How to Post on Instagram, Process made Really Simple

How to Post on Instagram is a task considered something of next level but not in reality. Posting on Instagram is super easy, whether you’re posting from the mobile app or your computer.

To post on the Instagram mobile app, open the app and tap “+.” Then, choose or take a photo and select a filter. Tap “Next,” add a caption, and tap “Share” to post your photo. It’s as easy as that.

The process is a little different while posting on a desktop or via the Windows 10 Instagram app, but no problem. . . it is also, still really simple.

Posting Photos and Videos on Mobile

Open Instagram.

Tap the Instagram app icon, resembling a multicolored camera front to open Instagram home page in case logged in. If not, enter Instagram account’s email address or username, or phone number and password to continue.

Tap “+.”

Placed at the bottom-center of the screen, brings up the camera interface.
Or, tap the house-shaped Home tab in the bottom-left screen corner.

Select an upload option.

Tap one of the following options at the screen bottom:
Library/Gallery – to open list of saved photos and videos.
Photo – to open camera to take a new photo.
Video – to open camera to make a new video.

Take or select a photo or video.

Opening the photo or video in Instagram’s editing window will enable you to select a photo or video or take one.

Tap Next in the top-right corner of the screen to continue to select a photo or video. While selecting a photo, you can select multiple photos by tapping the overlapping squares on the right screen side and tapping to nine more photos to post in one go to create a slideshow of photos to scroll through.

Select a filter.

Tap a filter to apply to the photo or video. You can tap the filter again to bring up a slider to reduce the filter’s effect. Tap the Edit tab at the bottom of the screen to edit various aspects e.g., Brightness or Contrast of the photo or video.

Tap “Next.”

Add a caption.

Tap the text field at the top of the screen to type in the caption. Tag Instagram friends in photo or video by tapping Tag People, the photo, and selecting friends. To add a location tap on the photo, tap Add Location to select a location.

Tap “Share.”

Placed in the top-right screen corner, post photo or video to Instagram page. The photo or video will show up in the home page feed for all who follows you. In case Instagram account is linked to other social media accounts like Twitter or Facebook, you can tap the switch to the right of the account to post the photo or video in that specific platform as well. Big size pictures are too large to post normally. Make it possible to be posted by resizing the photos or creating a profile mosaic.

Posting Comments on Mobile

Open Instagram.

Tap the Instagram app icon resembling a multicolored camera front to open Instagram homepage when logged in. In case of not pre-logged in, enter Instagram account’s email address or username, or phone number and password to continue.

Go to a photo or video that you wish to comment on.

Scroll down the homepage feed to find the post to leave a comment. Tap the search bar at the top of the page, enter a user’s name, and tap name to go to the respective profile in case you know the person who posted the photo or video.

Tap the speech bubble icon.

Placed below the photo or video to comment, tapping it opens a new page with a comment box. In case comments are disabled, you won’t be able to post a comment. You may reply to an existing comment, tap the comment for which you wish to reply and tap Reply.

Type in the comment.

Type in the text box at the bottom of the screen.

Tap Post.

Placed on the far-right side of the text box, tap to post comment for the post creator and their followers to see or read it.

Posting Photos and Videos on Desktop

Ensure Google Chrome is installed.

Install the Google Chrome browser before proceeding, in case you don’t have installed it on the computer. In case of a Mac, you can use the Safari.

Open an incognito window in Google Chrome.

Open Google Chrome to click ? in the top-right corner of the window. Tap on New incognito window near the top of the resulting drop-down menu. Press Ctrl+? Shift+N (Windows) or ? Command+? Shift+N (Mac) to open a new incognito window.

Click ?.

Tap it which is placed at the upper-right corner, for drop-down menu to appear.

Select More tools.

Placed near the bottom of the drop-down menu, it helps in selecting prompts for a pop-out menu to appear next to the drop-down menu.

Click Developer tools.

At the bottom of the pop-out menu, a prompt will appear on the Developer window to pop out from the right side of the Chrome browser.

Click the “mobile” icon.

A rectangular icon in the upper-left corner of the Developer window will turn blue, and browser will refresh into a mobile format. In case icon is already blue, mobile view is enabled.

Open the Instagram website.

Click the address bar at the top of the Chrome window—making sure to delete any text there if necessary—then type in instagram.com and press ? Enter. Instagram’s login page will open.

Log into Instagram.

Click Log in near the bottom of the page to enter login credentials and password. Click Log in to see Instagram feed open in mobile format.

Click ?.

Placed at the bottom of the page to open a File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) window on the computer.

Select a photo.

Click a photo to upload to Instagram. Click the folder in which the photo is located on the left side of the window to select a photo.

Click Open.

Placed in the bottom-right corner of the window to upload the photo to the Instagram mobile site.

Select a filter.

Scroll down to click the Filter tab in the lower-left side of the page, scroll down again and click a filter to use. This step is optional, skip if don’t want to use a filter.

Click Next.

Click a blue button in the upper-right side of the “New Post” page.

Enter a description.

Click the “Write a caption…” text field to type a description for the photo.

Click Share.

A blue button in the upper-right side of the page will help share the post to the Instagram page.

Posting Comments on Desktop

Open Instagram.

Go to https://www.instagram.com/ to open Instagram homepage if already logged in. In case not logged in, enter email address or username, or phone number and password before continuing.

Find a post to comment on.

Scroll down through Instagram feed to find the post to add a comment. If the person is known who posted the photo or video, click the search bar at the top of the page, type in name, click name as it appears to go to the page.

Click the speech bubble-shaped icon.

Placed below the post, it will take to the comment field. In case comments are disabled, nobody will be able to post a comment. You cannot reply to comments on desktop.

Type in comment.

Type in the text box by clicking the speech bubble icon.

Press ? Enter.

To post comment for the original poster and their followers to see, press enter after typing is completely done.

Posting via the Windows 10 Instagram App

Install Instagram.

The Instagram app is available for installation on Windows 10 computer. Open the Microsoft Store, Click Search. Type in Instagram. Press Instagram in the drop-down menu that appears. Click Get on the left side of the page.
Wait for a notification that Instagram finished installing.

Open Instagram.

Click Launch in the Store window, or type Instagram into Start and press Instagram at the top of the search results.

Log into Instagram account.

Click the Log In button when prompted, enter Instagram email address or username, or phone number and password and press ? Enter to log into the Instagram app on computer.

Click ?.

It is placed at the bottom of the Instagram window.

Click Camera Roll.

Placed at the top of the Instagram window for a drop-down menu to appear. Take a picture or video using built-in webcam, click either Photo or Video at the bottom of the page, get photo or video by clicking the circular “Capture” button, and skip the next three steps.

Select a photo location.

Click one of the folders in the drop-down menu to select a photo. Place cursor in the middle of the Instagram window and scroll to find photo or video to upload and clicking it to select it. For adding multiple items at once, click SELECT MULTIPLE and select up to 10 photos and/or videos.

Click Next.

Click it which is placed in the top-right corner of the Instagram window.

Select a filter.

Click one of the filter tiles at the bottom of the window. Skip if don’t want to use a filter for photo or video. Double-click a filter to open a menu with a slider to drag to the left to reduce the amount of filter used on photo or video.

Click Next.

Placed at the top-right corner of the window, press it to go to next.

Add a caption.

Click the text field at the top of the form by typing in the caption. Tag Instagram friends in the photo or video by clicking Tag People, clicking the photo, and selecting friends. Add a location to the photo by clicking Add Location to select a location.

Click Share.

Placed in the top-right corner of the window, this will post the photo(s)/video(s) to Instagram page.

Post a comment on someone’s post.

Post comments in the Instagram for Windows 10 app by clicking the speech bubble icon under a post. Press Reply, given below a comment for replying to the comment if you want to. Enter comment’s text and Click Post in the right-hand side of the text box.
