If you’re considering a job as a personal trainer, it’s important to get a solid understanding of everything involved before throwing yourself into full force. It may sound like a dream job and you may be looking forward to getting in the best shape of your life and helping others, but many people find that the day-to-day life of a trainer is much harder than it seems.

When you enter this field you have two options. 

  1. You can put half your effort into each training session and struggle to retain clients.
  2. You can put everything you have into each client and keep them coming back for more. The harder you work, the better results your customers will see, and the more loyal they will be to you in return. Finally, the more loyal customers you can win, the more successful you are going to be in the long run. A loyal customer tells a lot about their trainers. 

As a personal trainer, it takes a lot out of you, managing schedules, clients, sessions, and they tell you about their life basically like a psychologist. So it’s not just about the training…its also mentally, to be on a positive and to give a good experience.

Required Knowledge: This is an interesting business for those who take the time to educate themselves about the changing trends in the fitness industry as a whole. There is always place for improvement and learning a new style of training to implement on your clients. 

Personal trainers should be able to respond to their clients when they ask about something new or have other types of questions related to their exercise programs. This requires every trainer to do their homework outside of the gym regularly. 

Physical: Good clients work on their bodies during periods of severe pain or discomfort. They may be sore from the most intense one-on-one sessions, but they still have to get up and go to the next session. 

The best trainers sweat it out with their clients, which is why clients continue to get the results they want.

A large part of this work is mental. People struggling to lose weight or tone up after having children can be extremely emotional, and they will always need to be pushed, encouraged, and motivated to get to that next level. 

The best personal trainers are those who have the passion and communication skills to bond with each client in his way.
