  1. Yogesh, Definitely security essentials and visual studio. 2 things that MS does right, and very well. Recent reports even has security essentials beating most pay services for anti-malware protection, which is finally something they can be proud of.

  2. Yogesh,
Nice roundup. I LOVE Live Writer. This is the best desktop blogging tool in the world. I have tried just about every free and paid app on Windows and Mac and Live Writer kills all of them.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  3. I have been using Live Writer and must say that it is a great tool for bloggers.

I didn’t know about Microsoft Research WorldWide Telescope but it looks amazing. Now I can fulfill my childhood fascination in astrology..

  4. Add Windows Live Sync Beta to your list. Though in beta, it is going to rock. The entire MS Live pack is superb!

  5. Why didn’t you include the free TrueSpace 3D package. It’s a complete 3D renderer and game development system and modeling that was originally competitive with 3D Studio and Maya??

It’s in my top three of MSFT freebies..

  6. SQL Server Express: http://www.microsoft.com/express/database/

While restricted to 10GB per database, and lacking a few enterprise-level features such as compression, this is the same database engine used by very large enterprise customers and even governments. Includes features such as great spatial data support, full-text search, etc.

And, yes, the Express version is completely free!

    • All of the products listed here ARE free, though. That’s what makes them all the more impressive, especially how many people like to call them M$ …

  7. ive been using ca malware protection for years but the free windows antivirus on windows 7 is really good. may have to switch permantly… gooooo Billy Gates
