Gully Boy Is India’s Official Entry To Oscars & We Got No Chills

Gully Boy is India’s official entry to the 92nd Oscar awards. The Zoya Akhtar’s directorial was a massive commercial hit as well as highly appreciated by the critiques.

The movie had Ranveer Singh & Alia Bhatt in lead roles and was one of the highest-grossing films of 2019 worldwide. Gully Boy in past received acknowledgement at various platforms across the world. The film won NETPAC Award for Best Asian Film at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, South Korea and Best Film at the Indian Festival of Melbourne in August this year.

Based on the life of Indian Rappers Divine and Naezy, the film shows the underground Hip-Hop culture in India. The struggles of people living in slums and the lack of opportunities is shown beautifully in the film. While Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt were highly appreciated for the portrayal of their characters in the film along with Vijay Raj and Siddhant Chaturvedi.

The selection process was held in Kolkata where Jury picked Gully Boy as official nominations. The film beat movies like Super Deluxe, Article 15 and Pahuna, which were among the 28 films in contention for its entry in the 92nd Academy Awards.

While expressing his gratitude Ranveer Singh spoke “It’s a proud moment for our entire team. I’m especially proud of and happy for Zoya! — Gully Boy is her baby, and I am blessed to have been a part of her maverick vision. “

He also added “Gully Boy echoed the voice of the streets. It will always be one of my most personal films. As always, I will keep striving towards making the flag of Hindi cinema fly high. I’m very happy that the passionate hard work that our cast and crew put into creating Gully Boy is reaping rewards”

Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt in a statement said the movie deserves to be in Top 5 nominations and further win the gold at Oscars. Zoya Akhtar can’t keep her feet on the ground and is elated. In a recent interview, she said “This has been a great year and I am so overwhelmed with the response our work is getting. I am thrilled and very grateful that ‘Gully Boy’ has been picked as India’s official entry for the Oscars.”
