The Unit 1 company, specialized in wearables, has developed the Faro smart bicycle helmet, designed for cyclists who drive in urban environments, which has functionalities such as fall detection and internal ventilation.
Made with funding from Kickstarter, Faro employs a sleek design with clean lines and safety lights at the rear and front to improve visibility for cyclists while driving, especially in the city.
At the rear, the helmet has a red positioning light bar, as well as 40 LED lights located behind its fabric rear, which can change colour and be controlled with an app, with day or night mode.
The Unit 1 helmet stands out especially for its smart functions, such as the use of its rear LED lights as turn signals to visually mark when the rider is going to turn. This requires a compatible control, with brake and turn functions, which can be mounted on the bicycle handlebar.
The functions of the helmet are controlled through the Faro mobile application, with which the user can customize the lights, the power consumption of the device to conserve the battery (1,850 mAh) or track the distance travelled.
Another of the main functions of Faro is fall detection. When the device detects a strong fall, it waits for the user to respond, and if not, sends an alert message to a predetermined contact with the location of the fall.
Likewise, the Unit 1 smart helmet incorporates a total of 5 fans inside, to maintain the temperature of the device.
Besides, Faro is certified for impact resistance, granted by the Swedish company MIPS, as well as IPX6 water resistance. The Faro smart helmet is available in pre-order through Kickstarter in three sizes and four colours for a price of 109 euros, with a discount before its launch.
