Roblox is set to make its long-awaited debut on PlayStation soon. During the 2023 Roblox Developers Conference (RDC) held on Friday, the company revealed its plans to launch its popular social and gaming app on both PS4 and PS5 in October.
While Roblox has been accessible on various platforms such as PC, Mac, iOS, Android, and Xbox, its absence on Sony's consoles has been noticeable. There were hints that a PlayStation version was in development, including a job listing in 2022 seeking a PlayStation engineer and CEO David Baszucki's suggestion during an August earnings call that the company was exploring options for bringing the app to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.
Roblox assures PlayStation players that they will have access to the "full catalog of Roblox experiences." This implies that users will be able to log into their accounts and enjoy their favorite games once the app becomes available on PS4 and PS5.
Regarding a potential launch on Nintendo Switch, a company spokesperson stated, "We want Roblox to be on all devices, anywhere around the world. At this time, we currently have no immediate plans to make Roblox available on the Nintendo Switch." However, during the RDC event, Baszucki strongly hinted that Roblox would be expanding to more platforms, suggesting that there are more announcements to come.
Additionally, the company announced that the Meta Quest Roblox app will be widely accessible in September, following its open beta release in July, which garnered over a million installations in its first five days. Furthermore, Roblox users on Xbox can expect improvements in their app's user experience, along with regular updates.
