7 tips to make your Gtalk experience more interesting

In our previous post, we explain the trick to solve the problem with facebook status updates when you have 250+ friends. Today, I am trying to compile some Gtalk tips that lets you make most out of your Gtalk

Why I am posting this article ?

I love Gtalk because its very light, fast and low CPU memory usage.


7 tips to make your Gtalk experience more interesting

1) Want to run two or more Google accounts

If you want to run two or more Google accounts and want to use both at the same time. I believe this is the best trick for you.
Right click on Google talk shortcut and select properties, now change the target field to:

On the Target field, add in the /nomutex to the end of the line so that it looks like below.

“c:\program files\google\google talk\googletalk.exe” /nomutex

Now you can open as many Google account by clicking on Gtalk Desktop Icon.

2) Want some cool themes for your Gtalk

I know you are bored while using same white Gtalk from last 5 years but now you can revamp your Gtalk applications with custom made themes or downloadable themes. You can download Gtalk themes from http://gtalk.anthonysottile.com/ or http://gtheme.sravi.com/

3) Want to use Gtalk  application on your mobile

All of us want to stay connected with our friends on the go and now you can use Gtalk in your mobile phone. The Official Google Software for chatting with your friends works with only iPhone and Android. If you are not using Android or iPhone, you can use Gtalk by downloading J2me client from http://www.gotalkmobile.com/gotalkmobile_supported_phones.html

4) Want to use Gtalk without installing and downloading

Now you can use Gtalk without even downloading and installing it. Just click this link http://talkgadget.google.com/talkgadget/popout and enjoy all the features of Gtalk in your browser. This is very useful for the ones who do not have access of Gtalk at the workplace.

5) Want to show idle statues and be active at the same time

Sometimes, we have to chat with the unwanted friends even we don’t want to but has to to maintain the relationship. The best way to keep unwanted friends away is to be invisible or keeping the Gtalk status idle. As we all know, Gtalk has no provision of invisible status. But now, you can cheat Gtalk by forcibly sets your status to idle by downloading gAlwaysIdle

6) Want to save time by using keyboard shortcuts

We all know that keyboard shortcuts is the great way to increase our productivity. You can save lots of your time by just pressing few buttons on the keyboard. Here are some keyboard shortcuts you can use while chatting through Gtalk.

• Ctrl + E – It centralizes the selected text, or the current line.
• Ctrl + R – It justifies to the right the selected text, or the current line.
• Ctrl + L – It justifies to the left the selected text, or the current line.
• Ctrl + I – The same thing does that Tab.
• Tab – It is giving the area to each of the windows opened by Google Talk.
• Ctrl + Tab – The same thing does that Shift + Tab .
• Shift + Tab – The same thing does that Tab but in reverse.
• Ctrl + Shift + L -Switch between points, numbers, letters, capital letters, roman numbers and capital roman numbers
• Ctrl + 1 (KeyPad) – It does a simple space between the lines.
• Ctrl + 2 (KeyPad) – It does a double space between the lines.
• Ctrl + 5 (KeyPad) – A space does 1.5 between the lines.
• Ctrl + 1 (NumPad) – It goes at the end of the last line.
• Ctrl + 7 (NumPad) – It goes at the begin of the last line.
• Ctrl + F4 – It closes the current window.
• Alt + F4 – It closes the current window.
• Alt + Esc – It Minimize all the windows.
• Windows + ESC – Open Google Talk (if it’s minimized, or in the tray)
• F9 – Open Gmail to send an email to the current contact.
• F11 – It initiates a telephonic call with your friend.
• F12 – It cancels a telephonic call.
• Esc – It closes the current window.

7) Want to format text while chatting

You know that there is no visible buttons present in the Gtalk for format text but still you can do basic formatting in Gtalk like making the text bold, italic and underline. To make the text bold, just enclose it within *asterisks* and to make it italic, just enclose it within _underscores_.

Do you know that you can send 32767 characters long message from your Gtalk.
