Windows 10 Taskbar Icons Missing : Fixing the Issue

Windows 10 Taskbar Icons Missing . . . . It is sometimes a situation for Windows 10 user to wake up at least once to find that some of the favourite icons are gone missing from the Windows 10 taskbar.

It might make the user angry whether he/ she likes it or not, not to see favourite icons in taskbar anymore. But what user does not know is that he/she can solve the tiny little problem as swiftly as getting a glass of water.

User can easily customize the taskbar by following a straightforward method which is perfectly explained as the following steps.

Fix 1 Restarting Windows Explorer

  • Tap CTRL + Shift + Esc key together for opening Task Manager.
  • Now, Locate Windows Explorer, right-click on it to choose End task.
  • Tap on File and choose run new task.
  • Write explorer.exe in it and check to create this task with administrative privileges.
  • Click on, OK.

Fix-2 Deleting IconCache from the computer

Deleting the IconCache database file from the computer will solve this issue.

  • Tap Windows key+R simultaneously to open the Run window on the computer.
  • In the Run window, copy-paste this run command and then hit Enter.
    %appdata%
    Appdata Run
    For the Roaming folder to open on the computer.
  • Now, in the Roaming folder, click on “Appdata” in the address bar to go to the folder.
  • Double-clicking on “Local” folder to access it.
  • In the Local folder, tap on “View” in the menu bar. Notice whether the option “Hidden items” is checked. Check to see the hidden options/items in the folder.
  • In Local folder, right-click on the “IconCache” folder and then click on “Delete” to delete the computer’s database file.
    Try closing File Explorer window on the computer.
    Restart the computer. After rebooting the computer, icons will be definitely visible on Taskbar once again. Your problem should be solved.

Fix 3 Using Command prompt

  • Search cmd in windows 10 taskbar search.
  • Right-click to choose to run as administrator.
  • Copy and paste the below-given command and hit the enter key.
    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Fix 4 Turn off Controlled folder access

  • Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security
  • Now, click on Windows security from the left menu for Virus Threat Protection Min.
  • Tap on Virus & Threat Protection settings.
  • Scroll down and toggle off Controlled folder access.

Fix 5 Reinstall Taskbar

  • Search Powershell in Windows 10 Search.
  • Right-click and choose run as administrator.
  • Copy and paste the command below given and hit enter key to execute the command.
    • Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers| Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml}

Fix 6 Remove temp files

  • Press Windows key + R together to open run command box.
  • write %temp% in it and click OK.
  • Delete everything in it to clear temp files.
