Twitter – whether you love it or hate it, its gonna stay. It’s inestimable for quite a number of reasons and if you haven’t using it, I should really say you are actually missing out. The speed with which news can be delivered and shared via the social networking site is outstanding. Businesses like Dell and Google have been thriving, too.

But Twitter.com website can only work on its own, this is same with number of Twitter desktop applications like Tweetdeck, Hootsuite, Tweetie, Twhirl. They are powerful with almost every functionality, but it is disappointing when it comes to looks of these applications. But after seeing Seesmic has done with Look, a new Adobe Air-based application released for windows in last month.

I installed Seesmic Look(Adobe Air-based application for windows) 2-3 days before and really I’m in love with its unique user interface. This application is a Twitter client aimed at tech novices with superb design and looks. The UI of Seesmic Look allows for a comfortable touch experience even if it is used for Window’s Tablet PCs. With Seesmic Look unique looks and interface, you may find yourself enthralled with viewing your streams of interests, trends, latest celebrity activities, friend’s tweets and much more.

Cool Features of Seesmic Look

1) Timeline, Alphabetical and Playback Mode

You can view Twitter in a Timeline mode,  Alphabetical mode(as per your contacts name) or Playback mode. There are two themes – light or dark background to choose from.

Timeline mode in Light Background theme

The scroll wheel on my mouse can race through tweets, which are easier to read than in other Twitter interfaces as the latest ones are zoomed into view.

Playback Mode in Dark Background theme

You can watch the stream of messages in Look’s playback mode, which fades in messages in a visually engaging way.

2) Discovering trends

Discovering Trends

By clicking on the “Trends” category on pulls up a list of the most popular twitter topics of the present-time, of the day, or of the week.

3) Finding interests

Finding Interests

That’s quite a good way of catching up on the latest in topics such as news, music, sports, business, humor, politics, tech etc.

3) Channels

Channels

Real time updates on events or news, reviews, product tips, advices, ideas etc. from providers such as Time, Kodak, The Huffington Post etc. Its seems to me that “channels” links are like a revenue opportunity for Seesmic.

4) Real-time search

Searching “Technology” word

You can search any word or phrase  being said on Twitter in real time by just typing in search box on top right hand. After searching you can save that search so that you can always refer back to it. No need for typing your favorite searches again and again.

5) Tweet, Re-tweet, DM, View profile, Manage mentions :

Status Update

View Profile

Re-tweet funtion

As this is a Twitter client so obviously you can view and manage your Mentions, Direct Messages, Sent Messages, view profiles and follow/unfollow directly from Seesmic Look, view friends tweets and re-tweeting them, add to favorites and including creating, editing and managing Twitter lists.

Some missing Features

  • User cannot sign up for the new Twitter account
  • Not supported for Mac OS
  • No configuration Options at all beyond the opportunity of selection of Dark or Light background theme
  • Can’t select which URL shortening service to choose from other that Tinyurl.

Verdict

Beside these shortcomings, Seesmic Look is still an amazing platform for interacting with Twitter in more engaging way with eye-catching looks. Let’s hope its shortcomings get fixed in subsequent revisions.
