Electric Bikes

As technological as an electric bike sounds, they are a simple product that many regular bike riders enjoy owning. Like your favorite two-wheel bike, electric bikes ride on dual wheels but add a new battery-powered electric motor to the mix. That motor helps to keep you going when you’re too tired to continue peddling. Electric bikes are also often referred to as e-bikes. E-bikes are rising in popularity because they don’t make much noise or pollute, and they help people cycle more efficiently.

Need a Lift?

If you need a lift and some help when climbing up hills while you ride or want an extra push when you are riding against the wind, then an electric bike is an excellent idea for transportation. You’ll also find out that the motor on the bike will fan you, helping you to stay cool.

The motors on electric bikes can generate between 100 to 700 watts so that you’ll get to where you want to be and still experience a cool-down effect from your fan. Also, the motor on the bike will help when you need to bring your extra items with you if you are heading to your job, or simply visiting a friend.

Electric bikes provide riders with not only motors but plenty of comforts as well for when you are on-the-go. You’ll get cushioned seats that are comfortable to sit in, substantial handlebars, quick-release seats, and flat-resistant tires on many of these bikes. Some fancier electric bikes also offer things like removable batteries, fenders, alarms, and first locking and lighting systems. Once you purchase the electric bike you want, it’s always possible to spruce it up a bit with a few additional parts.

If you already have a great bike without a motor and you’re wondering if you can add an engine to it to make it electric, then there’s good news. You’ll upgrade a traditional two-wheel bike with an electronic bike kit and make your regular two-wheeler run on electric power as well.

Two Types of Electric Bikes

In the world of electric bikes, there are two different categories of bikes that you’ll need to consider, the pedal assist (also often called pedelec) and the power on command. The first type of e-bike, the pedal assist, forces you to pedal when you want to get help from the motor. The motor on these bikes can tell when you are pedaling, and then come on to help you out.

On the other hand, power on command e-bike comes with a motor that you use with a throttle. So, you don’t need to pedal with a power on command e-bike when you want to use the engine. All you need to do to experience power with a power on command bike is amp up the throttle. You can accelerate as you see fit. However, even with a power on command bike, you still want to consider pedaling when necessary or you’ll run out your battery quickly.

What Type of Electric Bike Should I Purchase?

The type of electric bike you should purchase will lay with your wants and needs. Both types of electric bikes, the pedelec, and the power on command e-bike are great vehicles to get you around. They are both bicycles with motors, and they both offer plenty of quality. However, it’s best to think about the same types of things you’d consider when buying a regular two-wheel bike when you purchase an e-bike.

You’ll want to consider things like the type of drivetrain you want on your bike, and the kind of terrain you’ll be hitting. For instance, if you like to ride for extended distances and you often go up hills, you’ll probably need a bike with more gears.

You’ll also need to consider the braking power you’ll need on your bike. If you often ride in wet weather and encounter a lot of mud, then you’ll want all-weather disc brakes. However, if you’re the type of person that doesn’t venture out and ride when the weather is terrible, then you’ll be fine with the traditional rim brakes.

Think about the suspension you might need while you are riding on the trails, too. If you want a smoother ride that’s comfortable, then you’ll need a better suspension. Also, think about how much you’ll need to carry while you are on your bike. Then, consider the type of tires you’ll want depending on the types of terrain you’ll be hitting with your bike.

If you’ve already got a great bike, then consider the idea of installing an electric motor kit on your bike. These kits can make just about any bike an e-bike. So, if you’ve already got a bike that matches all of your needs, you can save a bit of money by purchasing the electric-motor kit instead of purchasing an all-new e-bike.

Used Car

If you are thinking of buying a new car or to sell your current car and upgrade to a newer model, here are 5 top reasons why you should consider buying a used car:

  1. Better Models and Better Prices: The conventional notion of limited choices when you are buying a used car is long gone. With authorised dealerships like CarSwitch, who buy and sell cars, offering you a plethora of choices and deals which give you the full value for your money-this is the way to go. Depending on your requirement, you can choose the model which is the most suitable for you; you can also avail the opportunity to trade up by selling your old car there itself; and all of this can easily be done within a day! All you need to do is drive in to your nearest dealership, with your old car and you can drive back home with your new car the same day itself.
  2. Quality Guaranteed: When you purchase a pre-owned car through an authorised dealer, you can be assured of the quality guaranteed. One of the major doubts many customers have, when opting for buying a used car, is the overall quality of the car- whether its performance is economical, if there are any issues in the vehicle’s running history, or if there are any other issues with the car. At CarSwitch, every car is hand checked and inspected by experts, so you can be sure of the quality of the car you buy. Even in the rarest cases of any issues post the purchase of the car, they provide support and quick resolution, so you do not have to run from pillar to post, trying to figure out what to do next.
  3. Affordable: These days, the number of used cars in UAE is reaching new heights, as many consumers are now realising how many affordable options are available. When you purchase a brand new car, within the first year of use, it devalues 30% of the original price. So when you can get the latest model of the car which you’ve got your eye on, at a much more affordable price; and is running smoothly, why not get a used car?
  4. Lower Insurance Costs: Since used cars are more lighter on your wallet than new cars, with the same principle, the cost of insuring a used car is lower than that of a new car. In fact, you can also end up saving more by dropping some elements of the car insurance; such as collision and theft. Many car experts say that such elements can be eliminated easily when the car is old enough. So choosing to buy a used car can prove to be a super saver deal for you!
  5. Minimised Depreciation: Some fancy words for saving your precious bucks, when you buy the “right” used car, you can possibly buy it, drive it and resell it with little loss in equity. In simpler terms, if you choose resell your used car after a while, you would not be losing out a lot on the price as compared to a new car, because a used car depreciates slower than a new car; hence the resale value of it would not be a drastic drop from the price that you bought it at.

Purchasing a pre-owned car can be a very smart investment, both economically and practically. Not only do you save on costs, and get the best deal for your buck, but you also get the guarantee of quality and an efficient car for your use. So why not make the wiser choice and consider buying a used car?

sell your car

For how long have you had that junk car sitting in your backyard, rusting away? Maybe a year, two years or perhaps you have had it there for as long as you can remember, right? But how much are you earning from it? Zero cents. But the worst part is that it has been occupying the most space and making your yard look neglected. Did you know that you can make quick cash from it? Well, now you do. But the big question is, how do you do that?

There are a lot of junk car dealers out there looking to offer cash for junk cars, and it is up to you to make the most out of it. If you are not sure of where to get started, here are a few tips to guide you through the process and ensure that it is a success.

Beware of scammers

There has been a rapid increase in the demand and supply of junk cars with more and more dealers coming up for business while more sellers are now looking to get rid of their damaged and rusty vehicles. This has, in return, led to an increase in scammers who are out to take advantage of newbies who have no idea where to get started and how to deal with the exchange. You are excited about getting rid of that vehicle, and getting money out of it is making you even more excited. This is a time when you are willing to give in to the first dealer that comes your way. Before you know it, you have been conned. Take your time and understand the market first. Look for a reputable and reliable dealer; start from there.

Go local

It is always a good idea to deal with a local junk car dealer who you can trust. Local, meaning you can easily visit them for further discussions if need be. You will even be at ease knowing that if things were to go wrong, you know how to find them. It will also be easier for you to know them better and even ask around about their reputation and trustworthiness. All you have to do is go online and search for junk car dealers near you, filter the results based on what you are looking for and then evaluate each of them till you find the right one.

Have a budget in mind

You should have an amount in mind depending on how much you think your junk car is worth. Do not let the dealers be the ones to tell you how much you should accept for the exchange. Have a reasonable value in mind, and then you can start the bargaining from there till you reach a common ground.

These three simple tips will make your selling process easier even if you have never done this before. All the best!

Motorcycle Helmet

As a motorcycle rider, you have to ensure your safety whether you are riding on a busy highway or a less driven path. At night, especially, you have to ensure that your gear has the right reflective strip to make you visible to motorists. Besides ensuring that you are safe, it is important that you invest in the right gear. There are different types and designs of motorcycle helmets; some are great but others may not meet your needs.

It takes time to get a good quality bike. Once you have the bike, you have to take quality time to research on a good helmet to keep yourself safe. Seeing that there are many factors that make up a good helmet and there are hundreds of motorcycle helmet brands, we created this guide to help you pick the right helmet for you.

How will you be using your motorcycle?

A good helmet should meet your riding needs. Before you consider other factors, therefore, consider the kind of riding you will engage in, how long you will be on your motorcycle every day and how much money you are willing to spend on the helmet. Below are three types of riding and the needs of each.

  1. Commuting and Weekend Road Trips

If you use your bike to commute to and from work, it means you will be using it every day. As such, you need to choose a helmet that protects you in case of a fall and reduces wind noise while you ride.

  1. Weekend Getaways with Friends

It is fun biking with your friends on a weekend. It is even more fun if you can talk while you ride. When riding with friends, you need to keep in touch at all times. As such, pick a motorcycle helmet fitted with a built-in communication device. This allows you to communicate without the need to stop or make a call. While these helmets are relatively more expensive, they are a worthy investment.

  1. Motorcycle Racing

Races are risky irrespective of how experienced you are. If you will be racing often, you need a high performance helmet that protects you well when you are on the tracks. The helmet should have clasps to hold them in place securely even in the event of a fall. A helmet that covers your full face is more recommended.

Attributes to Look for in a Helmet

Motorcycle helmets sport different designs including half, three-quarters and full face designs. Full face helmets are ideal when you need maximum protection. Half and three-quarter designs do not offer enough protection in the event of a road collision; these should only be used in less-risky riding expeditions. When riding, it is advisable that you keep yourself safe even from minute accidents.

There is a wide selection of helmets even among full face or half helmets. This is where you need to be more careful when shopping. If you need to buy a full face helmet, pick one that fits on your head snugly. As a rider, your head shape and size is unique and so should the helmet. Granted, you need to try out different sizes and models to see which fits you comfortably.

Most full-face helmets are offered either as a long oval, round oval, intermediate oval or narrow fit. Others are of a fuller shape to meet the needs of those with relatively large heads. You can only tell how comfortable a helmet is by trying it out. The chin strap should hold your helmet comfortably and securely; it should not be too tight.

Seek Help from a Retailer When Shopping

While you can go to any retail shop and pick the best  ATV helmets without any help, a retailer can help you make the right choice faster. This is especially important when you are buying a helmet for your motorcycle for the first time. A good retailer should not try to sell you a given helmet brand but help you choose a good fit for your budget.

Conclusion

A good motorcycle helmet will protect you in the event of a collision but you will still need insurance for more protection. A good insurance policy should offer coverage that matches your riding needs.

In 2019, auto-industries enriched with technology are changing the way consumers feel about electric cars. With new innovations each year, these industries are paving the way for more than 222 million licensed drivers to feel safer both on and off the road. Electric cars offer the opportunity for scientists and engineers to show how cars can operate. As cities expand and populations rise, there is an effect on the patterns of land usage, public budgets, urban social life and jobs.

Each of those facts impacts the functionality that new cars on the market should have. As more people have taken to the road on bikes, electric cars like Volvo have produced tech that “monitors the vicinity” of a vehicle” in comparison to other cars and cyclists. Since then, more developments have been created, helping to reduce emissions and the amount of natural resources that affect global warming.

The Difference Between Electric Cars And Gas Cars

Electric cars (EVs) are a big transition for traditional car users. The major difference between electric cars and gas cars is the amount of money you can save. Although it’s imperative that you service your car every few thousand miles, “changing the engine oil, coolant, transmission fluid, and belts can add up in value over time.” Electric cars do not have the same internal structure, which makes their monthly or yearly upkeep less expensive. That is not to say you won’t have to do work to your car, but there are more benefits. Electric cars are designed to work hard using battery power. With proper car maintenance, you should expect to replace your battery when needed, as opposed to dealing with more than five services at a time as your car ages.

The Latest Innovations And Trends

Ford, one of many long-standing trustworthy auto-industries in the U.S, offers both hybrid and electric cars. While hybrid does not have the same impact as an electric car, it can also be a great way to start getting into EVs. Their top selling EV, Focus Electric, will be re-imagined and changed in the next year. As their first electric car, this EV has fast charging capabilities that can be monitored via their mobile app, “MyFord”. In a time when IoT and application usage is popular, this tool makes it easier to keep track of your vehicle at all times. The company also lists SYNC, a system that can control the vehicle’s functions, whether it’s music or navigation through your voice. In addition to Ford, Chevrolet also has a line of hybrid and electric cars. The Chevrolet Bolt EV will provide a new range of features this year. Not only will it include an auto-sensing system that will automatically shift the car to park when the door is open, but also offer new touchscreen capabilities that can adjust heating and cooling in the car. There will be more enhanced features to come as well.

Electric cars can help millions to reduce their carbon footprint, helping not only their cities, but also the overall pollution rates around the world

Riding a motorcycle offers a lot of benefits, such as easing your way through traffic and arriving earlier compared to riding a car. The downside is that a motorcycle is more susceptible to accidents than a car. Also, if you’re concern about how the public sees you, you’ll be seen by a lot of people when you choose to ride a motorcycle instead of a car.

If you want to create a positive impression and protect yourself when riding a motorcycle, don’t forget to invest in the following clothing items:

1.    Boots

Unlike conventional boots, the pair you’re going to buy for a motorcycle ride should provide molded shin protection for your ankle. This feature will protect you from any injuries when you accidentally hit the handlebars of your motorcycle.

If you want to end up buying the Best Motorcycle Boots, look for the following features:

  • The boots should be breathable and waterproof. You’ll be riding a motorcycle in different weather conditions, so it’s best if you buy a pair that can provide comfort regardless if it’s sunny or raining.
  • It should also perfectly fit the measurement of your feet. Using a pair of motorcycle boots that are too small or too big will make it hard for you to operate the brakes and gears.
  • The solar of the boot should also provide arch support. If possible, look for motorcycle boots that have an anti-crush shank, such as those made from steel. This feature can provide comfort to your feet even during long drives.

2.    Jacket

Motorcycle riders aren’t only wearing jackets for aesthetic purposes. Jackets, especially those that are made from leather, can provide a lot of benefits to motorcycle riders like you.

When buying a jacket, make sure that it has the following features:

  • Look for jackets that are made from modern fabrics as these can provide waterproof protection while being breathable at the same time. This feature can protect you from hypothermia whenever you’re riding through cool climates.
  • Your jacket should also have a collar to protect your neck from external elements, such as the weather and other debris. Buying a jacket that doesn’t have a collar might require you to buy a scarf or windproof balaclava.
  • Buying a jacket that has reflective panels can be an excellent choice, especially if you’re fond of riding your motorcycle at night. Also, wearing a jacket that has reflective panels will make you more visible to other drivers and pedestrians.

3.    Gloves

Gloves shouldn’t be considered as a luxury when you’re riding a motorcycle. Because of the benefits it can provide to the rider, it should be considered a necessity.

In case you didn’t know, gloves can keep your hands warm and protect them whenever you’re involved in an accident. Gloves usually come with knuckle protection and wrist strap, making it easy for you to tighten your grip.

The gloves you buy should provide the following:

  • With the number of gloves available in the market today, you can narrow down your search by choosing one that’s made from breathable materials. A breathable pair of gloves will allow your hands to be comfortable when riding and prevent it from getting too sweaty.
  • The gloves you buy should also protect your hands from water and dirt. You don’t want your hands to be soiled every time you’re riding your motorcycle, right?
  • Aside from protecting your fingers, the gloves you buy should also provide grip to your palm. This part of the glove shouldn’t become slippery despite the weather or road conditions as this will cause you to lose control of your motorcycle.

4.    Pants

Your entire body is exposed when you ride a motorcycle. And while it’s perfectly fine to ride a motorcycle during the sunny weather, riding one when it’s raining can become a struggle. This type of weather condition can make you susceptible to accidents and injuries.

Fortunately, using the right type of pants can decrease your chances of being hurt. Just make sure that the pants you buy have the following features:

  • Pants should be waterproof, windproof, and is big enough to fit over your boots. All of these features will ensure your safety as a driver without compromising your comfort.
  • Additionally, the pants should also have built-in knee pads and padding on the hips. These cushions will prevent these body parts from being injured whenever you’re involved in an accident.
  • When scouting for options, take the time to try out the pants and ensure that these will feel comfortable when you’re sitting. The pants should be appropriate to the size of your legs and hips, so you can freely move while riding.

Prioritize Safety

Riding a motorcycle shouldn’t only be about looking good; you should also exert time and effort in keeping yourself safe. Because similar to driving a car, riding a motorcycle can also lead to accidents and injuries.

Custom Paint Jobs

Every car owner desires to have a posh-looking car. Unsurprisingly, paint jobs have become quite popular in the recent years. The cost of painting a car depends on a variety of factors. However, two major factors stand out, the paint quality and prepping. Before commencing on a paint job, the car that is being painted must be checked for scratches, dents or cracks. These flaws must first be fixed, after which the entire vehicle is sanded thoroughly to eliminate the old coat of paint.

Painting your car doesn’t have to be an expensive engagement. You can enjoy affordable custom paint jobs that provide your car a tremendous upgrade.

So how much do custom paint jobs really cost?

Cheap Paint jobs

If you’re a frugal individual who likes penny pinching, there are a few options that might make your mouth water. Some popular national chains offer a full car repainting at a relatively affordable price. The cost could range from $250 to $400. But before jumping onto the cheap paint job bandwagon, it’s important to know what type of service you’ll be receiving.

Most people who opt for low-cost paint jobs complain about the inferior paint quality, claiming to get lackluster value for money. Others are highly unimpressed by the poor workmanship exhibited by the painters, deeming them unprofessional. However, if your desire is to receive a modest paint job for your vehicle, then consider getting these budget-friendly services. But if your intention is to pimp up your vehicle, then consider getting a better paint job.

Mid-range paint jobs

If you walk into any reputable paint shop, you’ll notice that standards set there are pretty high. Although the quality of the paint job might be impressive, the cost of service might set you back significantly. That’s why you should seek for clarity in price from the get-go. You can request for a quote from revered paint professionals within your area – this will provide a yardstick that will help you gauge your financial ability. Some paint brands are more expensive than others. If you adorn a particular taste, then your preferred painter should guide you on the most appropriate paint to use.

To get a high quality paint job, then expect to pay upwards of $1,000. This price could even reach $5,000 for highly specific paint jobs that require high-end paints such as DuPont and Diamont. The more complex the paint job, the more expensive it will be. For instance, some clients might require an entire repainting of the exterior, interior and engine area.

Expensive paint jobs

Specialty painting projects can cost you an arm and a leg. For instance, paint jobs specializing in metallic paints are quite costly. The same case applies to air brushing. If you decide to get an expensive paint job for your vehicle, ensure you have about $6,000 to $20,000 at the ready. Apart from paint quality used, the cost could also depend on the type of car you drive. Luxurious car brands require lush paintjobs that often cost thousands of dollars.

Whatever option you choose, ensure that you receive a proper paint job. It’s also important to stick to your budget.

You probably remember the day you got your driver’s license. You probably felt liberated at the ability to operate a vehicle that could take you anywhere. Besides that, driving can be a lot of fun!

But it’s also dangerous if the driver is not careful. Car accidents happen every minute of every day in the U.S. There’s not much you can do to prevent a car accident caused by someone else, but you can take steps to avoid being the cause of that accident.

Here’s what you can do when you’re behind the wheel to make the roads safer for everyone.

Reduce Distractions

Distracted driving is the number one cause of car accidents in the United States. Distractions can be cognitive, such as daydreams or worrying about something. They can be visual, such as billboards or flashing lights, or they can be physical, such as reaching into the backseat to separate fighting kids.

Phone use, particularly texting, is the biggest danger in distracted driving because it employs all three types of distraction. “When you send or read a text message, you take your eyes off the road for about 5 seconds, long enough to cover the length a football field while driving at 55 mph,” says a fact page from the CDC.

Have a Backup Plan

Those who drink before driving don’t always plan to do so. They might have a glass of wine at dinner and then leave to pick up their child from a sports practice. Or they might go out with friends and end up having a beer.

Instead of getting behind the wheel, have a backup plan. You might ask your child to get a ride home with a friend, or you might keep the number of a cab company handy in case you’re drinking when out with friends. If you make plans before you decide to pick up a drink, you’ll be much less likely to drive.

Stay Out of the Fast Lane

“Most highway accidents occur in the left lane,” says Caroline Pardilla, deputy managing editor of Edmunds.

When you’re in the fast lane, you’re probably speeding, if only a little. You’ll also feel peer pressure from other vehicles coming up behind you to drive a little faster. When driving at these speeds, it’s harder to stop during bumper to bumper traffic.

“By using the center or right lane on multilane roads, you have more ‘escape routes’ should a problem suddenly arise that requires you to quickly change lanes or pull onto the shoulder,” Pardilla concludes.

Scan Your Peripheries

Many accidents occur not because the driver was looking away from the road, but because they weren’t watching the sidelines. For example, a car might run a red light, or a deer might run onto the highway. If you were scanning the surrounding areas, you might have seen the hazard coming.

“Always count to three before entering an intersection on a green light,” admonishes an article from EHS Today. “Look both ways and be sure no one is trying to speed through a yellow light.” This simple act could save lives.

Maintain Your Vehicle

Many accidents occur because of vehicle malfunctions. For example, an engine stall during rush hour traffic might cause a rear end accident. A bald tire could also burst when driving at high speeds, causing the vehicle to flip.

Get oil changes regularly and have all the fluids inspected regularly. Avoid letting your tire tread get too low and have them rotated every six months. Pay attention to your brakes as well. If you’re leaking brake fluid or your pads are worn, they won’t work properly and could cause a serious accident.

Check Your Blind Spots

When you change lanes, do you glance over your shoulder to check for hidden cars? This simple act will prevent many accidents; your mirrors don’t show everything.

Additionally, be wary when driving near semi-trucks. These massive vehicles have many blind spots, and if you spend too much time hiding in one, you could get hit. If you can’t see the mirrors on the truck cab, the driver probably can’t see you.

Slow Down

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that more than a quarter of all traffic fatalities are the result of speeding. When you’re driving too fast, you have less time to react if there’s a problem on the road.

“Speeding endangers not only the life of the speeder, but all of the people on the road around them, including law enforcement officers,” the NHTSA warns. “It is a problem we all need to help solve.”

Give yourself plenty of time before leaving so that you’re not tempted to speed. Don’t rush around cars on the highway and be patient. By giving yourself just a little extra time to get to your destination, you’ll develop a habit of safer driving for the rest of your life.

Car Crash

Being involved in a car crash is nerve-wracking, but it’s worse when you’ve been injured. Dealing with physical pain and emotional trauma at the same time isn’t easy. Unfortunately, injuries caused by traffic accidents are a reality for 50 million people in the U.S. each year.

Just like passenger vehicle accidents, truck accidents are mostly caused by the truck driver’s error, including negligence. Common forms of negligence include distracted driving, fatigue, and being under the influence of drugs.

You probably know what to do after an accident with a passenger vehicle: gather contact and insurance information, see a doctor, and have your property damage assessed. You’ll talk to an insurance claims adjuster, and hopefully reach a reasonable settlement.

The process is slightly different when an accident involves a commercial vehicle. When a truck driver is operating a company vehicle, that company is legally liable for the actions of the truck driver. You can’t just file a claim with your insurance company. If you were injured in a crash involving a semi-truck or an 18-wheeler, you don’t want to pursue the claim on your own. You need a lawyer to navigate the complexities of the legal process.

You need to act fast to preserve evidence

Contacting a lawyer is urgent when you’ve been injured in a crash involving a commercial vehicle. Investigating a commercial vehicle accident is more involved than a passenger vehicle accident, and it’s not something you can easily do on your own.

To determine fault, a lawyer needs to obtain evidence from the truck involved in the crash before it’s lost or destroyed. A lawyer will ask the court to order the owner to preserve whatever evidence they need.

Many commercial trucks are required to carry a “black box” type device to record data prior to and during a crash.

The Serious Injury Law Group lists several types of data collected by these boxes:

  • Date and time of the crash
  • Vehicle speed
  • Engine speed
  • Brake status
  • Clutch status
  • Throttle (gas pedal) position
  • Cruise-control status
  • Steering angle
  • Forward collision warnings
  • Lane-departure warnings
  • Last stop
  • Incident Event Report (e.g., sudden deceleration/acceleration, quick stop, hard brake event, etc.)
  • Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) snapshots of truck system sensors reporting data outside normal values
  • GPS-based positional data

Another important piece of evidence a lawyer will recover from the truck driver is their Hour of Service (HOS) logs. HOS logs are where a driver records details about their day including breaks, sleep time, and time driving.

HOS rules were established in 1930 to safely regulate a balance of rest and work for truck drivers. The rules have been modified several times – most recently in 1995 – to reflect the current understanding of fatigue and alertness.

The sooner a commercial truck company is required to preserve and provide evidence, the less chance there is for that evidence to be lost, destroyed, or tampered with. For instance, if a truck driver has enough time to obtain a new driver log, they might recreate a year’s worth of entries in an attempt to cover up the truth and evade responsibility.

You need access to accident reconstruction specialists

A lawyer will work with accident reconstruction professionals who use engineering and physics to examine wreckage and other evidence. You need an accident reconstruction professional on your case as soon as possible. Some aspects of an accident scene might change and make it harder for you to prove your case.

For example, if you ran a stop sign obscured by a bush, the city gardener might come out next week and trim it, along with the rest of the street, as part of their regular job duties. Your evidence is gone if that happens. You can probably get verification from the city that a worker trimmed the bush, but without visual evidence, it will be hard to prove how much of the stop sign was covered.

Investigating a truck accident is time-consuming

Extensive resources are required for investigating a truck accident, so it’s best to call a lawyer as quickly as possible. Get a head start on the investigation so nobody has to scramble at the last minute. To get maximum compensation, you need a lawyer on your side.

Texas is the only state with more asphalt miles than California. Even so, major highways in California are crowded with drivers (and lousy drivers, at that). And the dangers loom especially large for those of us who choose to hit the road without the roll cage of a car or SUV blocking our views of California’s natural and man-made wonders. While no motorcyclists would trade the experience for a bland ride in a car, there’s no denying that riding is more dangerous than driving. That’s why every motorcyclist needs to know how to be as safe as possible, as well as how to respond to accidents and injuries.

Staying safe out there

Hopefully, you’re already familiar with the best practices that will keep you as safe as possible on your bike. But it never hurts to go back over them.

Know (and stay within) your limits. You need to be aware of your skill as a rider, and you need to be careful about not pushing yourself or your bike too hard. Discretion is key when you’re on a motorcycle, and even experienced riders should be wary about riding in the rain.

All riders should practice defensive riding. Never assume that you know what a driver or fellow rider will do. You don’t (especially not in California). You can’t control what other people do, but you can be extra careful to be safe out there. Know the law on things like lane-splitting (it’s legal in California, but you have to be careful), and follow them.

Finally, you should always be geared up head to toe. A thick leather motorcycle jacket and a reliable helmet can be the difference between life and death in an accident.

What to do if you’re hurt in a motorcycle accident

If you’re careful and follow the familiar advice that we laid out above, you’ll minimize your risk of getting into a motorcycle accident. But you won’t eliminate it, because that’s impossible. Like it or not, we can’t control everything about every situation we encounter while we’re riding. Someone else’s negligence could cost us dearly.

If you are involved in a motorcycle accident, first determine whether you’re all right. Unfortunately, many motorcycle accidents involve injuries; if yours did, call for help immediately. Time is of the essence, and nothing is more important than getting the treatment that you need. Call the police, too, because California law requires this for serious accidents.

This doesn’t mean that you need to go broke paying for health care. Medical treatment is expensive in California and all across our country, and it’s also true that you may find your income reduced if you are not able to work as you could before your accident. Fortunately, under California law, you are not out of options.

The tort laws of California allow you to seek compensation through a personal injury case. Depending on the details of your situation, explains an expert motorcycle accident lawyer in Orange County, your attorney might be able to prove that your injury was the result of another party’s negligence. You would be entitled to compensation for your injuries and the expenses associated with them.

You have to take action to make this happen, though. You need to act fast and seek out a local attorney who specializes in motorcycle accidents. Arrive at your initial consultation with any documentation that you have, including medical bills and police reports, and explain your situation. Hopefully, you’ll find that your decision to turn to a lawyer makes all the difference in your future.

Leasing a Car

Leasing is becoming an increasingly popular way of getting on the road. Industry figures show that the number of us choosing to lease rather than buy is going up by 10% each year, but what exactly is leasing all about? How does it work, and is it better than buying?

How Leasing Works

The easiest way to think about leasing is as a long term car rental. If you’ve ever rented a car when you’re on holiday overseas you’ll know how this works. You agree a daily or weekly rate with the rental company then all you need to do is pay for your fuel. If your rental car breaks down or needs new tyres, those costs are covered by the hire company. If you are involved in an accident, then that’s covered by your insurance. Lease agreements are just the same, although the hire period is generally two or three years rather than just a couple of weeks. Car leasing is also sometimes called Personal Contract Hire, or PCH.

What the Lease Covers

When you choose to lease a car, most of the motoring costs are rolled into the monthly fee you pay to the lease company. This includes servicing, repairs, car tax, insurance – everything apart from fuel. You will have to abide by certain conditions though, mainly stemming from the fact that you never actually own the company. It remains the property of the lease company at all times. So you’ll need to get their permission to add a roof rack or tow bar, for example. If you need new tyres or a repair, then you have to take your car to the garage of the lease company’s choosing. The lease company will also set restrictions on who can drive your car. There will be extra charges for additional drivers, and it’s a common restriction to ban all drivers under the age of 25. Drivers have to pay for the fuel they use in their car and the lease company might also charge for any damage which has been caused to the car through negligence.

Advantages of Leasing

Leasing a car has a number of advantages. The first is the simplicity. You commit to paying a set fee every month and apart from adding fuel, that’s it. No need to worry about unexpected repair costs or servicing charges. If you’re the sort of person who likes to budget, this can be a huge advantage. Lease deals are also a good way of getting a new car every two or three years depending on the length of the lease you sign up to. In recent years, many dealers have been extending the lease model into used cars too, especially with premium brands. If you’re a business owner who is weighing up leasing over buying for a company car fleet, leasing often has significant tax advantages, so take advice from your accountant before deciding on the best course of action.

Disadvantages of Leasing

Leasing is a great model for many drivers, but doesn’t work for everyone. Firstly, there’s the cost aspect. If you’re leasing a brand new car which is unlikely to develop major faults and require expensive repairs, it’s often better value to take out a loan from the bank and buy the car. And at the end of the lease, you have an asset to show for it. Many people get into the habit of changing their car every two years, constantly making payments and not having an asset to show for it. You’re also committing to paying the lease payments for the duration of the agreement, so if your circumstances change and you want to leave the deal early, this could be expensive. If you don’t set up the agreement properly, then it could cost you huge sums at the end of the lease.

Setting Up the Lease

There are a few things you have to be very clear about when taking out any new lease agreement. Perhaps the most critical thing is the mileage. As leases are based on the estimated value at the end of the lease period, you have to estimate how many miles the car will have done by the time you hand it back. If you underestimate, you will pay any extra miles at a set fee. If you get the mileage very wrong, you can end up with a bill for hundreds of pounds at the end of the lease. And unfortunately, it doesn’t work the other way around – you won’t receive a fat cheque if you’ve underestimated the mileage instead.

You should also be clear about the tax and MOT situation. All vehicle owners have to pay car tax, and in most cases this is taken care of by the leasing company. However, as the driver it’s you who will get the points on your licence if you’re driving around in an untaxed car. You can check online to make sure the lease company are doing their job by paying the car tax when it is due. All you need to do this is the car’s registration number. If you discover any problem, raise this with them straight away. Similarly, if you’re leasing an older car it might require an annual MOT. The lease company should keep on top of when tests are due and liaise with you over getting the car booked in, but you can also check online to see when the current MOT expires.

Remember also that not all costs for damage are covered by the lease company. If you let the kids spill food or drink all over the upholstery or repeatedly scratch the bodywork getting in and out of parking spaces, then this is unlikely to be classed as reasonable wear and tear. An inspector will look over the car at the end of the lease, and you’ll be sent an invoice for each ding or scratch on the car. If you’re a careless driver, this could again result in a hefty bill.
