Google Introduces Drag-Drop Email Attachments And Calendar Integration In Gmail

Google team always try to update their products by adding new and useful features to make the user experience more comfortable. In the same context, few days before Google added “message sneak peak and nested labels”  in Gmail which allows to manage your email by sorting messages into a hierarchy of labels.

This time, Google brings up two simple but useful features in Gmail. First one is, Drag and Drop Email attachments into your Gmail new mails and Calendar Invitations to Gmail messages. Let’s see both features one by one.

1) Drag and Drop Email Attachments : Yesterday, Google announced a new feature into a Gmail for Google Chrome and Firefox 3.6 users, i.e., drag-and-drop file attachments. It a very simple feature but surely very useful when you want to attach files in your E-mail. You just have to drag the files from desktop and drop that file onto your E-mail, a box will appears with heading “drops files here’ where you have to drop you file. Just drop the file and your files are attached now in the mail.

So, don’t you think that is a handy feature to have when you attach large numbers of files? There is one drawback that this feature is only available for Firefox 3.6 and Google Chrome users. But Google promised that they will enable this feature for other browsers as soon as they will support this feature.

2) Calendar Invitations to Gmail messages : Google also enabled a feature that increased the support between Gmail and Google Calendar. It will allow you to create Calendar events from with Gmail. And when you compose a E-mail, there’s an “Insert : Invitation link” which allows you to invite other people to check your event and for that you don’t have to check invitee’s availability by login into Google Calendar.

When you click it, a preview window of the invitation will appear in your E-mail message. When you send the E-mail, the event’s automatically added to your and invitee’s calender.

I think it’s an important and time-saving feature which  also tie together two popular services of Google, i.e., Gmail and Google Calendar.

So, now it’s your turn, what do you think of these two features introduced by Gmail yesterday? Are they gonna change something for you in terms of usability and comfortableness in Gmail? Are they time-saving? Do share your views with us in the comments section below.

cool feature. I have been using Mailplane on my mac for a while for multiple purposes. One of the important reasons was drag and drop attachment feature. If you use MAC and send lots of photos I advice you to use mailplane since in addition to drag and drop it automatically resizes the photos.

PS: I have no connection with mailplane :)
