How does CBD work?

CBD is a chemical compound contained in the cannabis herbs family. This drug has been shown to have many benefits, including reducing stress and anxiety, relieving pain, acting as an anti-inflammatory, and even acting as an anticonvulsant.

As for how it works, CBD directly enhances the way receptors CBD1 and CBD2 work in our endocannabinoid system, these system’s receptors can be located in various parts of the human body, including the brain, organs, peripheral nervous system, and glands, among others; and their main function is related to homeostasis.

Therapeutic properties of CBD

Currently, the medical use of cannabinoids is approved in many countries. The cases in which cannabinoids have shown some therapeutic activities are mostly neurological disorders and cardiovascular issues. Nevertheless, the CBD compound also proved to help in anxiety, stress, and depression.

Cannabinoids do not have a curative role, but can only contribute to reducing symptoms in cases where the use of available treatment has failed. Below we comment on how the use of CBD can be used therapeutically in different areas.

1.    To alleviate pain

One of the most frequent therapeutic uses of CBD is for pain relief, as this substance has the property of working as an analgesic and anti-inflammatory.

Different studies have been carried out on CBD that explains how it reduces inflammation and pain by suppressing the receptors in charge of transmitting pain in the nervous system with close to no side effects.

2.    To reduce stress and anxiety

CBD stimulates serotonin levels in the brain and also the production of new nerves in the hippocampus, so it directly impacts the change of mood and emotions.

|Among the therapeutic effects that CBD has on stress and anxiety are relaxation and improved perception and memory. This way, the chemical works as an anti-stress and anxiolytic, without affecting the cognitive state of the person, and helps with the processes of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among other related issues.

3.    To fight Insomnia

It has been demonstrated through different studies how CBD can help to improve sleep and even help reduce the risk of suffering insomnia.

Among the therapeutic effects of CBD to alleviate insomnia, we find that it works as a relaxant, sleeping pill, and analgesic. Thus, allowing you to conciliate sleep faster and even enjoy better sleep.

This does not help with insomnia alone but also reduces the risks of stress or psychiatric disorders such as anxiety and depression.

4.    Parkinson’s and other movement disorders

Through different studies and tests, it has been demonstrated that CBD has great therapeutic use in many diseases of the body. One of these diseases in which it has a great impact is Parkinson’s, a chronic neurodegenerative disease.

Among the therapeutic effects that CBD produces in people suffering from this disease we find that it works as a neuroprotective, antipsychotic, helps with the reduction of tremors and nervous tics, improves motor function, among others.

How to use CBD

You can use CBD through different types of products, however, the most common among all is CBD oil, being the best known and easiest to use. The effect takes about fifteen to thirty minutes to appear.

Among other products in which cannabidiol can be found are pills, creams and ointments, sprays, shampoos, teas, or infusions, among others. Depending on the product, it could be used in different ways, for example, oils are applied in the required area, in the case of infusions, they are prepared in a conventional way, among others.

Although cannabidiol is a substance that is still under research in many countries for its legal use, some countries already allow its use in a prudent amount for people.

NOTE: Make sure to consult your doctor before using any CBD product to avoid side-effects.

To Sum Up

CBD has taken great ground in the past few years. Yet, studies and research continue to be conducted to demonstrate the good use of this compound for many other cases due to its impact on the endocannabinoid system with such low chances of side effects. Besides strictly medicinal use, CBD can also be taken for pure relaxation or even used in oils or creams for skincare means.
