The pristine, clear blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea offer some of the finest yachting opportunities in the world. From Monaco to Ibiza to Dubrovnik, the Mediterranean is a playground where the elite go to be seen by the wealthy and not the paparazzi.

Whether showing off their latest custom super yacht, on a trip looking at prime property, sunbathing on their luxury motor yacht, or simply blowing off steam on vacation, the Mediterranean is a top yachting destination for the wealthy, famous, and, perhaps, infamous.

Naturally, the area boasts some of the world’s most beautiful, exclusive, state-of-the-art marinas. Here’s a geographically diverse look at some of the best facilities around the gorgeous Mediterranean.

Marina Grande, Capri
One of the most expensive marinas in the world, Marina Grande on the island of Capri is also one of the most picturesque, nestled among magnificent cliffs and quaint, colorful buildings. The marina features 300 berths and can accommodate super yachts up to 60 meters (197 feet). The surrounding luxury hotels and restaurants boast some of the most breathtaking views in the world.

Port Adriano, Mallorca, Spain
Port Adriano is the perfect gateway to exploring Mallorca’s beautiful coast. This Philippe Starck-designed marina is very super-yacht-friendly, featuring 488 moorings for vessels between 6-80 meters (20-262 feet). It’s an ideal spot for the young and trendy as well as for families with young children, with plenty of water activities, luxury shopping, art galleries, boutiques, nautical shops, and even performances by A-list performers such as Tom Jones and George Benson. The five-star Pure Salt Port Adriano hotel offers exquisite accommodations.

Ibiza Magna, Ibiza

Located on the southeast side of Ibiza, one of the Balearic Islands, Ibiza Magna is an exclusive, prestigious tourist port perfectly located right in the city center of Dalt Vila and is ideal for super yachts – it features 85 berths for yachts up to 60 meters (197 feet) in length and 10-meter (33 feet) drafts.

There’s plenty to indulge in, including exploring Ibiza’s remarkable beaches, enjoying the contemporary art and archeological museums, and strolling the historic streets of Dalt Vila, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Marina Miraggio, Greece

In addition to its stunning beauty and perfect location on the southwestern side of the Kassandra peninsula near Halkidiki, Marina Miraggio is one of Greece’s most technologically advanced marine projects. Already, it’s been awarded with the Golden Greek Hospitality Award 2017 and the European Union’s Blue Flag 2017 and 2018. Marina Miraggio can accommodate 81 yachts up to 40 meters (131 feet) and also has one of the longest quays in Greece at 110 meters (361 feet).

ACI Marina Dubrovnik, Croatia

This award-winning marina is located in Dalmatia, one of the four historical regions of Croatia, set among the beautifully rugged Dinaric Mountains in the foothills of Srd hill. Situated at a UNESCO World Heritage Site 3.5 miles from the center of Dubrovnik, this marina is famous for its cleanliness and has been awarded the Blue Flag 15 years in a row for its perfectly clean sea. ACI Marina Dubrovnik features 380 berths and 140 dry berths and can accommodate mega yachts up to 60 meters (197 feet) long. The coastal area of the Dubrovnik region, including the islands of Korčula, Mljet, Lastovo, and the Elaphite archipelago, and the Pelješac peninsula, makes it an ideal starting point for a boating adventure unlike any other.

Port de Saint Tropez, France

A legendary location deserves a legendary marina. Located in the illustrious French Riviera, Port de Saint Tropez is one of the most famous marinas in the world. The marina features 734 moorings divided between two basins spread over more than 22 acres in the heart of the village – prime Riviera real estate. This celebrity-rich destination offers luxury shops, restaurants, bars, and clubs, while still managing to maintain its charm and social and cultural diversity. Port de Saint Tropez can accommodate super yachts up to 70 meters (230 feet); if needed, bigger yachts can anchor farther out to sea. Experience the magnificent Pampelonne beach and experience the iconic nightlife.

Karpaz Gate Marina, Karpaz

To the northeast of North Cyprus lies Karpaz, known as the ‘Panhandle’, or Karpas Peninsula. Here you’ll find one of the most unspoiled places anywhere in the whole of the Mediterranean region as well as the award-winning Karpaz Gate Marina, one of the more recent to be built in the Mediterranean. It features-state-of-the-art docks and is perfect for enjoying the sights and sounds of North Cyprus’ coastline and exploring the less traveled areas of the East Mediterranean. Winner of The Yacht Harbour Association’s (TYHA) International Marina of the Year award in 2017 (and runner up in 2018 and 2019), Karpaz Gate Marina was the first international standard marina in North Cyprus and the only marina on the island with the highest Five Gold Anchor rating.

You won’t go wrong with any of these marinas and each provides unique opportunities to explore the myriad wonderous destinations of the Mediterranean. Just be sure to book well in advance or risk missing out. These places typically fill up fast, particularly during their respective high seasons.

Happy cruising!

The festive season is almost here. We are all anticipating that moment when we will be opening our mailboxes to find holiday photo cards full of best wishes from friends are family. Those who enjoy this tradition are also thinking of starting to get their cards ready.

If you have never sent out a holiday card before, you should start thinking of surprising your loved ones this time around. The process of creating a custom photo card may seem overwhelming at first, but a holiday card is going to put a smile on the face of the recipient, and therefore, your efforts will not go unnoticed. If you are trying it for the first time, below are some holiday card etiquette tips that you should keep in mind.

Personalize the Message

The primary purpose of sending out holiday cards is to wish your loved ones all the best during the holiday season. Most people choose to buy predesigned cards from their local stores. Unfortunately, these mass-produced cards come with generic messages. It is not wise to send such generic messages to people that you care about. Instead, you should take time to create a custom card on online platforms, such as Mixbook, and write your holiday wishes to your loved ones in your own words. This also enables you to add a photo of your choice. This will make the recipient feel that the card was made specifically for them. As a result, they will know that you value them since you thought about them and went a step further to create something for them.

Send the Card on Time

As you send you holiday cards, you have to remember that they will take a week or two to get to the recipient via mail. As such, your timing has to account for this. Therefore, you should mail the cards two or three weeks before the actual holiday dates. For instance, if you want to send a Christmas card, you should ensure that it is going to get to the recipient any time between the first week of December and Christmas Eve. If you realize that you have missed this window, you can go ahead and send a New Year celebratory card instead.

Have a Seasonal Closing

After sighing your family names and your name on the card, you should not forget to include an appropriate seasonal closing. Examples of common phrases that you can end close with include: “Warmest Regards,” “Merry Christmas,” Happy New Year,” “Season’s Greetings,” or “With Love.”

The Takeaway

Overall, it is apparent that holiday photo cards are an excellent way of putting a smile on the faces of your loved ones during the holiday season. However, you have to ensure that you prepare and send your cards in the right way for you to create the expected effect. In other words, there are several etiquette tips that you must keep in mind for you to get the whole process right. If you are looking for a reliable online platform on which you can create fabulous holiday photo cards, Mixbook is the answer. Visit their site today and start the journey to sending your warmest holiday greetings.

Home Security

Spending large portions of the day—or longer when it comes to work travel—is stressful enough for today’s often overburdened workers. While most people don’t feel they have time to worry about what is going on at home during the work day, it is nearly impossible not to. If you have children, pets, or expensive items or family heirlooms in your home, you are going to worry. It is human nature.

There are ways that you can reduce the stress you feel when you are away from home from dawn to dusk, or for days on end.

Here are four ways to minimize stress when away from home:

1. Keep Up Regular Home Maintenance

If you travel for long stretches of time, you stand the chance of leaving your home looking as if it is vacant or simply uncared for. An unkempt yard can attract the attention of some bad characters, so make sure to perform regular upkeep, or hire someone you trust to do so. Consider hiring a local landscaping company to tend to grass and weeds and a pool maintenance team to clean your pool and balance the chemicals. Regular visits from these home care professionals also helps to maintain the appearance of a busy atmosphere, making it a riskier proposition to try to burglarize your home or cause other problems.

2. Invest In Identity Theft Protection

Investing in a high-quality identity theft protection, such as Lifelock, can help you protect your financial assets and reputation in case someone does ever break into your home and steal your belongings. With a full menu of services packed into detailed plans, you can put a damper on criminal activity as soon as you realize your information has been stolen.

3. Install a Manual Lock on Your Garage Door

If you have a high-tech, remote-operated garage door, disconnect it when you are traveling. Hacking is standard behavior for cybercriminals these days, and that behavior could easily apply to local neighborhood thieves who understand that garage openers can sometimes be opened by universal remotes. Go ahead and disengage your garage door opener and go with a manual lock.

4. Don’t Advertise Your Comings and Goings on Social Media

It is easy to develop a certain degree of comfort when talking to friends, family and co-workers on social media, discussing upcoming work trips and how long you will be away. Keep in mind that your friends or followers also have friends and followers. You simply can’t know how many degrees of separation there are between you and a local criminal waiting to rob your house while you are away. Minimize the personal details that you provide on the open timeline, such as your home’s location and your schedule, whether your daily schedule or your travel itinerary. Discuss those matters only in private messages or off-platform.

By tightening up entryways to your home, making sure your property looks happily lived in, minimizing personal details you provide to strangers, and reducing potential risk with identity theft protection, you can lessen stress daily without much effort.

If you haven’t heard of the classic American TV sitcom Friends, then you either slept from 1994-2004 or have been sleeping ever since. The sitcom has become immortalised through modern culture and still to this day, the fan base continues to grow with each generation. Seriously, could there be any more love for this show? Cast your minds back to Season 5, Episodes 23 and 24 where you’ll find our favourite characters in Las Vegas at the casino.

Each of these iconic characters has fun in Vegas – although for some (Ross and Rachel) it was probably a night to forget. As is always true in Vegas, there was a lot of fun to be had. Although there is a lot of popularity surrounding casino online playing, nothing beats an experience in Vegas, as these characters will tell you. Let’s remind ourselves of the games that were played in this memorable two-part episode.

Phoebe Buffay and Slots

On the one hand, Phoebe is a loving and caring person who wants nothing but to make others happy; on the other, she’s feisty, intimidating and at times a little scary. When we see her at the slot machines in Vegas, she is shown, in perhaps not the best of lights.

Whilst playing Slots, Phoebe is informed of what a ‘lurker’ is, after a brief conversation with Ross. A lurker, according to Ross’ explanation, is where someone waits for you to give up on a slot machine so they can jump in and claim the jackpot. The idea is that the more you play, the closer you are to winning. If you give up too soon, the chances of winning a jackpot increase for the next player.

Phoebe learns of her old-lady-lurker and attempts to stop her from winning by trying to beat her at her own game. As soon as the elderly lady puts her quarter in the next slot machine, Phoebe jumps in to play it and she wins the jackpot! After making a scene and the elderly lady complaining to security, Phoebe is thrown out of the casino.

Joey Tribbiani at Blackjack

Casino games probably aren’t the best for Joey as he is not exactly the brightest. Our food-loving character sits down at the Blackjack table for some rest before being told by the croupier that he cannot sit if he isn’t playing. Joey throws down a bill and is dealt some cards before a sudden realisation.

The croupier is his hand twin! In Joey’s eyes, this is a million-dollar revelation. Joey believes they are about to become rich and famous from this unique circumstance – the croupier doesn’t think so. Not only is he not bothered by the whole situation, but he is also extremely unamused by Joey’s excited-self. Joey leaves and returns later with Phoebe who disguises herself as Regina Phalange, ready to convince the croupier that this is an incredible find. It ends with both of them being escorted out by security.

Monica and Chandler at the Craps table

Arguably, the best love story from the series is Monica and Chandler, and Vegas is where they take the next step towards tying the knot. After some anniversary mishaps, the two end-up making-up over the success of Monica’s throws on the Craps table.

A hard eight is what’s needed each throw, as plenty of people surround the table with anticipation. Chandler announces ludicrous bets one after the other, with the last bet being “If you roll another eight, we get married, here, tonight”. The crowd cheers but Monica shouts over the top of them stating that “this just got interesting”. The dice are rolled, one reveals a four, the other going wild off the table. Landing on the edge of a four and a five, Chandler reassures Monica, that it is, in fact, a four.

We then end the episode, seeing Monica and Chandler with their something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue ready to wed in a chapel – only to watch very intoxicated ex-lovers Ross and Rachel walk out the chapel as newlyweds. That’s certainly one way to change your mind about a wedding in Vegas!

Dubai

Every country has its own policy, rules and regulations and the action and reaction of every citizen of the country is governed by these rules and regulations. Some countries have strict laws and rules while some have lenient laws. Some of them are important in a country to avoid crimes and exploitation and everyone in the country needs to think about them from a pragmatic point of view. Some of the regulations might not be reasonable, but there must be a reason behind that we all need to understand and obey.

Getting Dubai tourist visa is usually not a big and tough task. Usually Dubai is a place where lots of rules and regulation are made. Some of these rules and regulations are necessary while some of them are unnecessary and follow orthodox thinking as well. The few dos and don’ts when you’re in Dubai city as a tourist are:

DO’s:

  • Take a cab to hotel from night club: Drinking and driving is strictly prohibited in Dubai and you can be charged with high fines that will leave your pocket empty.
  • Dress sensibly and also obey the sharia law: Women are required to wear loose clothes with full sleeves and gents are advised to wear shirt-pant. Dubai follows sharia law and expects everybody living there and coming to the city as a tourist to respect that law.
  • Prefer drinking tap water: It is recommended to drink tap water as it is available for free and it is as safe as the mineral water of your hotel that will cost you much more.
  • Respect towards Emirati women:You should always be careful when talking to Emirati women. Shake hands only if the women initiates, otherwise not. If you pap any women, it is like giving invitation to trouble.
  • Be aware of the timings in advance:The lifestyle and night life of people in Dubai are completely different from other countries and if you’ve gone to Dubai then be aware of the timings of your favourite places because in Dubai even a Friday looks like Saturday and people there lives like that. So it might be a possibility that many places shortlisted by you for visit must be closed

Don’t:

  • Wearing swimwear away from pool: If you’re near the pool wearing these clothes, then it is acceptable but if you’re far from these places, then this clothing style is considered disrespectful and can be a trouble for you.
  • Don’t take drugs:Consumption of drugs is not allowed in Dubai sodon’t bring them here. So if you’re caught, then it will lead to legal actions.
  • Don’t forget your bargaining skills: If you’re going to souks market in Dubai, don’t forget to bargain. This market has many things you can buy but all you need to do is negotiate for the best price. Only a scatter-brained person will give the asked price in this market.
  • Don’t lose your temper: People living in Dubai do not tolerate bad tempered people and your aggressive behaviour can turn out heavy results on you.

Dubai visa is easy but managing your behaviour is even more important. It is a cultured city and it gives lot of importance to the religion they follow. It doesn’t mean they disrespect any other religion but all they mean is respect everyone’s religion.

The islands of Thailand have something to fantasize about. The white sand, the chic rustic cabins skirting the beaches, a white hammock swaying gently between two palm trees while a turquoise blue water extends on the horizon … But each island is different from the others, with its own peculiarities, and there are dozens of them. So, how to choose? We have selected an island for every type of traveler, whether you want to party until the end of the night, take diving lessons, discover Thai gastronomy or travel in love.

Koh Phi Phi: to travel solo

If you are going on holiday alone or with a friend, Hua Hin to Koh Samui is the best place to visit. But there is another option; Koh Phi Phi. Koh Phi Phi is the island for you. It was almost completely rebuilt following the 2004 tsunami. Numerous activities are offered (diving, snorkelling, boat trips to Koh Phi Phi Ley, etc.) to a young, dynamic and trendy clientele who seeks both to relax and to party (especially on New Year’s Eve). After a day of sunbathing, swimming and exploring, the evening is the perfect time to go shopping, have a cocktail on the beach watching the Thai dancers juggle the fire, and dance until short day. You may arrive alone at Koh Phi Phi, but chances are it will not be the case when you leave.

Or sleep
?

The rooms of Zeavola Resort – away from the city center – are absolutely charming, decorated in the purest traditional Thai style and offering views of the ocean or the tropical garden. The Pool Villas are among the best equipped in all of Thailand.

Koh Lipe: for everlasting romances and honeymoons

When you imagine an island in Thailand, it’s probably a place like Koh Lipe that you think. Known for owning the most beautiful beaches in Thailand, Koh Lipe is one of the 51 islands that make up the Tarutao Marine Park, further south at the border with Malaysia. It is the dream destination that combines the calm of a remote location (much less touristy than Phuket or Kho Samui) with postcard beaches and luxury hotels. The island is small enough to be explored on foot. Pattaya Beach is the most bustling beach and that’s where the nightlife goes, while Sunset Beach is quieter and secluded. Snorkelling, diving, visits to small islands around … many activities are offered, unless you prefer to enjoy massages for two in one of the many spas of the island.

Or sleep?

On the beach of Sunrise Beach, Idyllic Concept Resort is a place full of style, to prefer to the usual beach bungalows. There is a bar in the pool, and 28 rooms with beautiful finishes in a contemporary decor.

Koh Lanta: for those who cannot choose

Of all the islands in Thailand, Koh Lanta is probably the most versatile. Less than an hour by boat from Krabi, Koh Lanta is actually a set of several small islands. The best known is Koh Lanta Yai, with its nature reserves and beaches where you will not meet the soul … The range of accommodation is very wide, from the economic to the ultra chic, and welcomes more customers between 30 and 50 years as young backpackers. Children are welcome, thanks to calm waters and a very safe island. If you want to sunbathe on beautiful beaches, dive into one of the most beautiful sites in the world, have massages, have fun in beach bars, kayak in the mangrove and enjoy seafood with locals in a warm fishing village … then Koh Lanta Island is for you!

Or sleep?

The island does not lack elegant resorts. Pimalai was the first five star hotel in Koh Lanta, located in the tropical forest on the edge of the white sand beach Ba Kan Tiang Beach, near the Lanta Marine National Park. Accommodations range from rooms to villas, and the spa offers outdoor massages surrounded by palm trees.

Koh Samui: for families

Koh Samui is already known as a honeymoon destination, but it is also a perfect place for children. There are indeed international hospitals (with English speaking doctors), the hotels take care of the children, the restaurants have menus designed especially for them and the shops all offer sunscreen, buckets, shovels and everything what you could have forgotten. When children no longer want to play on the beach, offer them a stroll along the waterfalls, a visit of butterfly gardens, an elephant trek, karting, or a cinema. However, Koh Samui is also suitable for adults once the children have been dropped off at the daycare: sunsets on the beach, starred restaurants and luxury spas.

Or sleep?

Many of the island’s hotels are thought for couples, but the Four Seasons Koh Samui, located in the heart of the palm trees behind a beach, is ideal for both families and lovers. While couples can enjoy a sapa zen and candlelit dinners on the beach, the villas with swimming pools and children’s areas are ideal for families.

Koh Tao: for divers

On the coast of Koh Tao, or Turtle Island, are lined creeks, small lantern-lit restaurants and dive shops. Most travelers are here for this, as the island is one of the best places in the world to learn diving. And the competition between all the stores makes it also one of the cheapest places to practice this activity. If you are a beginner in this field, sign up to pass your diving certificate. This usually takes four days, with one outing a day. If you already have your certificate, you can take night diving lessons, around wrecks or with sharks, or simply board one of the ten boats that sails every day. If you are not a diving fan, you will still be seduced by the charm of Koh Tao and its incredible nightlife, which would not be what it is without the famous Full Moon Party, less gigantic and more responsible while those of his neighbor Koh Pha Ngan.

Or sleep?

Most of the hotels are built around pools in which the apprentice divers train. For something a little more refined, Casas del Sol offers five villas with swimming pools located on a hill and overlooking the sea, each accommodating up to 4 people.

Phuket: life in a big way

Phuket offers everything, even what you do not think. Star restaurants, luxury resorts with private concierge, cosmetic surgery … You will find everything here. It is the largest and most touristy island in Thailand. And although many places are affordable in terms of price, Phuket is also full of luxury shops. The beaches, among the most beautiful in the country, have been stormed by hotels and beach bars. If you are looking for a quieter place, head for Kata Noi.

Or sleep?

Phuket does not lack luxury hotels. The only question to ask is: which one to choose? The Six Senses Yao Noi Beyond Phuket, and the Banyan Tree Phuket are among the most recommended.

Thailand offers beautiful islands for various types of travelers. Are you ready to travel to the Southeast Asian country? Enjoy your vacation and good luck!

South Africa

There is a saying that he who travels a lot sees things and is more enlightened than the person who lives long. Travelling affords you the privilege of seeing the world. For several reasons ranging from studies, tours, work, etc., people travel to different places in the world.

Someone once said if you think adventure is dangerous, try routine, it’s lethal. Perhaps you have been planning your next trip to run away from the routine and monotony of your present location, there are amazing places you can travel to. One of those places in South Africa.

Getting your visa to South Africa

Of course, you know before you travel anywhere, you need to get a visa. Getting visas involve procedures and South Africa Visa is no exception. These procedures can be hectic sometimes especially if you have complications with your papers. There is an eVisa available for eligible citizens who want to travel to South Africa for a short stay. In a bid to boost tourism, the South African government introduced an online visa to facilitate the process of getting a South African tourist visa. Presently, the pilot scheme is open to citizens of New Zealand but other eligible countries will be announced after the pilot scheme is concluded.

Traveling to South Africa

South Africa is one of the best places you can travel to for a long and a short stay. Talk about the great wine of South Africa. You certainly can’t overlook the wonderful and glorious array of wildlife, the magnificent and exotic mountains, and the beautiful beaches you get to cool off. South Africa is big and you cannot be at every place. There are some locations you will visit and you will have a great story to tell.

Before you embark on your trip, you need to have a concrete plan. When you get to South Africa, here are some suggestions you should heed to make your trip a smooth one.

Consider Your Financial Capacity: Before you embark on your trip, you should consider your financial strength to know if you can afford it or if it is an unaffordable luxury to you at the moment. You should consider the exchange rate of the currency in your location to South African currency. This calculation will help you know if you can afford it. You should also draw out a list of your necessities and prioritize them.

Explore: You should visit exotic places. Johannesburg has superb museums like the Apartheid Museum, the Cradle of Humankind, and the Sterkfontein Caves that will provide you with entertainment and history. If you are interested in street art, Maboneng is the place to be. South Africans are good at music. You might want to watch in a live performance. You may have read and learned about South Africa. This adventure is your chance to have firsthand experience with them and get to ask the questions you have had.

When it comes to food, South Africa has a lot to offer. A place like the V&A Waterfront offers you more than food. The entertainment is irresistible. The street artists, the craft markets and other fun packages are unbeatable. The array of food, especially the large oysters, will more than satisfy your appetite. If you are in Cape Town, don’t fail to explore it!

Plan to have fun: Plan to have fun on your trip. There are great guided tours you can explore – Johannesburg and Soweto Apartheid Full Day Tour, Cradle of Humankind Tour, 1 or 2 Day Johannesburg Hop-On, and Hop-Off Tour. You should take out the time to learn the history behind their historical sites and tourist centers.

Accommodation: Before traveling, you should have plans of where to stay all through. You may want to check out hotels to lodge in or an apartment or studio that is within your budget. Hotels like Curiosity Backpack in Maboneng, Lebo’s Soweto Backpackers, and The Aviator in Kempton Park are great suggestions if you are in Johannesburg or Soweto.

Be Friendly and Open-Minded to Learn: Every place and people have ways of doing things. To make your stay successful and fun, you will have to drop the aura of being a stranger and mix with the people you come across. As Mark Twain will say, travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts.

You don’t want to say something out of place. You want to learn about their arts and culture. You should pick up words and phrases in languages like Zulu, Afrikaans, Ndebele, or any other language of your choice. You can only achieve this feat if you mix with the people. You can communicate in English but an extra language can be handy. If you are interested enough, you can visit their libraries and learn one or two things. Someone can only open up and answer the questions you have been nursing if you are friends with them.

You may want to get something to remember your trip. Something peculiar to South Africa liketheir artworks. If you like artwork, you will appreciate their culture and artworks generally. If you are a book lover, you may want to get some books, especially those that may be rare in your country.

You should make sure to capture every moment. Take your camera along or you may use your smartphone. Making videos and snapping a picture is fun. It is more fun when you capture funny moments.

Conclusion

If you are thinking of traveling and your considerations are inhibiting you, remember ‘fear is only temporary, regrets last forever’. Traveling to South Africa is a great choice that you will not regret making. South Africa is interesting and visiting the country will be an interesting experience. If you plan appropriately, you will have no sad tales to tell. These suggestions are meant to help you have the greatest fun of your life. You can adjust them to suit you better. Have great fun on your trip!

Viking Yachts Fishing

Fighting and landing a mammoth gamefish is one of the most exhilarating feelings an angler will experience. Like hitting a perfect golf shot, catching a pelagic beast fuels the fire and brings you back for more.

One of the most sought-after blue water fish is marlin — blue, white, black, and striped. Tournaments are dedicated to them. Charters make livings off them. The chance to reel in a 1000+ pound billfish draws people to all corners of the world as they chase these majestic creatures.

To pursue these fast, powerful fish, you’ll need a proper sportfishing yacht. At any tournament or popular location, you’ll no doubt find charter captains and private owners piloting a mix of custom battlewagons or legendary semi-custom production brands like Viking Yachts.

Where are these hot spots? Here’s a quick overview of five locations around the world you’ll have a good chance at landing the catch of a lifetime.

Cairns, Australia

The 150 mile stretch of the Great Barrier Reef between Cairns and Lizard Island offers some of the finest fishing in the world for giant marlin, particularly black marlin.

The International Game Fishing Association (IGFA) keeps records of fish over 1,000 pounds captured around the world using equipment within the IGFA Rules. 70% of all 1,000+ pound marlins are caught off the Great Barrier Reef between Cairns and Lizard Island.

Some of the more notable spots to land a giant marlin are 10 Ribbon Reefs, Linden Bank, Agincourt, Opal Reef, St. Crispin’s Reef, Onyx Reef, Euston Light, and Jenny Louise Shoals.

The best time of year to snag a black marlin is September-December. For blue marlin, it’s typically December-March.

Kona, Hawaii

If you fancy big blue marlin, there’s one hot spot you need to get to: Kona, Hawaii.

More than half of the 150+ blue marlin over 1,000 pounds weighed in the Hawaiian Islands were caught in Kona (this doesn’t count the many more grander blues released).

Several IGFA world-record blue marlin have been landed in the surrounding waters, which are also home to the largest marlin ever caught on hook and line, a 1,805-pounder known as Choy’s Monster that was caught off the island of Oahu in 1970.

The usually calm seas are due to Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, two large mountains that make up most of the island. The mountains offer a 40-mile-long swath of water that’s protected from the trade winds.

While good year-round, the most consistent fishing is usually between April and September.

Madeira, Portugal

Madeira Island offers some of the finest big game fishing grounds for Atlantic blue marlin and is one of the best spots in the world for 1,000+ pounders.

Situated in the north Atlantic Ocean, southwest of Portugal and off the northwest coast of Africa, Madeira is an autonomous region of Portugal, with Madeira Island being the largest and most populous of the Madeira Archipelago.

A popular year-round resort, it is known for its namesake wine, warm, subtropical climate, and world-class marlin fishing. Madeira is ideally placed at the migratory route for large game fish. The average weight of fish caught is about 700 pounds.

The summer and early fall months, between May and October, bring with them an abundance of massive Atlantic blue marlin (as well as sleek sharks and other magnificent billfish).

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Situated on the northeast side of the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico, the deep waters off San Juan offer some of the greatest fishing in the world. And you don’t have to travel far offshore from San Juan harbor to find the action; just a few miles offshore, about a 15-minute ride, the depths plummet sharply. You’ll be lowering the riggers and launching your spread before you’ve made a dent in your coffee.

San Juan is known for its copious blue and white marlins. It’s home to the International Billfish Tournament, which recently celebrated its 66th year of big game action in August 2019

The best time to fish for blue marlins is June-October; for white marlin, it’s typically April-July.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

The waters around Cabo San Lucas are possibly the best sportfishing waters in the entire world. The presence of the striped marlin means you can fish for a marlin nearly all year round here.

While Cabo is built for tourism, East Cape, about 100 miles east up the coastline of Los Cabos, also provides incredible fishing but in a more remote, tranquil, less touristy setting.

In Cabo, as you leave the state-of-the-art Marina Cabo San Lucas, you’ll cruise past the famous rock formations at Finisterra (Land’s End), including El Arco, the massive stone arch that ranks as the most identifiable landmark of Cabo San Lucas, in pursuit of these glory fish.

The best blue and black marlin bite is usually May-December. For striped, while they can be found year-round, your best bet is typically November-May.

So go ahead – add these to your fishing bucket list, and happy marlin fishing!

When you travel to certain places, you already know what to expect. Considering that many others visited those places before, you already have an idea what could happen if you go there.

You will find reviews about these places. It’s also easy to find recommendations and guides. There’s nothing wrong in getting ideas from other people and trying what they did. However, it shouldn’t limit your experience. You have to do things that will enhance your travel experience.

Try homestay programs

Ditch hotel reservations in favor of a homestay program. It allows you to be with the locals. You will learn about their traditions and customs. You can also learn the language due to regular exposure. If you’re trying to limit your expenses, it’s also a good thing. Homestay programs are a lot cheaper than regular accommodation. It might not be the most comfortable option for you, but you will learn a lot of things in the process.

Eat in an unusual restaurant

You can quickly find recommendations on where to eat online. There are reviews available for you along with the general ratings of those who tried the place. However, in many countries around the world, there are smaller restaurants that don’t get these reviews. Some of them are even family-owned small restaurants that are worth trying. Therefore, you need to walk around the area to discover possible places where you can eat.

It also doesn’t hurt to try new dishes on the streets. They might not be the healthiest options, but you can try them. Kosher meals are also a good option. If you’re not Jewish, you probably didn’t try these dishes before. You can reserve a table at a kosher steakhouse NYC has if you want to have a full Jewish meal experience. If you’re heading to New York, you will find some of the best kosher restaurants.

Walk around

It’s a good thing that you see recommendations on transportation options online. You don’t need to figure out how to get from one place to another. You won’t get lost and you won’t spend a lot either. However, it also helps if you try to explore the area by walking around. You will see places many others are yet to see. You will also have the chance to engage with the locals and chat with them. You can spend an hour in the morning walking around before you head to the places you have to visit.

Don’t plan any itinerary to follow

Getting lost in a new city could be challenging but exciting. You will feel nervous about it but you will learn a lot. You will find a way to determine how to survive and get back home. You might regret the idea at first, but if you successfully make it, you will feel proud of yourself. You tried something most travelers won’t even dare to do.

Traveling is fun and can teach you a lot of things. It’s up to you to determine how to make the most of every experience you have.
