10 Best Blog Sites To Create your Blog For Free

To start your blogging journey you need the best platform that can help you grow your site, here are ten best blog sites that you will need.

Blogging is growing day by day, and there are many platforms that allow people to start a blog without spending a penny. If you are passionate about blogging and want to start blogging for no charges, then this post will help you choose from the top free blogging service providers.

I started on Blogspot (now called blogger) and after years of learning and experimenting I started this blog on WordPress. Although my personal choice will always remain WordPress but for blogging enthusiasts the options are many. You can play around with each and in time you will be sure what to use and what you should not.

I regularly update this post, and I have seen some new blogging platforms and even tried those, with all the services put together, I have made this list, so that you can save time in exploring different services.

I hope this article will make people interested in blogging, as well.

10 Best Blog Sites

1. Blogger - Blogger is a blog publishing service that allows private or multi-user blogs with time-stamped entries. It was created by Pyra Labs, which was bought by Google in 2003. Generally, the blogs are hosted by Google at subdomains of blogspot.com. Blogger allows users to publish blogs on other hosts, via ftp. This is my first choice for best blog sites.

blogger.com - best blog site

2. WordPressWordPress.com is a weblog hosting provider owned by Automattic which opened to beta testers on August 8, 2005 and opened to the public on November 21, 2005. It is powered by the open source WordPress software. It is financially supported via paid upgrades, “VIP” services and limited Google Adsense advertising. This is my second choice as the best blog sites

wordpress.com - second best blogging platform

3. Tumblr - Tumblr is a microblogging platform that allows users to post text, images, videos, links, quotes and audio to their tumblelog, a short-form blog. Users can follow other users, or choose to make their tumblelog private. The service emphasizes ease of use.

tumblr - blogging platform

4. Medium - Medium Founded by Twitter startup guy Ev Williams & Biz Stone, this blogging platform has an extra feature to annotate work of other people, this makes this new blogging platform quite unique. Just log in from Twitter authentication system and you are ready to comment and blog. If you are new to blogging and looking out for readers, then you might want to try medium, as it has a large audience attached to it.

medium.com - blogging platform from twitter founders

5. Livejournal - LiveJournal (LJ) is a virtual community where Internet users can keep a blog, journal or diary. LiveJournal is also the name of the free and open source server software that was designed to run the LiveJournal virtual community. LiveJournal’s blogging features include those found in similar blogging sites (multiple authors, commenting, calendars, and polls). However, LiveJournal differentiates itself from other blogging sites by its WELL-like features of a self-contained community and some social networking features similar to other social networking sites.

livejournal.com - blogging platform

6. QuoraQuora is a question answer guide, where people like you and me ask question about any topic, and you will answered by the community. Its much like Yahoo and StackOverflow, but they have added blog functionality which is really great.

7. Weebly -  Weebly started in 2006 has been providing very extensive well managed solutions for newbie’s. To create a blog website in Weebly you can simply log on with your FaceBook account as well. With 100′s of professional designed templates and superb website building experience, we have kept this great site in our list.

8. Edublogs - The World’s most popular education blogging service… Edublogs lets you easily create & manage student & teacher blogs, quickly customize designs and include videos, photos & podcasts – it’s safe, easy and secure.

9. Blog - Blog.com provides a fully-featured publishing platform for free. Blog by yourself or establish a writing community, all under an address that looks like: you.blog.com. It also offers free blog hosting with unlimited bandwidth for their free package, more benefits for paid members.

10. Blogsome It’s easy, choose any kind of WordPress theme, upload photos, personalize your design and start blogging right now. You can also browse samples of the latest posts and blogs. The blogsome.com also offers forums where you can search for any type of answers, read important documentation in relation of the service and terms of use, and you must ask really smart questions so to become part of this community. What the blogsome website intends is to offer a clean service, so when users are found to be using stolen content from other websites as a means of generating traffic, they immediately remove this blogs and cease service.

Another noteworthy service which has been getting lots of attention lately is Ghost.org, i haven’t tested it but in seems to please a lot of people in blogging community. 14th of October, 2013 – Ghost 0.3 Kerouac was released to the world. It surely is noteworthy and we will rank it accordingly in upcoming months.

Yahoo Pulse – now closed

Yahoo! 360° was a social networking and personal communication portal operated by Yahoo! made available in 2005. It enabled users to create personal web sites, share photos from Yahoo! Photos, maintain blogs and lists, create and share a public profile and see which friends are currently online. 360° also featured a ‘friends updates’ section, under which each friend’s latest update was summarized (e.g. blog posts, updated lists or newly shared photos).

I am sure their are many more platforms which can be in his list but for now I have chosen these over some others. Let us know if you have a replacement or better blog creating service that you have used.

Weebly take 50% from ur adsense income, and last time when i was therewas no auto content option like sidebars from blogs. Blogger best cuz is 100 % free and u can run ads. So cuz of that is better then wp.com.

        • Sky says:

Thanks for your comments. It’s good to know that Blogger allowing ads. I was just trying to decide which free host that I should go about after quitting paid host Lunarpages for a couple of years.

Just curious how I can upload my files to the server after setting up my blog? Do I use FTP to transfer files? Perhaps, there is a instruction page or something. Thanks.

I’ve tried the blogger and the end was not how to handle it. I moved to wordpress recently and is a wonder to handle. But I have very castrated and have to pay if you want to work with css or other things. However if you have a domain with php, if you can download the wordpress and install it on your domain server. And here you have many more capabilities and a lot of issues better facts.

  8. Jessica says:

I would have to say that WordPress is about the easiest to setup and host. After it’s setup you have so many options to change the look and feel and with so many add-ons you can hardly go wrong. Plus, if you host with HostGator or many others for that matter you can have it setup in basically 1 click. I give WordPress my thumbs up!

Blogger is best, than WordPress,,,,,, others is so so……. As i think

  40. Trixie says:

Blog.com has been my favorite for years after easyjournal closed down unexpectedly and I lost 5 years of blogs without warning. Now Blog.com has become increasingly unreliable in recent months. At times the website will be unaccessable, or give a lot of errors when trying to post your entry. Now the website has been unaccessable for over a week and I can’t even go in and retrieve my blogs for peace of mind in case this website dumps like easyjournal did. Be careful with this one!

Thanks for the great post which really helpful.

  45. Sabrina says:

I prefer Blogger & tumblr. They’re very user friendly in my opinion

  46. Richard says:

Blogger and WordPress are still the best when it comes to setting up any blog. They should be the first ports of call for everyone.

The WORST blogsite that I’ve encountered so far is thoughts.com. Theirs is more the annoying hippy commune of blogsites that’s so heavily moderated that anything which they don’t agree with is dealt with in a draconian fashion. Entire blogs are known to be removed without warning due to the most minor of infractions, such as linking to other websites, or saying something that might upset one or two users. Considering they’re called “thoughts” they still fail to grasp the irony.

So, if you want to speak your mind in a blog (and that’s what blogs are for) avoid such double standards blogsites as that.

  47. Bianca says:

I use wordpress as blogger seems to easy.
I am now testing all of these but so far I only like WordPress.

  48. Sky says:

Does it mean that WordPress.com doesn’t allow blogs to have their own ads for free? This sign up page says no free ads. Thanks.

    https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/

    • Setiawan says:

      Hi,

As far as I know, WordPress doesn’t allow its users to display ads on their blogs. You can, however, if you opt for upgrading to premium domain, instead of using yourblog.wordpress.com.

This is why Blogger by Google is more preferable among those who wish to monetize their blogs. The only drawback is that it’s rather harder to customize the blog’s design.

      Hope it answers your question.

  49. JenMcG says:

Thanks for the post….helped me choose a new blog site! :)

  50. I use blogspot …can we earn through adsense using blogspot or should we use any other.

  51. PaulJoe says:

Weebly is very good web 2.0 site.

  52. Klikkutak says:

TypePad is not free blogging platform. They have three options of payed membership. They offer 14 days free trial but they actually not have no free membership.

  53. Naeem says:

I guess blogger is the best as you can monetize your content and you don’t pay a dime for Domain or hosting there.

  54. Nikhil Bille says:

I am doing blogging since last two years but I preferred Google Blogger platform because we will get free hosting and you customize your blog template if you have knowledge of computer languages like html, css etc..

Now I want to start blogging with wordpress. Can you suggest any hosting who handle 100k traffic.

  55. jazz kohli says:

I have installed wordpress on my site. And Tumblr is by far my favorite..! Thanks for the great post which really helpful.

  62. Renjiv says:

Good Collection Jaspal..I’m looking forward to ‘Ghost’ now..though they are yet to open there hosted platform.

  63. Gil says:

Hey it would be great if this list could also include our new service – notelr.com – which let’s users create a free blog, plus (if they’d like) it has widgets which let them earn money from it by showcasing services and products that they would write about in their posts anyway… The interface is the easiest way to start a blog in seconds! Plus its completely free!

  64. sara says:

for now i use blogger for free blogging , before i worked with wordpress and didn’t really like it with free hosting . google product is more better for seo

  65. Harry D. says:

My experience with blog.com has been disastrous. Yes, it seemingly offers a lot. Yes, the templates are cool. Yes, the ease of use is tempting. BUT, The site is CONSTANTLY DOWN. There is no way to contact them via message, email, or even phone. There is no explanation for the outages and my blog (and many others) has lost the ability to even sign in! Their own blog and twitter accounts have had zero activity for six months. Is there anyone home? STAY AWAY from blog.com I can’t even get to my site to migrate it elsewhere…

    • Trixie says:

I feel your frustration. I posted about blog.com’s problems months ago. I’ve been trying to access my blog for over a week. As soon as it’s up again, I’m taking all of my stuff and I’m going somewhere else to another site that I can rely on.

      • Harry says:

We moved our blog over the weekend. I was pretty easy to move it to a worpress.com site. Not as many free features compared to blog.com, but I’ll take a site that is actually up and accessible over the disaster that is blog.com any day. Good luck…

  66. Martinwogue says:

WordPress and Tumblr are best platform for fast crawling and indexing for your blog in Google. I have made two blog with this platform which both have a great experienced for me. Thanks for informative information.
