Google Turns Evil for Facebook and Twitter with Google Buzz

Yesterday, Google announced Google Buzz at their Mountain View headquarters. It’s a new way to share, communicate within Gmail, “it’s like an entirely new world in Gmail,” the new service will be available using a “Buzz” link directly within Gmail.

“Organizing large scale information has become a real problem. It’s a problem Google loves to solve,” said Bradley Horowitz, Google VP Product. But I think Google Buzz is another step to capture some momentum created by Facebook using real-time communications.

Google Buzz is available to priority Gmail users and to the rest of the world over the next few days but I am still anxious about their priortization because I am using Gmail from the last 4-5 years. Hope I will get my Google Buzz soon.

What Google Buzz is for the user?

Briefly, Google Buzz is a way for a user to accumulate all types of social information (twitter updates, flickr and picasa photos, youtube vidoes, etc.) into one place and easily share this steam with family, friends and whomever we are connected with. This stream of information is called Google Buzz by Google.

Some new features of Google Buzz?

1) Auto Following : When you use Google Buzz for the first time, all the existing contacts will be automatically followed.  Over time as you naturally interact with new people, Google Buzz can automatically bring these new people into your social stream without you having to manually do so.

2) A rich, fast sharing experience : Google Buzz is specially designed to work well with the major pieces of social information – images, videos, comments, “likes”, tweets, and more.  You don’t have to leave Gmail to see photos, videos in some other place. You entire social information will be easy to right within Gmail.

3) Public and private sharing : Shares are indexed by Google search, but you can keep them private. Even Google Buzz makes it easy to create groups and to share your social information accordingly with them.

4) Inbox Integration : Google Buzz goes beyong regular E-mail feature. Now you can use can use ‘@’ replies to resolve to profile names, and deliver Buzz items to other’s inbox.

5) Just the good stuff : As we all know it’s very difficult to filter good piece of information when there are thousands of friends in our social community. Now Google Buzz attempts to take on the challenge of filtering only the “good stuff” in your inbox and everything else hidden away until if you want to find it.

Google Buzz for iPhone and Android

Google also demonstrated a mobile version of Google Buzz which helps users to post content easily. The mobile apps are only available for iPhone and Android at buzz.google.com. Hope it will come for other mobile platforms too in the near future.

Future of Google Buzz

I am not a astrologer who can predict the future and even can’t say that Google Buzz will be a success after seeing the fail attempt of Google Wave. But as far things are going, they really created a buzz in the social market with their latest offering. However, the integration with Gmail does work in Google’s favor, as its e-mail service is immensely popular, especially among those who already use social networking services.

Most of the major social networks like twitter, , flickr, picasa and youtube are immediately integrated in Google Buzz. So only Facebook is noticeably absent from Google Buzz. Now Facebook will think hard about how they will go far with Google Buzz. Will they allow its wall to be incorporated into Google’s new social paradigm, Google Buzz. I think it’s going to be very interesting in the future and might be Google Buzz will be a game changer.
