“Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim, and end of human existence” beautiful words by Aristotle. Sometimes our life becomes so hectic that we completely forget about ourselves, self-care is one of those things that are essential, but we often don’t give enough importance to it. A lot of us are oblivious to the fact that our mind and our body are directly linked. Research has shown that a healthy body leads to a healthy mind maintaining a level of physical fitness and a balanced diet is tremendously beneficial to both your physical and mental health. Reformer Pilates is one of the most popular low-impact workout comprised of a series of core exercises that help flatten and tone your mid-section, as well as stabilize and support your spine and back.
What is a Reformer Pilates?
The Reformer was invented by Joseph Pilates, practiced on a bed- like a frame the platform is called the carriage, and the carriage is attached to the end of the Reformer by different weighted spring combinations to create resistance when we move the carriage back and forth by your own body weight and strength. There are also shoulder blocks on the carriage that keep you in a stable position so that you’re not sliding off of the end of the Reformer. There is a footbar and few long straps with handles on them to keep your feet and hand in place; these are at the top of the frame opposite of the footbar.
How does Reformer Pilates work?
Reformer Pilates is all about hindering the negative impact of a desk-bound lifestyle. Altogether it involves using the reformer mechanism to undertake a variety of smooth and controlled movements that challenge your body.
Unlike high-intensity workouts that can put a strain on your muscles or intense yoga practices that overextend your muscles, Reformer Pilates is so safe and low impact that it can be used while recovering from injuries and even during pregnancy. While it involves smooth and plain sailing movements, you will still work up a sweat and gets your heart rate pumping while doing certain exercises on the Reformer.
Is Reformer Pilates right for me?
If you are looking for a form of exercise that has a significant impact on your body but doesn’t require a lot of work to put in, then Reformer Pilates is the ideal choice for you. It strengthens and tones your physique while also relaxing your mind. You will become so concentrated on your movements and your breathing that everything else will naturally melt away. Bringing your body out of its comfort zone and working on something new is a sure way to have a bit of fun and mix up your exercise program! One of the best things about the Reformer is its versatility. There are no restrictions to what stance one should use while exercising; they can be done lying down, sitting, standing, pulling the straps, pushing the footbar, perched on the ?footbar, perched on the shoulder blocks, with additional equipment, upside down, sideways, and all kinds of variations.
