Persona 4 Golden and 3 Portable: Getting modern consoles

The Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable re-releases are scheduled to launch on January 19, 2023, Persona developer Atlus announced on Twitter.

The two JRPGs will arrive on the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PS5.

While Persona 3 Portable’s making its way to Steam for the first time, Persona 4 Golden has been available on the marketplace since 2020 and became a verified Steam Deck title earlier this year. We first heard that Persona 4 Golden, Persona 3 Portable, and Persona 5 Royal were coming to other platforms back in June.

While Atlus didn’t set a release date for the two former titles at the time, it did confirm that Persona 5 Royal is arriving on Xbox, Switch, PS5, and Switch on October 21, marking the first time a Persona game’s coming to a non-PlayStation console.

Persona 4 Golden and 3 Portable are remastered versions of their original counterparts, launching for the PSP in 2009 and PS Vita in 2012, respectively. Atlus released Persona 5 Royal in 2020, which we called “the definitive version of an already brilliant RPG” in our review. Unfortunately, you can’t preorder either game on newer platforms, but Persona 5 Royal is available for preorder in both physical and digital copies.

Persona 3 Portable, also shortened as P3P, is an improved re-release of Persona 3, released for the PlayStation Portable as per the game’s title. Backward compatibility also causes the game playable on PlayStation Vita and TV.

The game permits the player to select the gender of the protagonist, which possibly spreads up new routes and scenarios in the story. The theme of the game spins around the butterfly effect, reflecting the differences that happen should the player follow the path of one protagonist over the other, and the Latin term memento mori, which translates as “remember (that you have) to die,” which has performed a significant role in the thematics since the initial Persona 3.

Unlike various renditions of Persona 3, the game lacks 3D backgrounds and character ideals (outside of Tartarus), all anime cutscenes are run, the graphics and audio rate are shortened, and The Answer is a story complete to Persona 3 FES. Unfortunately, it is not known in P3P due to the limited storage slot on the UMD.

In June 2022, as a component of the Persona 25th Anniversary, it was revealed that Persona 3 Portable would be ported to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, the Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and Microsoft Windows thru Steam and the Microsoft Store.

Persona 4 Golden, abbreviated as P4G and Persona 4: The Golden in Japan, is an enhanced re-release of Persona 4, launched for the PlayStation Vita. The port adds new content and convenience features to update the original game. In addition, Golden was adjusted into an anime, Persona 4 The Golden Animation.

On June 13, 2020, the play was released on Steam for Microsoft Windows PCs. The port has received many technical enhancements, which include bug fixes, performance, and immediate availability of hardship customization.

In June 2022, as a component of the Persona 25th Anniversary, it was revealed that Persona 4 Golden would also be ported to Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, and the Nintendo Switch. In addition, the game’s Windows 10 Store version will also be released for Microsoft Windows PCs. These versions of the game will launch globally on January 19, 2023.
