Windows Desktop Application (BumpTop) – Make your desktop alive

What if the desktop on your computer was just like the real world desk? That’s the notion behind the software called BumpTop created by Anand Agarawala, which takes your flat, two-dimensional desktop into a nice looking graphical overlay for Windows-based operating systems.

I’m using this software from the last week and wouldn’t bother to say that I’m loving it as this is a fresh way to interact with my computer desktop. For your knowledge, I am using Vista premium in which I can pile and toss documents like I’ll do on my real desk with elegant and self revealing gestures. BumpTop also comes for Windows XP and even comes with great Multi-Touch support in Windows 7.

Amazing Features of BumpTop

I could describe BumpTop in much detail but would suggest you to take a look at the video to experience its awesome features in real action.

Proper Desktop Organization

Innovative design, free-form method of selecting items on the desktop, pin-up reminders , sticky notes,  the ability to flip through piles of files and its highly intuitive pie menu system, which you invoke to sort files on the desktop or to create new piles are among some of the most interesting features of the BumpTop.

You can also toss docs onto the printer to print them, into the recycle bin to delete or onto a pile to add them. The coolest function which I like, you can directly toss icons to copy then in a USB drive when you plug it. You can also grow or shrink icons, search for a particular keyword among your desktop items.

Social Networking on your desktop

Now you surely gonna love this feature. Why? Because you need only to drag and drop a picture onto the Twitter or Facebook icons on your desktop, and they will be uploaded to Twitpic and/or your Facebook photo account. You can also place a picture frame on your desktop that automatically changes through your latest photos from Flickr, Picasa & other Photo RSS feeds.

Graphic User Interface

BumpTop had a gaming grade physics engine that helps you to grab, pile, toss, sort your icons  and watch them respond lively on your desktop. I can bet you surely love the 3D visuals and stunning effects.

Do you have a touchscreen or tablet computer? Because BumpTop supports multi-touch for Windows 7 and you can move your fingures to toss, piles, zoom–in or zoom out the images.

Make up your desktop with user created themes or create your own and share it with the world.

So, have you tried it till now … if not, go directly to to its website and download it right away. I can bet you will enjoy every bit of it. The engineering & effort put behind has paid off and soon a MAC version is also coming out. Give it a shot and share your views how does it feel to have a entirely different desktop on your PC.

Desktops have never been so much fun for me … I love my BumpTop!!!
