Zoom : How Chat works, Tips and Tricks

Zoom has grown one of the best video conferencing software apps. It permits you to interact with co-workers when in-person meetings aren’t imaginable virtually, and it has been hugely triumphant for social events, too.

Zoom is an indispensable tool for small-, medium-, and large-sized units who need to keep in touch and maintain their daily workflows with little disruption and grow a solid preference with individuals, notably around holidays like Thanksgiving in the US and Christmas throughout the world.

What is Zoom?

Zoom is a cloud-based video conferencing aid you can use to engage with others virtually – both by video or audio-only or both, all while administering live chats – and it allows you to record those sessions to observe later. Zoom Rooms require an extra subscription on top of the subscription and ideal for larger companies.

Zoom : Main Features

  • One-on-one meetings: Host unlimited one-on-one meetings, too, with the free plan.
  • Group video conferences: Host up to 500 participants (if you buy the “large meeting” add-on). However, the free plan enables you to entertain video conferences of up to 40 minutes and up to 100 participants.
  • Screen sharing: Engage one-on-one or with big groups and share screen with them so they can understand what you see.
  • Recording: You can record the conferences or events too.

How does Zoom work?

Zoom enables one-to-one chat sessions to develop into group calls, training assemblies and webinars for the internal and external public, and global video meetings with up to 1,000 participants and as diverse as 49 on-screen videos. The free tier recognises unlimited one-on-one meetings but limits group sessions to 40 minutes and 100 participants. Paid plans begin at $15 per month per host.

Zoom offers four pricing tiers (not including a Zoom Room subscription):

Zoom Free: This tier is free. You can operate an unlimited number of meetings. Group encounters with multiple shareholders are capped at 40 minutes in length, and appointments can’t be recorded.

Zoom Pro: This tier costs $14.99/£11.99 per month and meeting host. It caps group meeting durations at 24 hours. It enables hosts to build personal meeting IDs for repetitive Zoom Meetings, and it will facilitate meeting recording in the cloud or the device.

Zoom Business: This tier costs $19.99/£15.99 per month and meeting host (10 minimum). It engages the brand Zoom meetings with vanity URLs and company branding, and it provides transcripts of the meetings recorded in the cloud and dedicated customer support.

Zoom Enterprise: This tier costs $19.99/£15.99 per month and per meeting host (100 minimum) and is intended for businesses with 1,000+ employees. It provides a customer success manager, allows unlimited cloud storage for recordings, and discounts on webinars and Zoom Rooms.

Zoom Rooms: If you need to set up Zoom Rooms, you can register for a free 30-day trial, after which Zoom Rooms require an added $49/£39 per month and room subscription, while webinars utilising, it cost $40/£32 per month and host.

How to chat in Zoom (desktop client)

  • Download the Zoom desktop client for Mac or Windows.
  • Initiate the client and commence or join a meeting.
  • Click Chat in the meeting controls bar at the bottom of the client. The chat window will initiate on the right.
  • Write a message into the chat box or tap on the drop-down next to “To:” if you need to message a particular person.
  • When new chat messages are transmitted, a preview of the message will arrive, and the Chat button will flash orange. Tap the key to see the chat window.

How to chat in Zoom (mobile app)

  • Download the Zoom app for iOS or Android.
  • Initiate the app and commence or join a meeting.
  • Click the screen to make the controls bar appear.
  • Click on Participants.
  • Click Chat at the bottom of the list.
  • Write the message and tap Send. If you require to give to a specific person, click the arrow next to “Send to:” and pick from the list.
  • When new chat messages are posted, they will be presented at the bottom of the screen. Click Participants, then Chat to observe them.

How to Chat in Zoom as a Host

As the host of a meeting, you have check over the chat purpose. You can disable chat for all members or impair private chat (so people can’t post private messages). You can also arrange limitations so that members can message only the host or message a collection of panellists on a webinar.

Here’s how to set Zoom chat settings on desktop or mobile as a host:

  • Fix up and begin a Zoom meeting or webinar.
  • Tap on the Chat button (desktop) or proceed to Participants, then Chat (mobile).
  • Tap More.
  • In the dropdown menu, pick an option for “Allow attendees to chat with.”
  • For conferences, the host can allow attendees to chat with no one, with the host only, everyone publicly or privately.
  • For webinars, the host can allow attendees to chat with no one, with every panellist (including host) or every panellist and attendee.
