Birla Institute of Technology and Science, also known as BITS Pilani, is a private, Deemed-to-be university located in Pilani, Rajasthan, and is backed by the Aditya Birla Group.
The primary focus of this institute is higher education in Science and Engineering.
It is the first international deemed university, with three campuses in India and one in Dubai. It has a total of 15 academic departments. Pilani campus was established in 1964.
Ghanashyam Das Birla, a member of the Birla family and a famous businessman, played a vital role in the institutes transformation to a national university from a regional engineering college.
Over the years, the university has expanded its campus to Hyderabad, Goa, and Dubai. With its alumni spread worldwide, in all the major fields and companies, BITS Pilani created a huge impact on corporates, academia, research, entrepreneurship, arts, and social activism.
This institute is one of the six institutes in India to be awarded the IoE (Institute of Excellence) status. Admissions into any of the four campuses are based on the entrance test (BITSAT) conducted by BITS themselves.
The campus is spread over an area of 328-acres and has all the necessary facilities. Research and development is an important aspect and made it an integral part of their higher education ecosystem.
The Centre for Material Science & Technology, Embedded Controller Application Centre, and Centre for Robotics and Intelligent System are many research centres established on the campus. This campus has also established Indias first technological museum in 1954, within the campus.
BITS Pilani offers various programs at graduation (First degree), post-graduation (MS degree), Research (doctoral degrees) levels. It also offers off-campus programs, where students receive work experience in the industry. UG degrees are offered in engineering, technology, and pharmacy. PG degrees are offered in engineering, pharmacy, public health, and business administration.
Doctoral degrees are offered in engineering, pharmacy, natural science, public health, and business administration.
Admission Process
Till 2005, admissions were based on the candidates score in 10+2, where candidates with higher scores used to get admissions. But from 2005, BITS started conducting a national-level entrance test called the Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test (BITSAT).
BITSAT is almost as popular as IIT-JEE. But BITSAT provides admission only into Hyderabad, Goa, and Pilani campuses. Admissions into the Dubai campus are based on a 10+2 standard qualifying exam.

The application process for BITS Pilani is fully online. The candidate needs to fill the application form on the official website, upload the required documents, and submit the application form along with the application fee.
Candidates who have satisfied the eligibility criteria are called for counselling, where candidates go through a further selection process of written test, personal interview, and group discussion depending on the course they have selected.
Candidates who have cleared the counselling round are offered admissions – candidates who are offered admission need to pay the BITS Pilani Fees according to the fee structure.
