So many complicated terms are revolving around us these days which we can’t sometimes even pronounce and when we come to know that we ourselves are going through it, it sounds like a nightmare coming true.
One such trend which is spreading like an epidemic is PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome). For a person with a medical background, it is a known medical term. But for commoners and people from non medical background, it is no less than a fatal disease, the way it sounds. The only reason is lack of awareness regarding the term itself.
But relax readers, I am right here to explain this to you in a simple commoner language (SCL- we will term it so for all our future reference). Let me explain you in brief about PCOS.
PCOS is a condition where there are multiple cysts (lumps) formed in the ovaries which add to hormonal imbalances in the body of a woman. The sad part of this syndrome is that there is no specific cause which can be claimed to be a primary reason of this disorder.
The most common symptoms for PCOS are irregular menstrual cycle (periods), sudden weight gain or loss, hair loss, depression, pelvic pain (pelvic pain can be a sign that there is a problem with one of the organs in your pelvic area, such as the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, cervix, or vagina. etc.) There can be issues with fertility (pregnancy) also in some cases.
Though the primary causes of PCOS are unexplored, there are many possible causes which eventually lead to such situations and syndromes.
Busy life today instigates us to lead an imperfect life which we all live in and then proudly repent about it too. Our unhealthy food habits and other such habits finally leads us to such syndromes.
Below are some typical basic mistakes which we commit and they possibly are claimed to be leading to PCOS:
Unhealthy Diet : As I told in my earlier blog, we human have habit to complicate simpler things. Nature has given us nutritious food like fruits, vegetables, grains to consume. But today’s craze towards junk and processed food has spoiled it all. The more you process natural foods, the more you are prone to such diseases and health issues.
Lack of physical activity: Our body is designed to be active. If you utilise your energy towards exercise or other physical activities, your digestion process will be appropriate. But we tend to give rest to our body by not exercising and eventually getting to trubles like PCOS.
Not managing weight : Maintaining a normal weight is very crucial to avoid or overcome any disease or disorder. A healthy weight reflects healthy digestive system and hence healthy body.
Medical Treatment and solutions
The first and foremost step is to listen to your body signal. No fatal (leading to death) health situation comes suddenly. Body gives us several signals before a heart attack or any such similar situations. It is we who ignores all those signals leading us into trouble.
Medication- Varied medications are suggested by doctors like birth control pills, insulin regulation pills etc to treat PCOS at initial levels.
Surgery- Surgery can be an option to improve fertility if other treatments don’t work. Ovarian drilling is a procedure that makes tiny holes in the ovary with a laser or thin heated needle to restore normal ovulation.
