’s Vice President, Parisa Tabriz, shared this information in a blog post.

One of the most notable changes is the increased roundness in elements, particularly evident in the top window corners.

But that’s not all; Google is extending this design refresh beyond Chrome itself. The Chrome Web Store’s interface is also receiving a Material You-inspired makeover, complete with those appealing rounded corners. These changes are already accessible in a public preview.

In addition to the visual updates, Google is enhancing the security of Chrome through updates to its Safe Browsing tools. Currently, Chrome checks potentially hazardous sites against a locally stored list, updated every 30 to 60 minutes. However, in the near future, it will conduct real-time checks against Google’s list of malicious sites. This change will prevent users from accessing newly created malicious sites, potentially reducing malware and phishing threats by up to 25%, as Tabriz explains.
