Every morning we wake up to news or two of rapes in our local newspaper. The increasing number of rape cases that makes headlines reflect the situation of our country. One such horrific incident took place recently in Rajasthan where a 17-year-old boy was raped in Rajsthan in broad daylight.
In 2016, India recorded 106 rape cases per day. While in most cases women were the victim, over the years the number of men getting raped has increased rapidly. Indian laws need to recognise that men can be raped too. The misery is most male rape victims don’t even report the incident to the system.
The 17-year-old boy raped in Rajasthan in a thread of tweets explained the entire ordeal. The boy wanted to use a public toilet and was raped by two men with their face covered using a mask. What left him traumatized is how no one after listening to him pleading for help came out in his support. The boy kept shouting for help throughout the incident and people around pretended as if nothing happened.
