Method 1 : Using the Router’s Stock Password
- Check the router’s stock password. When initially setting it up, you may usually find it by checking router or documentation.
- Find the router unit for the password. Mostly router’s password are kept as a sticker on the back or bottom of the unit.
- The password is usually near the “SSID” heading.
- Password may be in router’s manual.
- Check inside router’s original packaging and manual, you may be able to find a login sticker inside the packaging.
- Use router’s bypass to connect. Connect by pressing a “WPS” button on the back of the router and then selecting the network on computer.
- Check your model’s specification, not every routers have this feature.

Method 2 : Finding the Password on Windows
- Tap the Wi-Fi icon in the far-right side of the taskbar at the bottom of the screen for Wi-Fi menu to appear but only works if you’re currently connected to a Wi-Fi network with a forgotten the password.
- Tap Network & Internet settings at the bottom of the Wi-Fi menu.
- Press the Wi-Fi tab on the left side of the Settings window.
- Tap Change adapter options in the top-right corner of the Wi-Fi page, just beneath the “Related settings” heading to open a Control Panel page.
- Press current Wi-Fi network which is monitor-shaped icon with green bars next to it on this page
- Tap View status of connection which is menu item just below the address bar at the top of the Network Connections window.
- Tap Wireless Properties in the middle of the window.
- Press the Security tab at the top of the window to open “Network security key” field near the middle of the page where password is stored.
- Check the “Show characters” box below the “Network security key” field to replace the black dots in the “Network security key” field with the much needed Wi-Fi password.
Method 3 : Finding the Password on Mac
- Open Finder by clicking Finder app icon, a blue face in Mac’s Dock.
- On Mac, you do not have to be connected to Wi-Fi network to get the Wi-Fi password.
- Click Go in the row of menu items which are in the top-left side of Mac’s screen.
- Tap Utilities in the Go drop-down menu.
- Double-Tap Keychain Access which is a key-shaped app in the Utilities folder.
- Check network’s name and double-click it when Mac connects to the WiFi network.
- Sort Keychain list alphabetically by clicking the Name category near the top of the Keychain window.
- Check the “Show password” box near the bottom of the network window.
- Enter administrator password when prompted, the one you use to log into Mac.
- Correctly entering administrator password will display the password.
Method 4 : Using the Router Page
- Connect a computer to the router via Ethernet if you don’t know Wi-Fi password.
- Find router’s IP address to access router’s page with router’s IP address.
- For Windows — Open Start, click the Settings gear, click Network & Internet, click View network properties, and check address next to “Default gateway”.
- For Mac — Open the Apple menu, click System Preferences, click Network, click Advanced, click the TCP/IP tab, and check for number to the right of “Router:”.

- Go to router’s page to open preferred browser and enter router’s IP address.

- The default username is generally admin and default password is admin, password, or blank.
- Go to the “Wireless” section by clicking a tab at the top of the page or finding it in the navigation menu.
- To find the password, check in the “Wireless” page to get wireless network name (SSID) as well as the security or encryption type near the security options to see the “Passphrase” or “Password” field which is wireless password.
Method 5 : Resetting the Router
- When Wi-Fi password is unrecoverable, you may reset router to its factory settings which will only change the router’s password back to the factory password, the one printed on the bottom or back of the router.
- Resetting your router will also disconnect every item you have connected to the router, therefore should be last option.
- Check for “Reset” button on the back of the router. you will require needle to press the “Reset” button.
- Press and hold the “Reset” button at least 30 seconds to ensure complete reset.
- When the router reset, the lights on the router should flash or briefly turn off.
