Now a days, Open Source market is growing in a fast pace, Symbian is one of the most popular OS for mobile devices and smartphones. It’s developed by Symbian Ltd which was acquired by Nokia in 2008
and established a new foundation called Symbian foundation.
The Source Code of Symbian OS ( with its associative user interfaces S60,UIQ and MOAP(S) ) is open and free to use. Versions S60, S40 and others are developed under the EPL (Eclips Public Licenses) which are free and Open Sources around the world. Nokia based organization that maintains all power, took a decision to increase their popularity.
Symbian OS is used by Nokia, Samsung, LG, Ericsson, Mitsubishi, Motorola, Panasonic, and other popular companies to make their phones lively and powerful.
Symbian Foundation
Nokia always support Symbian because Nokia is the member of Symbian foundation. Now the news has been come that its free and will compete with the other Open Source like Android which is used by Motorola. According to the news by various sources, Symbian platform holds 47% market share of smartphones while Blackberry was second with 20% and Windows Mobile third with12.4%.
Competitors
The competition is rock solid for Symbian platform as they are competing against the most popular Apple(iPhone) and some other manufactures such as Android.
I think that Symbian is a bit late in the competition here because many of the mobiles manufacturers have drained Symbian and Windows OS over Android.
So let’s see whether the new version of Symbian with its Open Source will rock the manufacturers to be interested in their product or not.

Big news, but ten bucks says it won’t make it to the front page. Americans just don’t get Symbian.
