Blogging is growing day by day, and there are many platforms that allow people to start a blog without spending a penny. If you are passionate about blogging and want to start blogging for no charges, then this post will help you choose from the top free blogging service providers.

I started on Blogspot (now called blogger) and after years of learning and experimenting I started this blog on WordPress. Although my personal choice will always remain WordPress but for blogging enthusiasts the options are many. You can play around with each and in time you will be sure what to use and what you should not.

I regularly update this post, and I have seen some new blogging platforms and even tried those, with all the services put together, I have made this list, so that you can save time in exploring different services.

I hope this article will make people interested in blogging, as well.

12 Best Blog Sites for Free Blogging

1. Blogger

blogger.com - best blog site

Blogger is a blog publishing service that allows private or multi-user blogs with time-stamped entries. It was created by Pyra Labs, which was bought by Google in 2003. Generally, the blogs are hosted by Google at subdomains of blogspot.com. Blogger allows users to publish blogs on other hosts, via ftp. This is my first choice for best blog sites. Here are some of best blogger templates that we have showcased on our site.

2. WordPress

wordpress.com - second best blogging platform

WordPress.com is a weblog hosting provider owned by Automattic which opened to beta testers on August 8, 2005 and opened to the public on November 21, 2005.

It is powered by the open source WordPress software. It is financially supported via paid upgrades, “VIP” services and limited Google Adsense advertising.

This is my second choice as the best blog sites.

  1. Till now I am using Blogger, wordpress, Livejournal and Tumblr. Out of these all platform blogger is most user friendly and most customizable. All other platform takes too much time to crawled by search engine.

      • Weebly take 50% from ur adsense income, and last time when i was therewas no auto content option like sidebars from blogs. Blogger best cuz is 100 % free and u can run ads. So cuz of that is better then wp.com.

        • Thanks for your comments. It’s good to know that Blogger allowing ads. I was just trying to decide which free host that I should go about after quitting paid host Lunarpages for a couple of years.

Just curious how I can upload my files to the server after setting up my blog? Do I use FTP to transfer files? Perhaps, there is a instruction page or something. Thanks.

    • Do you still feel that word press is still the best blogger for you. Also I want to post images but I want to keep it private for my family only is there a free site out there?

      • Blogger.com – u get 15 GB free hosting, u can run any ads and u get 100% money from them, its more safe like any other wp.org cuz servers are owned by google (and no they dont delet ur blog… only if u are a bad kitten), u can go offline 3 years from internet and when ur back ur blog is there, use custom theme and any other things that wp have… related posts, share options, descriptions for posts, … Some say… WOW wp is good for SEO vs Blogger… wrong… SEO is about rank… big rank kill fast and easy good seo wp platform. And visitors is not all about google search is also about social sites and social have no connection with SEO, free to use cutom domain

wp.com – they run ads in ur blog in a aggresive way this days, u can apply for their ads system (called wordads) but this system pay X more times less vs adsense, only 3 GB storage, u cant use custom themes or other things, to use custom domain u must pay for maping, if u move ur blog from wp.com to wp.org self hosted u must pay for old url redirect

Blogger is the best free blog platform whereu can also make money and do things in a pro way not like tumblr.

WordPress.com is a jerk, they dont respect you, they run ads (aggressive this days) and they make money but you cant do it cuz ur a fool and a slave for them. Look behind the wp happy face just like u do it with facebook… things are dark behind and is about the money, more and more money. U dont need categories from wp if u use label in a right way

  2. I’ve tried the blogger and the end was not how to handle it. I moved to wordpress recently and is a wonder to handle. But I have very castrated and have to pay if you want to work with css or other things. However if you have a domain with php, if you can download the wordpress and install it on your domain server. And here you have many more capabilities and a lot of issues better facts.

  3. I would have to say that WordPress is about the easiest to setup and host. After it’s setup you have so many options to change the look and feel and with so many add-ons you can hardly go wrong. Plus, if you host with HostGator or many others for that matter you can have it setup in basically 1 click. I give WordPress my thumbs up!

  4. I have installed wordpress on my site and love it to bits. Easy to use and has wonderful themes. Lots of paid and even more free. Check it out.

    waiting for new tips

  21. Blog.com has been my favorite for years after easyjournal closed down unexpectedly and I lost 5 years of blogs without warning. Now Blog.com has become increasingly unreliable in recent months. At times the website will be unaccessable, or give a lot of errors when trying to post your entry. Now the website has been unaccessable for over a week and I can’t even go in and retrieve my blogs for peace of mind in case this website dumps like easyjournal did. Be careful with this one!

  22. Information are great, i am exited to know this and contents are intresting .Thanks and keep blogging.

  23. Blogger and WordPress are still the best when it comes to setting up any blog. They should be the first ports of call for everyone.

The WORST blogsite that I’ve encountered so far is thoughts.com. Theirs is more the annoying hippy commune of blogsites that’s so heavily moderated that anything which they don’t agree with is dealt with in a draconian fashion. Entire blogs are known to be removed without warning due to the most minor of infractions, such as linking to other websites, or saying something that might upset one or two users. Considering they’re called “thoughts” they still fail to grasp the irony.

So, if you want to speak your mind in a blog (and that’s what blogs are for) avoid such double standards blogsites as that.

    • Hi,

As far as I know, WordPress doesn’t allow its users to display ads on their blogs. You can, however, if you opt for upgrading to premium domain, instead of using yourblog.wordpress.com.

This is why Blogger by Google is more preferable among those who wish to monetize their blogs. The only drawback is that it’s rather harder to customize the blog’s design.

      Hope it answers your question.
