A blood test will help to identify a dangerous condition. According to doctors, the more the deficit remains untreated, the higher the chance that the damage will be irreversible.

Experts note that vegetarians and vegans are at higher risk, as B12 is found in large amounts in meat, fish and dairy products. Besides, certain medications, such as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), can worsen the situation.
It has previously been reported that low vitamin B12 levels may be associated with several mental disorders, including depression, memory loss, anxiety, and even schizophrenia. The thing is that the vitamin is involved in the synthesis of neurotransmitters, including dopamine and serotonin.
According to a study published in Neurology International, one of the signs of a vitamin B12 deficiency is involuntary muscle twitching. A lack of vitamin is indicated by a pale yellow skin tone, a painful and red tongue (glossitis), mouth ulcers, tingling in the limbs, blurred vision, irritability and memory impairment.

According to doctors, vitamin B12 deficiency often leads to anaemia, which is essential to treat as soon as possible. “Although many symptoms improve with treatment, some of the problems caused by the disease may be irreversible. The longer the condition remains without treatment, the higher the chance of such consequences,” added the experts.
