The United States of America ranks third among the largest countries in the world in terms of land area. For a country that spans six different time zones, it is not surprising to find even more astounding destinations, either natural or man-made.

From the Grand Canyon to the Statue of Liberty, The Land of the Free definitely has it all. For your next adventure, make sure to tick off some of the bucket list things you definitely must do in America.

1.  Conquer the Grand Canyon

This massive chasm carved by the legendary Colorado River is not called the Grand Canyon for nothing. Going about a mile deep and extending about 300 miles, this natural wonder is the crowning glory of the state of Arizona and is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Most tourists come from far and wide to attempt to conquer the Grand Canyon. While some get their adrenaline rush by simply hiking the length of the canyon, others take it a step higher by attempting to climb its sides. The majority of the Canyon is not suitable for rock climbing because of soft earth, but it did little in stopping adrenaline junkies in identifying areas for this physically taxing activity. You can now find designated areas for rock climbing, now renowned and recognized as among the best rock climbing spots in USA.

2. Drop by the Iconic Hollywood Sign

The Land of Dreams, where the brightest stars shine, has been featured in countless movies, TV shows, and even books and music videos. Should you happen to be in California, it’s near-impossible to miss this place thanks to its 45-foot-tall sign screaming Hollywood to all its citizens and visitors.

A number of guided hiking tours will take you up close and personal with the famous Hollywood Sign. The tours usually take anywhere from thirty minutes to a little over an hour from the base, depending on which of the three routes you take. Watch as you meander along the trails of the Santa Monica mountains. However, the western side of Griffith Park will take you as close as possible to the sign while the longest trail will reward you with a breezy mountaintop facing DOOWYLLOH sign.

3. Relive History and Enjoy Culture at The Country’s Capital

One of the most visited places in all of the USA is Washington DC, the country’s seat of power, and with good reason. Rich in historical significance and in the vibrant culture, tourists can never get enough of its museums, as well as its neighborhoods.

The centerpiece of Washington DC has to be the White House, where no less than the President of the United States of America resides. Being regularly featured in books and shows, you would think you already know what’s inside this landmark, that is until you take one of the guided day-tours and see the treasures and curiosities housed within. Other than the White House, you can also visit the United States Capitol building and afterward visit war memorials for World War II and Korean War veterans.

Lastly, have fun as you learn through the capital’s museums and even the National Zoo. Most of the museums there, such as the National Gallery of Art and National Museum of American History, are being curated and managed by the Smithsonian Institution. Aside from the rich exhibits, waves after waves of tourists are drawn to these destinations because they are free.

4. Live in the City That Never Sleeps

New York City having been baptized as the city that never sleeps speaks volumes about how busy the place must be. However, it is not all work and no play as New York City is a surprisingly fun city to visit.

Get lost in the flowing and the ebbing tide of humans in the middle of Times Square or walk the length of its avenues filled with the top clothing lines. For some, NYC’s status as a world’s fashion capital – boasting some 5,000 showrooms and hosts more fashion brand headquarters than any other city. Aside from fashion, NYC also boasts being a global center in terms of theater. The popular Broadway is located in the city’s Midtown Manhattan.

Lastly, make sure to stroll around The High Line, a repurpose for an abandoned section of the New York Central Railroad. What used to be a withering concrete railway is now an elevated park filled with greenery, including dedicated lanes for pedestrians and bikers.

5. Visit the Tropical Paradise That Is Maui

The second-largest island in Hawaii is the perfect vacation for tourists looking for an intimate experience with nature. Tick off your sunrise and sunset related bucket list entries with a hike to Maui’s highest peak. At the Haleakala National Park, you can take a hike on either dawn or dusk, or both, up to its peak. The summit of Haleakala gives you a breathtaking vantage point of the sea and the horizon – even the name literally means “House of the Sun.”

Even the road going to and from Haleakala is a tourist destination in itself. Hana Highway is filled with stops ideal for the Instagram-worthy picture. For your memorable road trip experience requirements, the highway is filled with sharp turns as well as gentle ascents and descents as you traverse the 64-mile long road winding between the mountainside and the ocean.

Truly, the United States is a melting pot not only of cultures but of almost every type of tourist destination – from the glaciers of Alaska to the blazing deserts of Arizona. The Land of the Free is sure to have something up its sleeve to cater to every kind of traveler there is.

The five destinations above are but the tip of the iceberg in experiencing the wonders of USA. Make sure to get those bucket list entries sorted out and if you are looking for the perfect place to start checking them out, searching no further than the United States is virtually the safest bet any traveler can look for.

London! Truly one of the greatest cities on this planet. The diverse atmosphere, coupled with the long and rich history of England, makes this a must-visit destination for any lifetime.

For those who have just considered visiting London and would like to know a few things they can do and a few places they can visit, then you are in luck.

In this article, we have taken the liberty to outline a few places that you can visit and things you can do to have as much fun in London as you can. Of course, there can be plenty more, but to list just the main points it’s a good way to go.

What To See and Do In London

1 – British Museum

Hitting off the list is the British Museum. If you are traveling with your family and would like this trip to be not only fun and exciting but also educational, then look no further than the British Museum.

Home to a myriad of sculptures, artifacts, and MILLENIA of history all packaged and stowed away in the museum. It’s been built quite long ago – we could say. Precisely, in 1753, by Sir Hans Sloane. During the long history of the United Kingdom, when the empire was gathering historical pieces from all over the world, the British Museum collection kept enlarging more and more, making nowadays one of the richest museums on the planet.

Your kids will be both entertained and educated a the same time.

Indeed a win-win for any parents.

2 – Buckingham Palace

What type of England trip would it be if you didn’t happen to visit the famed and perhaps, dare I say, MAIN ATTRACTION of London, the Buckingham Palace?

This would be like going to Washington, D.C, and not visiting the White House.

If you are visiting London, then this is a MUST place to visit. Maybe, by just looking at it, you could feel a warm breath of royalty coming towards you and immediately make you feel like a noble prince, or maybe the next king (despite Queen Elizabeth would have something to say about that…).

3 – Piccadilly Circus

Yet another fun place for the family to visits. London is how to a variety of family-friendly places, and the Piccadilly Circus is easily one of the most exciting places to take your kids.

Especially after the Museum (although this is not a jab at the Museum).

Fun rides. Fun clowns. Fun atmosphere. This truly is going to be the highlight of your London vacation for your kids.

4 – London Pubs

Now, to visit a place strictly for the adults. London is home to a variety of GREAT PUBS. If you are looking to have a beautiful night out and to mingle with your friends and family, then visiting a few of London’s famed pubs can really light up your night.

To learn more about London pubs, join a typical pub crawl in London with the link provided.

5 – West End Theatre District

Lastly, on our list is the West End Theatre. Much like visiting New York and going to Broadway, so too is visiting London and heading out to the West End Theatre.

If you are into the arts, then this is truly a must-visit destination.

We Hope You Enjoy Your Visit

London is home to so much history and culture. If you are planning on visiting this beautiful city thaw home, the things we have listed to do will help to add more value to your vacation away.

So what to wait for? Go and have a happy and safe journey.

If you are still not convinced that Romania’s natural wonders are worth visiting, you should also know that the country is home to no less than eight spectacular World Heritage Sites. Romania is home to the Dacian fortresses of the Orastie Mountains, the historic center of Sighisoara, and the painted churches of Moldavia. Moreover, the country also has the biggest wetland in Europe, the Danube Delta, which is a major stopping point for migratory birds.

When it comes to its spectacular wildlife, you should know that Romania is one of the best European destinations for wildlife watching where you can observe not only large mammals but also multiple bird species. In Romania, you can find the largest population of brown bears in Europe, but also many other animal species such from lynx to badgers, wolves, deer, and more.

2. Old castles and churches

If you are passionate about history, you must know that Romania is deeply saturated with it. From magnificent castles to picturesque fortified churches, medieval architecture is everywhere.

Perhaps the most famous castle in Romania is Bran Castle, also known as Dracula’s Castle. However, other medieval castles around the country such as Peles Castle, the citadel of Alba Iulia, or the Corvin Castle are equally as spectacular and unique.

If you want to take a trip back in history to the Middle Ages, all you have to do is to visit the towns and villages across Maramures and you will be amazed by the incredibly well-preserved medieval architecture and atmosphere. Brasov is another medieval city in Romania that is definitely worth a visit! Located in the famous region Transylvania, this medieval town has a magic of its own with many cobbled streets and colorful townhouses. Look for day trips from Brasov if you want to visit other famous sights such as Bran (Dracula) Castle, Sighisoara Citadel or go hiking in the Carpathian Mountains!

Thanks to its massively rich medieval history, the country is saturated with unique architecture, castles, towers, fortified churches, and cultural diversity that will take you back in time.

3. Rich culture and traditions

Perhaps one of the most attractive aspects of Romania for foreign tourists is its rich culture and spectacular traditions. From folk costumes, unique Christian Christmas and Easter traditions, the popular culture’s fantasy images of Dracula, and different traditions to attract love and good fortune, Romanian customs and culture are what bring a touch of magic and poor color into Romanians’ everyday lives.

Most Romanian traditions and customs revolve around special events such as births, weddings, deaths, and holidays. Other traditions are connected to the succession of the seasons or rituals that have a mystical background in the Romanian culture. What makes most of the customs and traditions so special is the fact that they are designed to gather the whole community together to take part in.

What’s even more interesting about the Romanian culture and traditions is that each region of the country showcases different customs passed down from generation to generation. For example, Maramures, Bucovina, and Ardeal are the most popular regions in Romania for their customs that give foreign and Romanian tourists a truly authentic experience of the country’s culture.

4. Romanian cuisine is mouth-watering

If you are a food lover, you must definitely try the most popular Romanian dishes! There is such a richness in terms of traditional cuisine that your senses will be absolutely delighted by the amazing and intense flavors. Romanian dishes are neither too spicy, nor too complicated but they taste like something so familiar yet something you have never tried before, at the same time.

Romanian dishes bring together a mix of tasty ingredients and reinterpreted recipes from Balkan, Turkish, Serbian, German, and Hungarian cuisines. Most dishes are mostly based on pork meat and vegetables, and heavily use garlic!

Among the most popular traditional Romanian dishes you can find Sarmale (Cabbage rolls), Mamaliga (Polenta), Mici (Grilled minced meat rolls, also known by the locals as “mititei”), Jumari (smoked bacon and greaves), and Drob de miel (Lamb drob).

The Romanian cuisine also includes multiple delicious dessert recipes such as Papanasi (Fried doughnuts with sour cream and jam) or Cozonac (Sweetbread).

If you are a vegetarian, fear not, Romania has the tastiest and healthiest vegetables and fruits to offer which make for the best plant-based dishes.

5. It’s affordable

Last but not least, one of the biggest advantages of being a traveler in Romania is the fact that you can enjoy this country on a relatively low budget. Compared to other European countries, Romania offers a spectacular travel experience for very low costs.

Both food and hotel prices are low compared to other destinations. Moreover, admission fees for castles, museums or other touristic attractions are very reasonable, so you won’t feel like you need to skip out any of the sights you want to see.

Romania is a fascinating amalgamation of medieval charm and modern lifestyle. It is a magnificent destination that will offer you some of the best traveling experiences. Don’t wait too long before you visit Romania because the secret of this country’s beauty will soon enough not be a secret anymore.

Iceland is one of the most beautiful countries, and trips to Iceland have become very popular among travelers around the world. It’s the land of mythical glaciers, incredible waterfalls, northern lights, supernatural hiking trails, active volcanoes, and one of the least budget-friendly countries of the world. It is true that touring Iceland, you will be paying a little more for exotic food like a fermented shark or even ordinary meal, but don’t let that stop you from traveling to this amazing country. There are plenty of amazing experiences you can get in Iceland on a budget or even free. Actually Iceland sightseeing can be entirely FREE. The country’s natural beauty – countless waterfalls, hiking trails, hot springs, and mountains are free for you to enjoy.  Iceland trips are not necessarily over costly. With proper planning and tips from experts, you definitely can travel to Iceland on a budget.

Tip one: plan your trip in advance.

It is crucial to find the best time to travel. The busiest and most expensive time to go to Iceland is summer months. The most expensive season in Iceland is from mid-June to the end of August. All services, including hotels, car rental, museums are often more expensive during this period.

However, if you are flexible in when you travel, consider traveling outside this high season. Avoid July and August. Off-season not only prices are friendlier, but you will also avoid the most crowded time in Iceland. If you still want to travel when it is relatively warm, late May, early June, or September.

And of course, plan how much you can spend and try to stick to your budget.

Tip two: drive in the fall.

In October, the bulk of the tourists has left, and you will rent a car a bit cheaper have the roads to yourself. The days can still be sunny with beautiful morning and evening light. It can be chilly though, so do not forget warm clothes and stay up to date with weather and road conditions.

Tip three: travel with the company.

Traveling with the company of friends is always cheaper than solo traveling. Sharing a hotel room, renting one car for 3 or 4 is way less expensive. And it is fun to spend time in a good company.

Tip four: Rent a car.

Renting a car in Iceland is one of the best ways to explore this fantastic country, and it is cheaper if you are traveling in a company of 3 or 4.  Having your own car gave the freedom to travel far from the crowds, make the stops when you want, pack your favorite snacks which can be bought at supermarkets for half than you would pay in bars and restaurants.

Tip five: Take practical and comfortable clothes

Do not bring fancy and stylish clothes to Iceland. It is all about practicality! A long-sleeved fleece or wool sweater, or a down jacket are good options, as well as insulated hiking pants in winter and simple softshell pants in summer.

Tip six: Buy food at supermarkets and drink tap water.

In supermarkets, food is at least half the price you will be paying at tourist places. Do not buy bottled water as tap water is of excellent quality everywhere you go. Make sure you have a refillable bottle as you will find taps with the signs encouraging to fill up your bottles.

Tip eight: Rent homes or apartments.

Hotels can be costly, especially if you travel on a very tight budget. Online you will find homes and apartments for rent. Do not hesitate to book the apartment or home you think is suitable for your needs as it will soon be booked by someone else.

Tip nine: Humble yourself that you won’t be able to see everything.

Iceland has it all —unbelievable landscapes with ice-capped mountains, active volcanoes, dramatic cliffs, awe-inspiring waterfalls, black sand beaches, incredible glaciers, and unique wildlife. It’s full of adventure and photographic dreams. But be realistic. You won’t be able to see and experience it all in one trip. Ask yourself what your priorities are and design an itinerary that covers your highlights and leave the rest for the future trips.

No matter on what budget or whatever time of the year you will travel, Iceland’s raw beauty is simply mind-blowing.

Go for the taste of the adventure that can be found in the Country of Volcanoes!

Sicily, the largest Italian island and region of immense beauty, is an undisputed jewel in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. What Sicily has to offer goes beyond history, which we strongly advise you to consult at. Still, it is also a land where luxury villas in Sicily for rent and refinement meet, creating experiences that meet the needs of any traveler, even the most demanding.

NOT ONLY MONUMENTS: FOOD AND WINE, UNDISPUTED PROTAGONISTS

In Sicily, to make your holiday unforgettable, you will not only find the monuments and the uncontaminated sea. Magnificent luxury villas with swimming pool, a breathtaking view of the coast, the scent and taste of typical regional foods such as Cassata Siciliana, arancino, fish couscous, accompanied by fine wines such as Marsala or Moscato di Siracusa will involve all your senses. Sight, smell, taste, hearing, and touch. Your senses will be stimulated like never before.

Whether you are in the millenary Taormina where you can taste the typical caponata or the famous pasta alla norma (which is a dish of pasta where the ingredients symbolize the colors of the volcano Etna), in Palermo where you can taste the highest Italian pastry (of which we recommend the Sicilian cassatella, fried doughnuts Palermo, fruit Martorana), or in Marsala to sip the homonymous DOC wine known and exported all over the world, rest assured that you are in the right place: in the center of the Mediterranean, in one of the oldest and richest cultural areas in the world.

PALERMO, A MASTERPIECE OF BAROQUE AND TIMELESS ARCHITECTURE

The luxury and history of Sicily also passes through its capital, Palermo, which is a masterpiece of Baroque architecture and art. The city, known for being the birthplace of famous actors such as Lando Buzzanca or Italian heroes such as judge Paolo Borsellino, has also been inhabited by architects of incredible taste and talent such as Girolamo Bagnasco and Giovan Battista Filippo Basile who have deeply inspired and contaminated monuments and public works. The Church of the Santissimo Salvatore, the Church of Santa Maria di Monte Oliveto, the Church of the Conception, the Church of San Gioacchino, the Church of San Domenico and the Church of Santa Maria di Valverde are the six most essential and vital churches of the incredible art of Palermo, which has merged elements of visual richness, precious materials and stylistic taste to create monuments of the highest historical and cultural value.

THE THEATRE: THE WORLD ART PASSED FROM SICILY

Whether we are talking about antiquity or the contemporary period, Sicily has always been the most fabulous protagonist of the world theatre. Throughout the vast territory of Sicily, there are hundreds of theatres that have crossed every era: Greek, Roman, modern, and contemporary. It would be impossible to mention all of them, one by one, the theatres in Sicily, but we will suggest the most famous theatres that can be visited today because we promise you, they will give you emotions and experiences that you can hardly live elsewhere.

In Palermo, it is impossible not to mention the Teatro al Massimo, also known as Cineteatro Massimo, which takes its name from the place where the Teatro Massimo is also located. It started its activity in 1992 and is currently a destination that counts more than two hundred thousand spectators every year.

Theatres of equal fame and fortune can also be found in Catania, Avola, Ad Arcireale, Ragusa, Marsala, and Messina, as well as in hundreds of other towns within Sicily.

Standing young woman with backpack and mountains

Backpacking and travelling to new places let you escape your hectic daily schedule and fill you with the much-needed adrenaline? Decided to leave the comfort of your home with just a few necessities to survive? Not sure what to pack?

To determine what you need depends upon the length of your stay and the destination. Although some things must always be a part of your packing checklist for the best experience. Below is the list of everything you would need for your backpacking trip in 2020.

  1. Cabin Style Tent – Wish to feel like home in the wilderness? Take a cabin style tent along wherever your adventure takes you and sleep in a cosy room like environment. Modern cabin style tents are easy to assemble and make, come with dividers that take care of privacy (in case you are travelling in a group), have windows for proper ventilation, and have zippered doors for security purposes.

  2.  Packing Pouches/Cubes – Backpacks do not usually have compartments, and it becomes tough to manage everything without them. If you’re a person who likes to keep everything organised while backpacking, packing cubes are great to make temporary compartments for all your essentials, for example, you can use small cubes for your socks and underwear, while medium to large pouches can comfortably accommodate your clothes for the entire trip.

  3. Navigation Equipment – Our world revolves around our smartphones, but going into the wilderness can mean that you won’t find a stable internet connection. It is then time to put your smartphone to rest and use the old school navigation equipment like the compass, maps, and a personal location beacon (to send your location in case of an emergency). These tools will make sure that you do not get lost and easily find your way.

  4. Power Bank – Bloggers use their smartphones more than usual, but it doesn’t mean that you won’t run out of battery (smartphones are power-hungry). It is always a good idea to be on the safe side in the woods and other remote locations; always keep a power bank in your backpack.

  5. Pocket Blanket – Heading towards the hills but wish to pack light? A pocket blanket is what you need. It can easily accommodate two adults and fits in your pocket when not in use – a must-have for all the outdoor adventures one can imagine.

  6. Tactical Pants – Another great way to ensure that you pack light is by keeping a pair of multi-purpose tactical pants like the 5.11 Strykr Pants. They will help you keep all the necessary items within a hand’s reach, be extremely comfortable while challenging hikes, and make a style statement when backpacking through the city.

  7. Toiletry Bag – Most backpackers know that staying in hostels is the best way to explore a city on a budget. Staying in hostels also means that the bathrooms will be shared and will lack the necessary storage space for your toiletries. You cannot just put all your toiletries in any bag, purchase a unique toiletry bag (with compartments) to keep all your toiletries and clothes organised.

Please note: Your Toiletry Bag should come with a hook so that you can easily hang it while you shower.

  8. Microfiber Towel – Backpackers are forced to pack a hand-towel because of space constraints, but not anymore. A Microfiber towel is light, takes less space, and dries up quickly – making it an essential must-have for every backpacker.

9. Extra Water – It is good not to carry anything extra while backpacking, but it is also necessary to keep yourself hydrated while on the go. Most backpacking locations can be remote where finding clean drinking water will not be easy. Always keep some extra water in your backpack.

And Finally

Going to remote locations might sound fun, but it is not an easy task. It would be best if you choose what to carry and what not to. The things mentioned above will be more than sufficient for all the travelling adventures that you’re planning in 2020.

An hiking backpack and hiking pole leaning on a tree

Winter comes and with it the best time to do certain types of trails, such as mountains. The weather is drier, the risk of thunderstorms is lower and the snakes do not look so much on the trails. All great and ensuring more safety to the rider except, of course, for the risks involving the cold. With temperatures that can easily fall below freezing in the country’s summits and mountains, it is essential to be careful and respect the limits, yours and nature. So here is a list of tips for hiking and winter hiking.

Before we go to them, it is worth remembering the most important tip, valid for all trails: never, never leave trash in the wild . Always take away anything you carry with you.

Check the weather forecast and be prepared

First of all, check out the weather forecast. This is an especially important rule for winter hiking. Only then will you be able to prepare properly.

Also, take into account the terrain, altitude and common weather patterns in the region. If you go to a mountain, for example, the temperature on the summit is sure to be significantly lower than the base town. Similarly, cold air tends to be very concentrated in valley regions, also increasing the chance of frost.

With the information in hand, it’s time to do the proper planning. If your trail includes a camping stop, that data will be even more critical. You’ll need them to know even if your sleeping bag and thermal insulation can withstand the expected temperatures. And finally, don’t forget to let someone know about your itinerary and the expected return date.

Dress in layers & avoid cotton clothes

Another important caution when hiking in winter is to wear the most appropriate clothing. Instead of wearing a single heavy, warm coat, choose to dress in “layers”. For this, it is usually used three pieces of breathable fabrics. This makes it easier to take or place any parts and adjust to the temperature along the walk. This way you don’t get too hot and don’t sweat so much, which is critical to staying dry along the way.

Also, avoid cotton, which is heavy and takes time to dry. This is true even for socks, which ideally should be of some breathable, synthetic or wool material. Excessive moisture in the tissue can freeze the body and lead to hypothermia, so take this advice seriously.

If you have warmed up while hiking in the cold and are already sweating, you need to release some heat from your body. For this, it is not always necessary to remove an entire layer. Sometimes it is enough to unzip the front or underarm, very common in some windbreaker jackets.

Wear a hat or hat and don’t forget the sunscreen

It may not seem like it, but we lose an immense amount of heat through our heads. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that our brain is responsible for consuming up to one third of body energy. However, when hiking in winter it is important to keep your head always covered. This helps maintain body functions and warmth. A hat or cap may suffice, but on colder days or during rest periods it is worth wearing a hat. This is a basic tip that was very well remembered by the American Hiking Society.

Also, don’t forget the sunscreen. It is not because it is cold that we can put this caution aside. UV rays continue to work, even if we don’t feel the same way as in summer. In addition to being uncomfortable, sunburn can put you in a frame of simply not being able to continue walking. If you are going to another country and want to walk in a snowy region, caution must be taken, as the sun’s rays will be reflected by the snow.

Even though the risk of tissue freezing is low, moderate cold can burn and crack exposed skin. Remember to wear gloves and carry items such as cocoa butter and panthenol ointments to protect your lips and skin.

Navigation and communication

In winter, you may see everything covered by snow, so it is even harder to tell directions. Therefore, you should learn how to navigate yourself in snow when the sun, moon, and stars are completely hidden from view.

In that case, you can carry a compass or personal GPS tracker for you and your friends because your phone may be out of cell service coverage. A compass is good if you know how to use it with a map.

If you prefer a GPS tracker, I recommend GoFindMe GPS tracker. With 3 built-in offline maps, it can always keep you on the right trail and lead your way home. Besides, It allows you to share real-time location on the phone app even when there’s no cellular service. If you encounter an emergency, you can send SOS signals to others without cell service.

The battery lasts as long as 72 hours, and the tracking range can reach up to 5 kilometers. Besides, there’ s no monthly subscription fee for this tracking device. moreover, it can be used as a car GPS tracker, which is added value.

Remember to eat and drink lots of warm water

It is common in cold weather not to feel like eating or drinking water. However, neglecting diet and hydration when exercising and hiking in winter is a fatal mistake.

In fact, dehydration makes us even more susceptible to hypothermia. In addition, winter tends to be accompanied by drier air, which makes hydration even more important. Even if you are not sweating so much, drink plenty of water.

If your destination is overseas and includes sub-zero temperatures, keep in mind that your water may freeze. Remember that you cannot directly eat snow because it will cause low temperature and even Hypothermia, a medical emergency that occurs when your body temperature is below 35 C. So take it in a thermos or pack your regular bottle in a wool sock.

Be prepared for shorter days and carry safety gear

As in summer, hiking in winter is best when walking while there is daylight. Especially in the south of the country, temperatures drop dramatically as the sun goes down. To help, days are shorter, so take this detail into account in your planning.

Go with more experienced people and know your limits

Especially in cold weather, when the risk of hypothermia is higher, it is ideal to go hiking accompanied by experienced people. After all, nobody wants to get lost, especially when the risk is to spend one or more freezing nights in the open.

Besides having the help of more experienced colleagues, always take care of your safety and learn as much as possible. This includes knowing the region, knowing how to use a GPS, a map and a compass and making sure you are prepared for that trail. Respect yourself and always know your own limits.

Also, make short stops with your group. Very long stops in winter make you even more susceptible to cold. One more reason, by the way, to know your limits and be sure of your fitness to complete the trail. If you need to stop longer, remember to put on or replace a layer of clothing to keep warm until you walk again.

Dusk over Budva town and bay

You don’t know what you have … until you sleep in the first hostel that crosses your path. It may seem silly, but traveling like that, with fairness, makes you much more aware of what things are worth. You can’t imagine what a room or a private bathroom means to me now.

That’s why I like these trips, because they make me start again, reassess. Reflections of our days in the bay of Lan Ha. The last time we talked we had just spent a few days in Hanoi, the surprisingly pleasant capital of Vietnam. Our stay in Hanoi left us wanting more, but the adventure must continue and I was going to do it in the best direction.

If you are planning a trip to Vietnam, I am sure you will plan to spend a few days in Halong Bay. How could it be otherwise, we also marked that destination on our map and to carry it out we contacted a travel agency located in the Asian country.

Do you want to organize your trip to the bay? Let’s talk by email!

It was they who proposed us to visit Lan Ha Bay to the detriment of the well-known Halong Bay. The reason: Lan Ha is a place just as wonderful as Halong but infinitely less exploited. Of course, great advice if you travel to Vietnam. But we go in parts.

How to go to Lan Ha Bay on your own

At first, you must deal with the best Lan Ha Bay Cruises. Although to fully enjoy Lan Ha Bay (and / or Halong) it is more than advisable to do so with a good agency, it is a perfectly executable route on your own. To do this, everything takes a train from Hanoi to the city of Hai Phong, a journey of just over 2 hours whose price is around 4 dollars (70,000 dongs). Once in Hai Phong, take a taxi from the train station to the port of Ben Binh, or walk this route (they are a couple of kilometers). From this port different boats leave for Cat Ba, among them a speedboat that leaves you in that population in just 45 minutes and whose price is about 8-9 dollars (180 thousand dongs). You can catch this boat at 7AM, 9AM, 1PM or 3PM.

Cat Ba is the largest island in the immense archipelago of the same name, in the middle of Halong Bay, and from there depart several ships that travel this or Lan Ha. Smaller, larger, simpler, more luxurious, day or of several days. My advice is that, at a minimum, you make a two-day and one-night cruise, although if you could do another day and sleep one of those nights on one of the islands of the archipelago it would be perfect.

My second recommendation is that, even if you do it on your own, do not skimp on expenses since, in both Halong Bay and Lan Ha, there is a lot of difference in quality between a simple and a good cruise. For 280-300 dollars you can spend the night in the Halong Glory Cruise, four stars and very well valued.

Now that I have explained how to go to the bay on your own, I insist that hiring an agency tour in this place in Vietnam is a great option. You’d better find a travel agent online who usually offer the best deals of Lan Ha Bay Cruises and help you plan your trip ahead of time.
