Keyboard lag is what some Windows 10 users are complaining about. They are facing keyboard lag on computers. The letters typing are appearing on screens with a considerable delay.
If you encounter a similar problem on the computer, you need not worry. There are a few easy fixes which can solve the problem very quickly. But before going with the solutions, try the workarounds on the device. These will be to test the keyboard for hardware mistakes.
Initial Workarounds – For Wired keyboard
- Check whether the keyboard is plugged in correctly to the USB port. Unplug it to wait for a while. Plugin again to Check whether the problem still lags the system.
- Plug the keyboard to another USB port on the keyboard.
- Test keyboard by plugging it to any other computer. When there is still a lag, try another keyboard on the computer. If the newly plugged-in keyboard works fine, then there was an error with the original one.
Initial Workarounds – For Wireless keyboard
- Disconnect the keyboard to wait for some time. Reconnect the keyboard. Check whether the lag on the device persists.
- Try to connect the keyboard with some other laptop. It starts working fine on the computer, then go for the following fixes.
- Replace the batteries of the keyboard.
- If nothing works with workarounds, try these fixes.

Fix-1 Turn Off Filter keys
- Try to find “Use filter keys” from the Search box near the Windows icon. Tap on “Use Filter keys to ignore small or repeated keystrokes “.
- On the Settings page’s right pane, “Use Filter Keys” to ensure it is “Off “.
- Reboot the computer to check whether the lag issue persists on the device.
Fix-2 Use Registry Editor
- Tap Windows key+R to launch Run, and type “regedit” to Enter.

- A single wrong change in the Registry can brick your system. So, you must follow the steps to initiate a backup.
- a. Tap on the “File” to then click “Export “.
- b. Save the backup in a secure place.
- If any problem appears, you can retrieve it back quickly.

- Navigate to the given location in the Registry Editor window-
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Services > i8042prt
- > Parameters
- After clicking on “i8042prt“, check for “PollStatusIterations” on the right pane.
- Double click on “PollStatusIterations”, in the space of “Value Data” to set the value as “1” and tap “OK “.
- Close Registry Editor.
- Reboot the computer to experience no lag while typing.
Fix-3 Uninstall keyboard software
- Tap on Windows key+R simultaneously to open Run.
- Type “devmgmt.msc” to hit Enter to try opening Device Manager.
- Expand “Keyboards “in Device Manager window.
- Right-click on “HID Keyboard Device” to tap on “Uninstall device “.
- Tap on “Uninstall” to uninstall the driver from the computer.
- Close Device Manager.
- Reboot the computer to complete uninstallation.
- The keyboard driver will get installed on the computer upon rebooting the computer to fix the keyboard.

Fix-4 Change Keyboard Properties
- Press Windows Key+R to launch Run
- Enter the command to hit Enter.
- Notice options to set them as per the preference.
- “Repeat delay: “- This option tells a key is repeated by tapping it for how much time. Set the slider according to own choice.
- “Repeat rate: “- This option sets the pace of repetition of the keystrokes. The more is the slider towards the “Fast “, the quicker the keystrokes repeated. Adjust it as a preference.
- After adjusting the keystrokes, tap on “Apply” and then on “OK” to finally save the changes.
- Reboot the computer to check whether the system faces the problem of keyboard lag.
Fix-5 Run Keyboard troubleshooter
- Type “Troubleshoot settings” in the Search box near the Windows start icon.
- Tap on “Troubleshoot settings” on the raised portion.
- Go down to tap “Keyboard ” on the right pane of the Settings window.
- Tap on “Run the Troubleshooter” to initiate the troubleshooting.
- Follow on-screen instruction in the troubleshooting window.
- The troubleshooter will get queries with the Keyboard lag issue and tries to fix the problem.
- Reboot your computer. After rebooting, you should not be facing problems.
Fix-6 Update the keyboard driver on the computer
- Tap Windows key+ R to open Run.
- Type “devmgmt.msc” to hit Enter to open it.
- Look for “Keyboards ” in the Device Manager window, click on it to expand it.
- Right-click on the problematic keyboard driver and click on “Update driver “.
- Click on the option, “Search automatically for updated driver software “.
- Leave the rest to the Windows. It will find the latest version of your keyboard and install it on your computer.
- Then, reboot your computer.
Your problem should be fixed.
